Tom's fob programming kit works perfectly

I had a spare fob i'd order from Amazon for a couple years, foolishly thinking that I could get one dealer or another to spend ~4 minutes programming it for me as a favor. Wrong. Of course they won't when they can charge you $400 for a fob that costs about $2.19 to produce. Tom's key programming service worked exactly as described. They've created their own software package to handle the programming, so they ship out a cheap cell phone along with the ODB2 programming interface & cable. It worked flawlessly, just as they said it would. The kit shipped fast and came with a return label. Seeing how well the kit worked almost made me want to forego my $100 deposit and just become a rogue Toyota fob programmer. I'll definitely use Tom's again and recommend them to friends.

This does seem to be a great way of doing your own spare key, but if you live outside the USA in the UK, it's no good.
You need to have American or Canadian phone number which is a shame, hopefully in time they will be able to include people outside the USA.

Product did not work what so ever

Product did not work what so ever, all they wanted to do was keep replacing parts and wasting my time, after already going back and forth with them for a month. My car is in perfect working condition and my current key fob works perfectly fine, it's just falling a part and needed a replacement. The fobs do not "blink back" any code that your enter, this entire thing has been a nightmare experience, wasted countless hours trying to program this bunk product.

Hello Jimmy,

We’re truly sorry that your Simple Key Programming Kit did not work for your vehicle, even after we attempted a replacement fob. With DIY programming, there are occasions when a vehicle simply will not respond to the process despite being in good working condition, and we understand how frustrating that can be.

We do stand behind our money-back guarantee, and we are committed to making things right whenever a product cannot be successfully programmed. If you decide to consider our solution again in the future, we would be happy to offer you a discount for the inconvenience you experienced.

Thank you for sharing your feedback, and please let us know if there is anything else we can assist with at this point.

I have not programmed it yet because I want my wife to be able to, but they got me this key cut and the remote within a week and I am going to have it in time for Christmas. It’s here right now. It looks beautiful. I matched it to the other key and it’s exact. If you ever need a key fob, these are the guys to go to.

No Tech Suppoprt, No CUstomer Support..Buyer Beware

You get the mnadatory minimum 1 star. Key cut OK, had problems programming. YouTube content is out of date & not helpful. They claim Tech Suppport available M-F 7a to 5p CST..their voice mail is, but 3d party who doesn't call back. Connected on 6th call. They said key is wrong, call Tom's. Tom's says call tech support. Their "Customer Service" (they don't know the definition) syas call tech support, they are overseas call center folks, not knowledge of product, nor anything deeper. Might be cheaper, but my time is worth money also I wasted my time..I used Tom's twice, FIRST & LAST time.
1/10/26. Your reply is typical boiler plate bs..I tried calling & emailing Tom's directly detailing the problem. Their foreign based "customer service" invited it was their 3d party tech support whom I must call. This 3d party "Pair My Key" doesn't answer & doesn't respond to voice mail. It's a money grab. You get less than you pay for.

4th rate run in someone's basement money grab...laughable to believe I'd get better service next time. Only a fool falls for same scam more than once.

Also, Tom was able to create replacement keys despite my car having Lojack. The local hardware store said Lojack would prevent them from cloning my keys.

Worked

End result: a new working key without paying the dealer price. Yay! Car: 2012 Subaru WRX. Dealer price: $550

The only hitches in the process were:

1) no instructions for the photos of the existing keys. Why three photos?

2) When programming the new keys, the Key Genius app didn't make it clear that you must also program the existing keys at the same time or they'll stop working. This caused drama and excitement.

Had a great experience

Had a great experience. I had a small problem during the programming phase that Support helped me with. The video and the app did not specify which key (new vs original) to insert midway through the process, Support helped by specifying to insert the original/working first, and later to insert the new key. All went perfectly after that, Very thankful for Tom's Key Co.

Not having a good experience

Not having a good experience. I lost my one and only operating key fob. I emailed the company to make sure they were able to create a key for me and I was told that they could do so without any pictures of the key and just proof of registration. I specified over three times that I did not have a working key currently and I cannot take a picture of a key because of that. I submitted three pictures of proof of registration as advised to complete the picture requirements. Now, after I have already made my order, they are telling me processing cannot move forward until they have pictures of the key that I have consistently stated I don’t have. $58 for wasted time and for my vehicle to sit idle while I have to push important things back further and further because this company does not operate efficiently. I am hoping I end up speaking to someone in customer service who knows what they are talking about & this order is processed sooner rather than later. Process wise I would not be returning myself or recommending any friends of family a local locksmith may have costed more but I’d pay for convenience and clarity gladly.

Hello Kaylin,

We’re truly sorry for the frustration and inconvenience this situation has caused you, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your experience.

To clarify, the initial guidance you received came from our AI assistant. While it correctly stated that vehicle registration is required for verification, it unfortunately did not distinguish that our Key-By-Photo service specifically requires a photo of an existing working key, something you clearly and repeatedly stated you no longer had. We fully recognize that this created confusion and unnecessary delay, and we sincerely apologize.

When your case reached our human support team, we should have recognized immediately that the AI had provided incorrect information and that your earlier messages were sent from a different email address than the one used for the order. That oversight is on us, and we are taking this as a learning opportunity to improve our internal processes and AI accuracy.

As a small, family-owned business, we genuinely strive to provide honest, affordable DIY solutions, and it was never our intention to mislead or cause inconvenience. Once we realized the error, we moved quickly to cancel and refund your order in full under our money-back guarantee, as continuing the process would not have resulted in a usable key for you.

We fully respect your feedback and understand your decision not to return as a customer. In your situation, having lost your only working key, the best and most reliable option is indeed your dealership or a local locksmith who can originate a key without an existing reference.

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention. We are truly sorry for the disruption this caused in your schedule, and if there is anything further you need from us at this point, please don’t hesitate to let us know. Thank you!
