After 1 month all of the paint behind the grill peeled off to reveal rust. Traeger customer service was horrible. My local ace (where I bought it) worked to get me a new one 1 week later. The new one... See more

True rating should be -1 to -2 stars
True rating should be -1 to -2 stars. Worst customer service experience ever. They sold me a defective grill that had problems from day 1. Rather than own up to the problem, they kept telling me to watch videos and read instructions. Then I was told they didnt have a service rep in my area. Not sure whether customer service is instructed to lie or they are completely incompetent. When I found a service tech, they informed me I would have to pay for it because the service tech was not an "authorized" service tech. In sum, Traeger sold me an utter piece of crap for over $1000 and made it entirely my problem when the grill did not work.
Doesn’t hold up
I’ve had this grill for eight years. There’s a reason why warranties are short and commit to binding arbitration. It worked ok for the first few years. Since then I’ve replaced the hot rod and temperature sensor. It won’t reliably maintain any temperature below 300 degrees which makes smoking any length of time impossible. It’s out of production so I doubt a replacement controller is even available, but I refuse to pay the hundreds it would cost. It’s ELECTRONIC! Why would it fail?
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!! The grill won’t heat up and when I called customer service Omar hung up on me, because apparently you have to connect your grill to WiFi for it to work!! I was having issues understanding how to connect and I guess he got frustrated! I am beyond frustrated, after paying all this money I had to put my ribs in the damn oven!!!!!
Warranty doesn’t cover rust
I was told the warranty covers even personal damage, yet it rusted within 2 years even though I bought the cover and kept it covered, they did not stand by the warranty, better off buying an off brand from Home Depot for less than half the price
Can't control temperature
Like many people who left reviews here I could not get my traeger grill to maintain a constant temperature. The last time I used it, I set the temperature at 225 and 20 minutes later the temperature was 375. The customer service guy was helpful but his solution was going to be him sending me parts to fix it myself and not to have it out in the sun. This grill is ONE MONTH OLD. It's being returned.
I wish I read the reviews before I…
I wish I read the reviews before I bought the grill the worst customer service that I ever dealt i mean for real it can't get any worse if I could I wouldn't give it any stars. I wonder what's up with whoever is running this company is he/she/them are even looking at the customers feedback and try and change something because this is a big let down.
Don’t ever order from Traeger directly - and pray you don’t need their customer service
Honestly, the grill I got, a Woodbridge Pro works great, except for their wireless meat probe, which sucked. But the reason for such a low rating is their customer service… more accurately their customer service system. I ordered the grill directly from Traeger.com, and it showed up 3 weeks late… 2 weeks after they told me it was with fedex for delivery the next day… well after many calls to Traeger, it finally came nearly a month after I ordered it. After my first wireless meat probe that came with the grill failed (after 2 uses), I ordered a new one directly from their website through my Traeger online account (figuring it wasn’t worth the hassle utilizing their warranty due to my prior difficult experiences with their customer service). It never arrived. Even though it still showed up as “processing“ on my traeger online order history, customer service couldn’t find my order number. I had to email them screen shots of the order from my online account with Traeger, and they still couldn’t find it. After more than an hour with the customer service agent that was trying to do their best, they promised me that their supervisors found my order and were expediting it. after another month passed (2 months from when I made the order on 5/31) it had still not arrived. I spent another nearly hour with their customer service on the phone, and they again couldn’t find the order. I asked if I could again email screen shots of my order from their website, and was told there was no way to send him an email (even though I did just that a month prior) and instead he would text me a screen sharing link. The text never came. After a few mins he sent it again, and it still didn’t come. At this point I was livid, explained to the customer service rep “Adrian” that his company’s IT customer service system sucks, and he claimed that is must be my phone because it works with all his other customers. I was livid and demanded to speak with a supervisor. The supervisor “Maryanne (SP)“ said she had no problem finding my order on their “different system” and that because the order was never shipped, they never charged me. I explained that I was charged more than 2 months prior, and that I had already paid my Visa CC for it. She argued with me that they only placed a hold and because it was never delivered, I never actually was charged, wich was not true. I finally gave up, got her name, promised to dispute their charge with Visa and would not only never order anything from Traeger online again, I would write this review everywhere I could find. SO I highly recommend that you never order anything from Traeger direct… if you want a Traeger smoker, but it directly from a store.
Excellent customer service
I can't believe the ratings on here about Traegar. I too had issues with my grill and was ready to put it out for the trash. Called c/s, was on hold for an hour but I knew it when I called. Rep spent 2.5hrs trying to help. My grill was out of warranty by 3 months. They first sent a new auger to fix my issue free of charge. It didn't fix the issue. I called back and spent over an hour with the rep and he determined that the controller was bad. Without an fight the shipped a new controller. They tracked the shipment and called to see if I installed the unit and if it fixed the issue. Happily my answer was yes. Cooked steaks the next night and they were perfect!
BUYER BEWARE: Traeger Timberline XL Disappointment
I don’t usually leave reviews, but after spending over $4,000 on the Traeger Timberline XL, I feel compelled to warn others before making the same mistake.
From the moment we unboxed the grill, it was clear something was wrong. There were noticeable dents on the front lower panel and backside of the smoker—completely unacceptable for a high-end product. This immediately raised questions about Traeger’s quality control.
Then came the real headache: the WiFi connectivity. One of the main reasons we bought this grill was for its smart features. But it won’t pair with the Traeger app, no matter what we try. We contacted our internet provider (confirmed our network is solid) and even reached out to Traeger support—still no resolution. They finally suggested we try downloading a third-party app to force the connection. Really? For a $4k “smart grill,” that’s completely ridiculous.
Just to put it in perspective: our cheaper Masterbuilt smoker connects to WiFi with zero issues. That’s embarrassing for Traeger.
To top it off, the temperature readings are off by about 25°F—the grill runs hotter than the set temp, which throws off cook times and makes precision smoking unreliable. It’s like babysitting an offset smoker… which is exactly what we were trying to avoid by buying a Traeger.
We expected a premium, hassle-free experience. What we got was physical damage, failed technology, and cooking inconsistency—all for a premium price.
If you’re thinking about buying the Timberline XL, think twice. At this point, we regret the purchase. Traeger needs to take accountability for the performance and quality issues on what’s supposed to be their flagship model.
— A very disappointed customer
My 3rd try at Traeger and still horrible service.
this is my 3rd try at Traeger. My first Grill rusted out and Traeger would not replace. the warranty had ended 2 weeks before I called Traeger. They said they don't replace when out of warranty. I brought it back Costco (I bought from them) and they took it back no questions asked.
My 2nd Traeger caught on fire a year about 1 year after bought it. I called Traeger. They wouldn't replace. I called Costco and they said they were happy to take it back.
I bought my 3rd Traeger hoping to have a better experience. The Auger Motor died on my 2nd cooking. They spent more than 3 hours trouble shooting. They sent me a new Auger Motor, but it was too difficult to replace for this non-techie. I had to hire someone to do the work because Traeger doesn't offer on site support. Four weeks ago, the temp would not go over 406 degrees, not hot enough to sear meat or cook a pizza. Traeger told me that is within the acceptable range when I set to 450. Actually their website says + or- 25 degrees. But that's not what Traeger said over the phone. They asked me how I wanted to resolve the problem and I told them I'd like some one to come out to fix, or they send me a new one (still under warranty). They refused to do either. My conclusion: TRAEGER IS A WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME!
I must have got a lemon
I must have got a lemon. This p.o.s can't hold a temp. Im really pissed about this purchase. Never again will I buy a traeger. My green mountain cooked for years no issues it worked so well for so long it burned holes through itself
By far the worst customer service I’ve…
By far the worst customer service I’ve ever had to deal with! There was something wrong with the Traeger Ranger and it shorted out. Went thru an hour of diagnosing with tech support. They agreeed to send out a circuit board and power cord. Was supposed to be ordered that Friday and be at my house in 3 days. I call the following Wednesday because i had not received any confirmation emails on the order. Come to find out the order was never processed. Went thru the same process again (wasting another hour of my time) only for them to say the quickest they could deliver it was 3 days.
Of course I get the parts the day after i leave for a trip that i needed the grill for… specially bought the ranger for camping trips… come home and swap out the parts… what do you know, still doesn’t work. Called tech support and spent another hour and half diagnosing again. They agreed to send the rest of the parts for me to fix. Keep in mind this grill is 450 haven’t even had it a year and they’re wanting me to do all the diagnosing and repair work. I was previously against Traeger but now I’m never coming close to another one of their products! Find a company that stands behind their product and makes it right when their product doesn’t perform as it should…
I got a Target from Costco about 2 1/2…
I got a Target from Costco about 2 1/2 years ago. It has never cooked properly and call after call I get the same thing. They have a 25 degree plus or minus that’s not satisfactory with me.they didn’t ever try to help correct. So I went out and got a camp chef first cook of ribs fanatic. My local hardware store have changed dealer. So Traeger as gone down hill with me!!!!!!!!
Worst customer service
This company by far has the worst customer service of any company I've ever dealt with. From the first day, I purchased my Traeger grill I have had nothing but problems. I purchased the small Traeger and had a horrible time getting the temperature to regulate. The grill gets extremely hot to the point you can not use the handle to open the grill cover. It got so hot it blistered all the paint and this was when temp was set yo 350 degrees. I then spent another $150 to purchase an insulating blanket per customer service advice. The blanket they said fit my grill wasn't designed for the style of handle on my grill so it looked funny after installation. After 5 uses the straps burnt clean through. Customer service says not covered by warranty because insulating blanket should only be used in below 32 degree weather. No where in the instructions was this noted. According to customer service this is on the tag inside the blanket!!!! Im so done with this company there product is junk and even they don't back it. I will never buy another Traeger and this one is going to the dump. You should value your customers more, but sadly that is no longer the American way😏😒
I bought this grill 5 years ago it…
I bought this grill 5 years ago it wouldn't hold the temperature it said it would go to 450 degrees it at the most got 375 on a hot day I call you company they said I need to buy the blanket I payed around $150 for it it got up to around 410 on a hot day it wasn't good for cooking steaks couldn't sear a steak on it it was okay for a Boston butts hard to clean had to take the top off just to clean it out at least with outher grills they had where you could dump out the burner out the bottom sorry to say I gave it to a friend he kept if for a few months and gave it to someone else just to get rid of it he cooked a steak on it a few days after I gave it to him he said it was the worst steak he had ever had I told him it wouldn't sear anything very disappointed with the treager grill it wasn't worth the money I bought another grill at half the price a pittboss and it is a much better grill maybe someday someone will prove me wrong about the new treager grills I have heard they are better for searing meat now haven't been convinced yet hopefully this will make treager do a better job with the newer ones now
These grills are great for 2 years
These grills are great for 2 years, then the feed system starts failing. It's all basic stuff with a blower, motor, auger and glow plug. Last year my pin that hooks the motor to the auger sheared off. Call in took a minute to get through and the call center is somewhere in Columbia. They have no clue what you are saying, just as long as you follow the call sheet. I got my parts for that one. Then the night before Memorial day my grill burned back into the auger during shut down. It went out, but made a clog in my feed system. I started up on Memorial day and the auger stopped. I went through the whole thing like last time. The pin broke and I cleaned out the whole thing. This time the motor would not spin. It has a gear box full of sprockets and the last one that spins the auger failed. I called in and the support wanted me by the grill to explain everything. Since I was at work, they will not help. So took pictures tonight and hopefully they will help me tomorrow to bring my 900 dollar grill back that shouldn't break this easy. Make sure you blow out your blower track ever year to avoid a burn back. We'll hopefully that's it. The blower motor is still good. I think this is the same call center that I had with home warranty under choice. Really not classy and just tell you there is nothing they can do. Amazing, since I love the grill I will play along tomorrow.
Extremely poor quality metal and…
Extremely poor quality metal and hardware. Rusts out with ambient humidity alone. Screws are made of cheap metal and strip out with a manual screwdriver. Fan motor quit after about 50 grill uses. Metal flaking off in first 6 months of occasional usage. Final death blow is the auger seizing due to rust. The Traeger is covered when not in use and regular maintenance performed. I will never buy another Traeger.
Worst POS ever
Worst POS ever. Countless hours spent trying to rectify issues. Second time smoking Traeger died. After nearly 12 hours with customer service, they agreed to send me a new firepot…great. Spent 1k+ on a smoker only to have it die second session. Replaced it and still routinely have issues where it craps out mid-smoke. Absolute trash product!!! I bought this the same time as two other co-workers, and we all had the same issues. They both trashed theirs. Customer service is atrocious! Be forewarned DO NOT BUY A TRAEGER!
negative 10 stars
negative 10 stars! Had the smoker for 3 months and the fan went out. Used it once after that and the heating element died. Traeger refuses to refund money and stores don't take them back, so you have to work on it yourself! All that money paid to have to work on it 2x in less than 6 month and 4 cooks is ridiculous. DON'T buy a Traeger! They sell junk!!
I have been smoking meat for many years…
I have been smoking meat for many years and for big crowds out at camp I have been using my Masterbuilt Thermotemp smoker for almost 5 years now and the results of my meat have been absolutely amazing. I bit the bullet and spent almost $2000.00 on a Ironwood 885. Biggest mistake of my life. This smoker produces very little smoke flavor after a 12 hour smoke. I am going to give Pit Boss Austin a try and go from there. But this Ironwood 885 will be returned to the store where i bought it. I would never recommend buying a Traeger smoker. The cost does not cover the results. They say it's better to smoke on the top shelf but everything i find from there cooking instructions say smoke on Bottom rack for better smoke flavor. The only thing your paying for here is the Traeger name. And very POOR quality smoked meats
