I watched an auction online and was surprised when someone was clearly the winning bidder then had their bid removed and someone in the room with a lower bid won the lot . Since then I have bid myself in this auction and this has happened to me three times . On one occasion the auctioneer was clearly told by a lady off camera that he had made a mistake but he shrugged and then ignored her . I agree that the staff are very helpful and friendly but my advice would be against bidding online .
All the porters and staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming at this auction house.
Terry especially was a fantastic auctioneer. Clear, friendly, engaging, and has fantastic stamina, leading the auction for over 6 hours straight!
Whereas some auctioneers can be quite arrogant and snooty, Terry approached us after the auction and we chatted, which was lovely and personable. I've never seen this happen in London!
We enjoyed the auction thoroughly. We''ll be back to this very well run business to see the new premises!
Initially it was a definite 5/5. Responded to my initial enquiry quickly, assessed the property & contents quickly and sensitively. I had to pay upfront or the clearance (which was fine) Clearance was great & thorough as promised. It However after the clearance it wasn’t the best experience. Was promised pictures of each lot & lot numbers, dates & updates of the auctions. I hadn’t heard anything for over 6 weeks since the clearance despite emailing for updates multiple times with no response. I ended up calling them… and they then sent the information through. Terry then called to apologise but did remind me that the other executor of the estate had promised an “glowing review” All went quiet again. Dealing with a loved one passing is hard & to be fair they did really help alleviate some of the stress. However, once again I had to chase final remittance information (needed for probate of the estate). Finally I got the final statement & proceeds ( after costs) of the clearance, so I can now forward to the solicitors. I just felt that once I’d paid them & after the clearance itself, the high level of customer service stopped. The one thing that stopped a 5* review was communication. Shame really.
Be careful buying from here, lots won did not have a delivery option meaning I had to waste £66 on a courier from shiply as recommended by Unique. The items I received arrived missing item I won in auction. Somebody removed or stole it for themselves and nobody claimed responsibility for it! My items were boxed and the boxes left open not sealed so the courier decided to steal the item I bid for or it was negligently lost as a result. They also took money directly from my account as I was struggling to find a way to get my items. Really horrible experience.
In house postage costs are a rip off, please bear this in mind before bidding. For example, Parcelforce offer to deliver a 10kg parcel anywhere in the UK for £9.00 collected and delivered, Unique charge £18.00 for this service? So a piece of bubble wrap and a box and one minute to package it all costs £9.00, I don’t think so. Liberty takers. Customer service were extremely rude when I complained, so I will not be using this auction house again and suggest you avoid too.

I participated in a large record auction that Unique Auctions held. The lots had elaborate descriptions that went into some detail on their condition, and gave the impression that whoever graded the records really knew their stuff. These were rare and collectable records, many of them were upwards of £100 each.
Because I was bidding internationally, it took some time to ship the records. When they arrived, I was horrified. Almost completely across the board, the records failed to match their descriptions. In the worst cases, and there were many of them, records that had been graded as “near mint” had scratches on them bad enough to cause skips.
I wrote to Unique Auctions as soon as I’d started cleaning and playing the records but they were dismissive of my concerns. The proprietor, Terry Woodcock, informed me that the records had all been graded by the original owner, and sold with his descriptions. He told me “we give customers 7 days to raise any concerns”. I was prepared to return the over-graded records at my own expense, but was told they would not entertain my request for a refund.
The fact that the auction house had not done their due diligence and investigated the condition of the records themselves speaks to the level of care they employ in the preparation of their auctions. That I didn’t ascertain their returns policy before I spent thousands of pounds on records with them, that’s on me, to be sure. But the takeaway from this situation is that Unique Auctions is a company that is content to over-promise and under-deliver. Proceed with caution.
Terry,Debbie and all at Unique Auctions are first class, great service, excellent prices achieved for my items. One item arrived at their offices having suffered some slight damage in transit, they repaired it at their expense and then included it in their next auction. Brilliant can't recommend them for selling or buying too highly. Looking forward to working with them again
What a shambles , I visited the auction house for the first time on Thursday 23rd , I noted half a dozen lots of interest . Later in the day I rang the office to enquire what the cut off time was for bidding on line ? the reply I got was bid as soon as possible . In my view the answer to a totally different question . When I tried to place my bids on friday evening I found online bidding had closed . All i can say is you make Arthur Johnson at Nottingham look very professional
I have been buying from here for 3 years now. Terry and the team are fantastic really helpful. Also the review saying Tracey is rude couldn't be more wrong. She is always pleasant and polite. I would highly recommended unique auctions to anyone.
I have never used an auction house before, just eBay, but I needed to sell a very large collection of mine. I contacted various people but all only wanted the better items. I went online and saw that Unique Auctions do house clearances so I spoke to them and explained to them it was only a room clearance. Terry himself came to see all the items and he accepted the commission. He arranged for extra crates to be delivered and his very helpful and polite staff arrived promptly a couple of days later to load the many crates and boxes into their van.
Throughout the experience they have been nothing but helpful, always kept me up to date with the proceedings and because I couldn't get to the auction it was explained how to follow it online.
I would highly recommend them, and if ever I built up a large collection again I would immediately contact them.
Thanks to Terry and all his staff.
Wow - Fantastic list of items in the March 2019 three-day auction and all beautifully displayed. Unique has excelled. Congratulations to all.
Go to other auction houses, where you get better service and they don't send you broken items !
Disgusting proprietor !
Asked for a partial refund / repair of fragile Victorian item,
refused outright !
"We don't do partial refunds!" was the reply.
Demanded I send the very fragile item back to give me full refund,
which was not what I had consistently been saying.
