After travelling over 1000km across borders to stay, our accomodation was unfortunately cancelled on the day due to a very nearby bushfire. Unforeseen circumstances happen except we have since found out this bushfire has been ongoing for some time and Victoria, Australia has been under an active fire warning for over a month. There was plenty of time for the hosts to inform us of the ongoing situation and for us to assess the risk rather than waiting to cancel 4 hours before check-in. Worst of all, they refused to provide a refund. They only offered a credit note so we could reschedule. As we are not from the area, we refused and asked for a refund under Australian Consumer Law, they told us “I don’t understand”. We informed them we needed the refund so we could then book emergency accommodation for ourselves so we could be safe during the bushfires. They said they could not help us until the next day. Afterwards, I rang Airbnb and was very quickly informed that the host must provide a refund if they are cancelling and they were horrified that we were left on our own with no support to book last min accomodation. We were refunded within the hour and given a voucher to book alternative accomodation. They even found similar listings nearby in safe towns to help us and checked in afterwards. We are yet to hear back from Unyoked. We will never be booking again.

Editing post response from Unyoked:
- The area had active fires reported by Victorian authorities since 9th Jan. There had been an active fire warning in place across the state for over a month. Not once was this communicated to us in advance.
- The rep kept in touch with us throughout the day as we kept messaging to see if we were getting a refund. The rep would only respond that we weren’t eligible for refund under their T&Cs and would have to speak to their head office.
- Not once was it made clear to us that they needed to sort anything out with Airbnb. In fact, Airbnb policy makes it clear that if the host cancels, you are eligible for a refund. Why is that not easily actionable if you are a company listing on Airbnb?
- From the day of our cancellation, we have not received a follow up as promised nor any other communication other than a response to this review.
- Not once did any rep of Unyoked check in to make sure we were safe and found a place to sleep despite claiming that they care about guest safety. Airbnb, a multi-billion dollar international corp, called me twice to ensure we were safe.

Everything I needed was there and it was so beautifully designed for comfort and serenity. It was a wonderful private oasis in the bush land and so peaceful.

The whole experience was amazing. The cabin was thoughtfully designed and very well equipped with everything one needed. An opportunity for the mind, body and surrounding to reconnect . The air was so fresh!

I'm so glad to have found this company! Off I went on my own to Rex, not half an hour from where I live but could have been hours away. The cabin is cute and well-stocked, and the advice for how to unplug and unwind is welcome.
I would love to see the cabin at different times of the year to experience the seasons - I had sunshine, frost, rain, gloom, the lot - but I had my thermals and yellow wellies and was well-prepared for it!
Sadness on the final morning drinking coffee outside and watching the squirrels, ducks and deer and listening to the bird calls, realising that I did in fact have to re-emerge into civilisation.
The Unyoked team were also responsive and friendly when I needed to get in touch with them.
Highly recommend.

An unyoked nature break works every time; even the journey to & from is partmof the adventure and puts you in the mind frame of relaxing, opening your mind and exploring the countryside

The Max cabin/location is simply stunning. The cabin itself is really well thought out and included everything you could think of needing. A couple of options for making fresh coffee, delicious teas, any pot/pan/utensil you may need, a picnic set up and some relaxing books/games if you need entertainment beyond watching the sheep, listening to the creek or just existing in nature. The setting itself is so special, I couldn’t have asked for more. A hammock in the shade next to a stream is the perfect place for reading and daydreaming, the native forest surrounding is stunning, the sheep and cows provide a comical opportunity to ‘people watch’, and the outdoor bath just tops it all off. I had a mixture of sunshine, overcast and thunder and lightning so I can safely vouch for Max no matter the weather! My only regret is not booking another night, I’ll be back one day to remedy this. My tip would be to read ‘The Consolations of Philosophy’ if it is there on your visit - I’m sure it was intentional, but it is the most perfect book to read in a setting such as this. Thank you for sharing this slice of heaven!

This was probably one of the most beautiful places I’ve stayed at. I got this voucher for my boyfriend’s birthday and we finally booked it. It’s so cute and small in a comforting way. We spent each night in the hot tub and during the days we chilled out and relaxed, watched the sheep eating all around us. There was even two black alpacas or llamas around the area as well. Definitely worth it. There’s no microwave or anything using power though mainly just a stove and a kettle for the stove. But a really cute cassette player with tapes and you can connect Bluetooth! Can’t really fault this at all. It was a much needed mini holiday, we absolutely loved it, i’m with Telstra and I didn’t have any service at all but my boyfriend is with Vodafone and he got decent service! The walk up with the wheelbarrow was honestly very hard and even getting down without rolling away was difficult to but other than that I can’t really complain!

Loved it. Amazing cabin in a great location. Attention to detail is incredible. While simplistic one the one hand, the amenities supplied were superb and we were blown away by how neat it was and the level of thought that has gone into all the little details. Cannot rate it highly enough.

This was beyond any expectations. Everything was so smooth, the cabin was clean and had everything we needed + some. It was truly peaceful and restorative. We stayed at 'Nyssa' and the nature and views around it were insane. We also hiked down the hill to a river which was the highlight. This is a no brainer.

A memorable night away with our beloved dog. We appreciate the attention to detail - a tape player, board games and high quality bedding. My highlight was indulging in an outdoor shower under the stars. I will be recommending Unyoked to friends and family.

I had the best time in Gus. It was put first time and everything was so lovely. When we arrived there were no electricity and we couldn’t figure it out where the hot water was but didn’t matter. Put the fire on and we had a blast. Bed were super comfy, the cabin super cute and the views were stunning. And the all concept behind it , absolutely love it!

If you are looking to go off grid, enjoy some peace and quiet this is the best place for it. It was perfect. the cabin is super well equipped, and while all easy accessible you feel isolated. Even in -3 Degrees it was very enjoyable. I will do it again :)

I loved the solitude, ambience, view and being unplugged. I especially loved the outdoor shower. Great experience!!

We had the best time during our unyoked stay in Chester, UK. The cabin (Ines) was just lovely, very comfy bed, all the provisions you need and we spent 3 very happy evenings bundled up with the fire. There is an amazing pub a few minutes walk away (the Pheasant) which we hada great NYE lunch in. We had a little technical hitch at one point so we contacted the Unyoked support who had it working in no time - thought their response time and customer service was top tier. Can't recommend highly enough and we're already looking forwards to our next stay with unyoked.

Stunning views, very peaceful, the tape deck and unyoked tapes were really nice as well. We are excited to try as many cabins as we can!

Our Unyoked nature escapes have truly become a staple for us, we now book at least two weekends away every year, and after visiting four different cabins over the past two years, we can confidently say we are completely hooked!

My partner and I cannot recommend Unyoked enough. As a younger couple who love the idea of getting off-grid but don’t have the setup or gear for traditional camping, Unyoked offers the absolute perfect balance. The cabins are beautifully designed, incredibly comfortable, and thoughtfully equipped with everything you need - without taking away from the immersive nature experience.

Every stay feels effortless and stress-free, allowing us to truly switch off, slow down, and reconnect with nature (and each other). From the secluded locations to the small details inside the cabins, it’s clear how much care and intention goes into every Unyoked experience. It’s become our go-to way to reset, recharge, and escape the noise of everyday life. 💛

Amazing place to be

We’ve used Unyoked twice and highly recommend it. It’s perfect for escaping the world and simply resetting. Book yourself a stay!

Wonderful experience staying in Maynard in Hampshire, UK. It was so peaceful, the cabin had everything I needed but nothing superfluous. Wish I could have stayed for longer. Unyoked were super responsive to my messages when I needed anything.

Only quibble is that after I had issues locking the lock box on the final night - no problem with that, things happen -
I contacted Unyoked. I found a solution to locking the door while I slept, but before that, the Unyoked staff member had suggested that I’d be fine sleeping with the door unlocked as the estate was ‘safe and secure’. This was despite me being a female travelling alone, and the estate being completely open, no fences around it, having a lot of other neighbouring residences around it, and having multiple public footpaths running through it.

I didn’t feel at all unsafe the whole time I was there, and I’m sure wouldn’t have faced any issues if it had been unlocked, but I still felt it wasn’t very responsible advice from the company to tell a single female traveller that the security situation was better than it was and suggest sleeping with the door unlocked.

But it was only a tiny thing, and found another solution (hence leaving 5 stars not 4) and everything else was great.
