Terrible admin and systems. Unable to process a valid foreign (UAE) driving license at BHX. Completely ruined my whole trip back to the UK to see family as I only had a 24 hour layover.

Avoid

Avoid. They charge a hidden seniors fee (when you show to get vehicle), which is dressed up as a deposit. Plus the vehicle will be a dented wonder with a noisy droning exhaust. There are better providers.

Be Careful They Try to Take Extra Money at Pickup

Title: Hidden Charges and Terrible Service

U Save tried to charge me an extra 350+ EUR at pickup, claiming I needed a physical credit card.
This requirement was not made clear during booking. It felt like they were looking for an excuse to demand more money at the last moment.
On the same day, I rented directly from Sixt without any problems or extra demands and received excellent service.
Very disappointed with both U Save and Booking.com for allowing such practices.

I wish I didn’t have to give them 1 star, absolutely awful, SCAM COMPANY! Be warned! Also booking.com, they review this scam company highly and will not support us, I booked a hire car through booking.com, it never arrived, they ignored every phone call, I spoke to a local business person at pick up point, he said “this happens everyday!” Do not use! And booking.com I’m taking it further you dirty awful scammers!

Do not use this scam company at all…

Do not use this scam company at any cost near London Heathrow airport! They shouldn’t even get one star. We’ve rented cars many times and never had issues until now — by far the worst experience we’ve ever had.

The area they’re located in looked dodgy and run down, and the company was not transparent at all. They demanded proof of $35,000 liability coverage with a PIN number, yet offered no help or proper explanation and clearly did not care.

In the end we went with Hertz instead and had absolutely no issues. We were not prepared to deal with what felt like a dishonest and unprofessional company that should not be in business.

Ended up in court!

I rented a vehicle last august from the U-save rental car company in tampa florida. they charged my credit card $2k for a deposit.
I didn't think much of it since they said they would return it in 10 business days. Well, when I was doing my taxes I realized they never returned my deposit.
So I contacted the local company and they gave me the run around. I went online and learned that it was a franchise and if we wanted the franchise contact information we had to contact corporate.
So I sent corporate a certified letter which was ignored.
I'm used to companies playing games so I didn't hesitate to take them to court. I filed a small claims case and had them served.
THEN I received a call back but don't get your hopes up just yet. I spoke with the gentleman on the call and he was super apologetic and stated that although this was a franchise issue corporate would step in and do the right thing.
I was like great! He sent a certified package overnight with the check and as a condition of accepting the check I was supposed to dismiss the case with prejudice so they couldn't face any additional action related to this case.
I was born in the morning but it wasn't yesterday morning so when they sent me the check I waited for the check to clear before dismissing the case. Low and behold, just like I figured, the check was cancelled on their end.
I didn't really care since the case was moving forward so I contacted the representative, told him what happened and he seemed surprised. I was like whatever and he offered to send an ACH to which I agreed skeptically.
The next week was our court date to which I showed up and nobody from their end did so I won a default judgement. The representative contacted me later that day to ask if I had received the wire and low and behold I did.
So I dismissed the case with prejudice but I will never rent from them again! Hopefully this helps anyone else dealing with the nonsense of them not returning your deposit.
Don't give up on getting your money back...TAKE THEM TO COURT!

Only giving one star because 0 was not an option. Worst experience trying to rent a car in my 25 years of rental experience. Do not come here. Lots of extra hidden charges. Save yourself time and money. So glad I had not pre-paid this shitty company.

No support regarding breakdown cover. What are they trying to hide?

Booking made with U-Save, Gatwick. I had a couple of queries regarding the ambiguous breakdown cover information in the confirmation and sent them an email. Received a standard reply, which said they would get back to me, but I never heard anything. I followed up with three further emails over the next month. Nothing still. I don’t know what they are trying to hide, but their lack of response doesn’t instill confidence. I did try calling the branch a few times as well, but no one answered the phone. Consequently, I’ve cancelled the reservation and re-booked with another supplier.

I never received my deposit of 150 euro

I never received my deposit of 150 euro

I was told that it would take a couple of bank days to get the deposit back
It has now been a month and nothing has happend

I called them and they said to write to them on whatsapp. They didnt answer for 3 days. And when they did they just said wait longer.

My bank cant see the transfer and Usave refuse to contact theirs to see if the transfer went through

Never use this company its a scam

I would have put zero if I could!!

I would have put zero if I could. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!

On return of our vehicle we were told everything was fine, sign a blank screen, only to find out later that I was being charged for the fuel tank not being full. We only travelled a short distance over the rental and filled the car up 1 mile from the drop off at a cost of half the amount that was charged. On challenging the cost I was issued with a picture of the dashboard. While hard to tell, the image must have been doctored and in my mind the company have committed fraud in charging me for this.

In addition, the car provided was lower category than booked, was pretty old and with low functionality. The staff also took ages to get through the queue as they were trying to sell upgrades, etc.

Not a company I have dealt with before and one that I am not likely to deal with ever again. Would rather walk!!

Worst car rental experience.

Worst car rental experience.
I rented a van for my family, including my 1-year-old nephew, and we had to wait more than an hour for the shuttle from the airport to the rental location.
Even though I already had personal insurance and purchased additional coverage when booking, I was forced to buy a third insurance at the counter. On top of that, I was charged a $200 security deposit that was never returned, despite returning the van in excellent condition.
After multiple claims, I was told to dispute the charge with my credit card company because they could not process the refund themselves.

Avoid U-SAVE – You Won’t Save
I was drawn in by what seemed like a great deal with U-SAVE, but it ended up costing me nearly three times more than expected.
I initially paid €100 online for the car rental with U-SAVE, which was significantly cheaper than other companies, However, when I arrived, they refused to accept my independent car hire insurance, even though I use it worldwide, Instead, they presented me with several intimidating options: a €3,000 deposit plus €150 for fuel, or reduced deposits of €900 or €450, all with additional fuel charges.
Alternatively, they pushed their own “full insurance” option, promising no checks on return, along with a €50 fuel charge refundable if the car is returned full. Faced with these high deposit demands and pressure tactics, I felt forced to accept their insurance option.
To make matters worse, their office is about 15 minutes far from the airport in a very isolated area, with no transport links, there’s no easy way to get a taxi, as the site is off the main road, you may end up dragging your luggage for around 15 minutes just to reach a place where you can try to find one if you ever thought about rejecting their offer.
In the end, I paid an additional €230, bringing the total cost to almost three times the original booking price, more than I would have paid with well-known rental companies.
My advice, avoid being tempted by low upfront prices from smaller companies like U-SAVE. It’s often better to go with established providers that are transparent, respect their customers, and cares about their reputation.

They seem to be very responsive. It's just that the truth is far away. They gave me an immediate answer here on trustpilot. It's just that I can't apply for a complaint on their website. They don't have anything like that. I tried to write to them by email. But no one answers. They took my money and that's it. Extreme scam

Extreme scam. BE AWARE! They don't accept cash or debit card, only CREDIT CARD for deposit. If you don't have, you have to pay the full insurance yet again (190eurs for a small car for 5 days- was more than the rent itself), it doesn't matter that I paid already 'full insurance' on booking.com. The guy was polite, but seemd very experienced in performing such scams. DON'T GO THERE!! NEVER AGAIN!!!

I hope you read this before booking…

I hope you read this before booking U-Save at any locations. I promise it’s worth paying a little bit more at other car rental places than dealing with those people.

I only remembered to do this review because they JUST sent me my $500 deposit back 2 MONTHS LATER. (They tell you you get it after returning the car)

First, the rental place is pretty far away from the airport. Took an hour waiting for a shuttle, going thru stops and finally getting to the rental place.

From there, you have to do a video chat with their agent that barely speaks English. What you pay for online is NOT the final price. The agent will try to add an extra $100+ for collision and liability insurance. They won’t tell you that you can actually use your existing collision insurance. Even then I was still forced to pay liability insurance.

The car I received was fine. They did not do a pre inspection with me. Make sure to ask for this so they don’t try to add existing damages/flaws on the car on to you. I made sure to take a video of the car when I returned it.

Lastly, my return flight was delayed due to the weather. So I told them that I need to update my drop off time to later in the day. Called them explaining my situation. You would think they would sympathize with your situation. They tried to charge me a full day worth of rental. It was around $100 to rent it for 3 days, but they wanted to charge an extra $200+ for adjusting my drop off time by a couple hours.. They couldn’t get a single extra dollar more from me because I refused to pay more than what was agreed upon on the contract.

Avoid this place at all cost.

Wonderful experience

From the day we called to reserve a vehicle for our trip, to the day we picked up and returned our service was wonderful. The car was great on gas mileage and so nice. April and Bri made everything go smoothly. Definitely will use them again.

My worst rental experience in 1,000+ rentals and, to quote Jeremy Clarkson, a great illustration of the fact that some things are cheap for a reason, and that reason is that they’re sh*t…

To start off the rental voucher wrongly indicated their location, and the number on the voucher (which I tried calling to figure out where to find them) was dead. And it was downhill from there… 😆

The rental staff and manager did all they could (ultimately successfully) to make sure I didn’t rent from them. They first, unnecessarily, insisted on an international driving permit (IDP), and then, when I presented one (which multiple rentals previously accepted without a problem), they pontificated on why it happens to be in a format that they don’t accept. Leaving me stranded, with no car for the two-week planned stay.

To spice things up, I happen to have a Polish mobile driving license, which they, most likely illegally, also refused to accept (insisting on a paper copy instead), making it clear that it wasn’t my ability to legally drive in Poland that was their concern, but rather that they were seeking a technicality to renege on the online booking I had…

If any additional proof of this was needed, the helpdesk of the company that issued my voucher tried to intervene, agreeing there was no reason for U-Save to ask for an IDP, and no reason to reject mine, and ultimately (once the intervention failed) logging a complaint that is now being investigated. And Budget, literally next door from U-Save, per the photo, rented me a car, and my US license worked perfectly there. Plus they confirmed that they would have accepted my Polish mobile driving license as well…

Our rental conditions require customers to present documentation that meets both local legal requirements and our insurance and compliance standards. This includes:

- A valid driving licence in an approved physical format

- An International Driving Permit (IDP) when required

- Documents that comply with the recognised international conventions governing licence formats

In your case, the documents presented did not meet the required format. For that reason, our team was unable to validate the rental agreement. These requirements are not optional, and our staff cannot override them, even when a customer has rented elsewhere without issue.

Regarding the mobile driving licence, digital formats are not universally recognised or accepted across all jurisdictions. Where a physical licence is required by law or by our insurance partners, we must follow those rules without exception. This is a compliance obligation, not a discretionary choice.

We appreciate that other rental companies may apply different policies, but each provider operates under its own procedures, insurance agreements, and risk‑assessment standards. The fact that another company accepted your documents does not change the requirements that apply to our operations.

As for the voucher details, the booking and communication systems used by third‑party brokers are managed independently from our local station. When information provided by a broker is inaccurate, we encourage customers to raise this directly with the issuing company so it can be corrected.

We regret that we were unable to complete your rental; however, the decision made by our team was fully in line with the conditions of hire and the regulatory requirements that apply to our location.

Do not use this company

Do not use this company. You need to pay a £2,000 deposit, they require two bills to show your current address, a share code plus more. Just not worth the hassle and on top of that they don’t give you the correct car, not to mention your mileage allowance is capped.

This company is a big rippoff

This company is a big rippoff. The added charges were huge. Brought a $50 rental to over $450 plus wanted $2000 in security. I showed them proof of liability insurance and said it was not enough and said they would not accept an umbrella policy that I had for 1 million dollars. All excuses to add on charge after charge. This did not even collision coverage
I refused the rental and called an uber to reach my destination. Do not use them unless you like to get ripped off

Our locations must follow strict insurance requirements, and unfortunately not all policies, including certain liability or umbrella policies, meet the coverage levels required to release a vehicle. When the required coverage cannot be verified, additional insurance must be purchased at the counter. We recognise this can be disappointing, but it is part of the mandatory rental conditions.

As the rental was not completed and no payment was processed by us, we are unable to issue a refund on our side. Any prepaid amount is handled directly by the booking platform, and their cancellation policy applies. We recommend contacting them so they can review your case.
