Be aware of all small print contract details when booking a car at Usave

When we arrived after a long haul flight from Germany in Johannesburg, no one from the Usave team was at the agreed meeting place. They do not have a counter desk at the airport. It was nearly impossible to contact them as no one was answering the phone. We waited for nearly 2 hours after the car arrived. We booked and paid the fee for a first class insurance (premium package plus) but needed to accept a deposit of R 3000. We asked the Usave guy that in any case this will be the maximum we would have to pay what he agreed to. A few days after return of the car we received the following message:
As per the booking confirmation, your liability in the event of an accident is R0(excess)

As the damage was less than the double excess of R6 000, you were billed the damage amount, claim admin fee & assessment fee.
15.3. Subject to the provisions of the waiver covered in clause 15.2, under the following circumstances, the Customer will be liable for double the excess liability amount applicable to the Collision Damage Waiver excess amount for all Usave Packages and Waivers. Visit usave.com for the terms and conditions, including collision damage waiver excess:

15.3.2. If The Vehicle was involved in a single-vehicle accident, i.e., no contact or direct involvement of any other vehicle and /or a hit and run incident;

So they do have a hidden rule in their small print contract on their webpage that you can pay up to to the double of your deposit which they collect direct from your credit card without any further agreement.
We sent them a message in order to find an agreement on a good will basis due to the bad service when receiving the car, sent them a reminder but they simply did not answer.
Therefore we agree to a lot of reviews we have read that they try to collect money after car return on very strange ways and we also do not recommend to choose Usave as this behaviour is neither fair nor serious

BEWARE!

BEWARE!! I was taken to their website through Avello Airlines so I didn’t think much about the Company. The cost for a 7 day rental in Ft Lauderdale was only $140.00 for a mid size car. We had to shuttle to the U Save where they asked if
we had insurance which we do with Travelers. She then pointed to a list with a handful of insurance companies ours was not listed she then charged us an additional $453.96!
We argued we have insurance & there was nothing on line stating they didn’t take all insurance. This never happened with other car rental companies. When we dropped the car off there was another couple being told the same thing!

Beware they are scammers

Beware they are scammers, avoid them.

U-save car rental in Alajuela, costarica charges additional fees on each rental saying that you need to take mandatory insurance which is more than the actual car rental price. They show cheaper price for car rental upfront and when you go to rent the car they charge extra at the counter which is more than the actual rent of the car. Beware of these kind of scammers and Priceline should take immediate action on these kind of people

Terrible service

It took an hour an half wait to obtain a preebooked vehicle. When I inspected the vehicle I noticed that not all damages were declared. I notified the memeber of staff who handed over the vehicle that there is more damage on the vehicle than it was recorded. I pointed out that the headlamp has water inside so it must be damaged. He assured me that it will work fine. Later on the day I switched in the headlamp and a warning came up on the dash that the headlamp is faulty. I could not get meyself to go back to the branch to deal with the problem as I did not have a confidence in tje USave team. We ended up limiting the use of the car to daytime only.

I would not use them again

I would not use them again. They lured us in on Expedia with a low rental rate then gouged us when we got there to pick up. It was supposed to be a $40 rental for the week and it turned into $425 by the time we left. They would not accept my commercial insurance and forced us to pay $357 for insurance for the week. Rental, taxes and fees were supposed to be $40 and it turned into almost $70. They also tried to gouge me about $150 on a sun pass fee for the week but I refused and just stayed off the toll roads. We did get a nice car but I am disgusted with how they bait and switch and I would never use them again. Stick to the bigger name rental companies that are transparent with their prices. They sent me 2 emails after we got home asking about our experience and I replied to the email and called them and have heard nothing back.

Terrible service

Terrible service. They advertised low prices. On Expedia as “great deal”. But when you get there they have lots of mandatory fees. Do not use their company. Employees are rude. Every customer we encountered at the building was upset.

AVOID AT ALL COST

Very disappointing experience (Bari, Italy).

We had a reservation, but unfortunately the main driver did not have a credit card. That was our mistake — however, another person present did have a valid credit card and was fully willing to become the main driver and pay any additional fees.

What followed was completely unacceptable.

The staff showed zero willingness to help or find any solution, even though a reasonable one clearly existed. They refused any adjustment outright, even if we were ready to pay more.

Their attitude was extremely arrogant and unprofessional. There was visible eye-rolling, dismissive behavior, and the way they spoke to us felt condescending — as if we were stupid and they were superior. Communication was also difficult due to poor English, and no effort was made to explain things properly.

At one point, I asked whether it was more important for them to keep €40 or to have a satisfied customer. The response I received was that they simply do not care about customers.

We were left without a car and without any assistance, despite being present, cooperative, and willing to resolve the situation.

Overall, a very careless and disrespectful approach to customers. I strongly recommend avoiding this company.

Experiance

I hated the bus ride to pick up. Way too long . Too many stops and took nearly half hour drive . And only one bus per hour . So total took2.5 hours with traffic and bus etc to get from airport to hotel ,which was only 35 min drive away from heathrow . On a positive note the drop off was excellant .with friendly staff . Picking up just to long winded .

Never again

Location: San Juan, PR.
Pickup from the airport was quick — the shuttle runs every 10–15 minutes, so no issues there.
The line was also short; we were first and only waited about 10 minutes.

However, that’s where the positive experience ended.
The company immediately tried the usual tricks common with smaller rental agencies. They insisted that my insurance was not acceptable and pushed me to purchase their own coverage.
The problem is that the cost of their insurance was more than half of the total rental price, which is simply unreasonable.
They refused to discuss or offer any alternatives, so the only option was to walk away. Unfortunately, this seems to be a common pattern with these types of companies.
If you want to avoid unnecessary stress and unpleasant surprises, it’s honestly better to pay a bit more and rent from a major company directly at the airport.
Also, Expedia listed this company as being located at the airport, but in reality, you have to take a shuttle to get there — which is misleading.
Overall, a very negative experience.

Pleasantly Surprised

After reading some horror stories I was concerned about this rental but I am pleased to say no such issues at Naples Italy.

We arrived and called for the shuttle which arrived in 5 minutes, the van was a bit ropey and made some odd noises but got us there in less than 3 minutes. Walking would take 15-20 mins so up to you.

We collected the car promptly putting the security deposit in on collection. I was asked to video the car to document damage before leaving the site which I normally do anyway. On return I walked the car with the rep and he signed us off with no issue and deposit was returned within the hour.

The lady at the desk was Great as well wasn’t pushy with insurances etc just accepted a No from Us.

The car was a Toyota C-HR, was mostly clean, the interior could have done with more attention BUT it was in good condition and drove well throughout the hire period.

I am really impressed given the horror stories I have read and would like to thank the U-Save Naples team for the support and the hire.

PREDATORS!

PREDATORS!! and the surrounding business in orlando florida, advertise an affordable price on expedia, fly in i booked 3 cars through them, flew from NJ to florida. go to pick up rental and there's MANDATORY extra $600 charges, mandatory insurance $70 per day, mandatory toll pass $13 per day,

even tho i have an email that says $400 due at pick up, they tell
me it's $400 PLUS $581 in fees! more than my booking price! scum scum scum, RUN AWAY

My recent rental experience with U-Save…

My recent rental experience with U-Save near Tampa International Airport was disappointing.

I booked the car through Expedia and chose this company because the reservation included unlimited mileage. At pickup I was first given a car that was dirty and almost out of fuel. After I pointed it out, the employee switched me to another vehicle that had just been returned by a previous customer.

Shortly after leaving the location the tire pressure light came on. I added air and continued my trip to Miami, but the next day the tire was completely flat. When I contacted the rental office they suggested that I drive all the way back to Tampa using the emergency spare tire, which would have been around 300 miles. That didn’t feel like a safe solution, so I repaired the tire locally.

The repair cost about $32. I was told the manager would contact me but no one ever followed up, and when I returned the vehicle they refused to reimburse the repair.

Although the cost was small, the situation created unnecessary stress during a very short family trip.
