Extremely unprofessional service. Originally my appontment was for the 21st April, on the Sunday before I received a telephone call from the Secretary who said she had just popped into the office and seen my appointment but the Dr. would not be there on Tuesday so it was changed to the Thursday. If I had turned up for my appointment on the Tuesday there would not have been anyone there! The entrance to the building was covered in scaffolding and no attempt had been made to provide this information when booking the appointment so very difficult to find the Consulting Rooms. I did arrive on time but was kept waiting for over 30 minutes as I was told the Dr. was running late - when I finally met the Dr. he was not at all friendly and made no effort to put me at my ease. He just said in passing 'sorry to have kept you waiting'. I didnt feel that he explained the problems with my veins in enough detail and his demeanour was such that I didnt feel that I could ask him questions. I had written on the application form that I have a serious heart problem and had recently been in hospital. When I told him that I had been in hospital just before the Easter break he asked if this was because of my varicose veins when it clearly stated on my form that I was in hospital because of Atrial Flutter. Obviously he hadnt taken the time to read my notes which is so bad. I had put down detailed information about my heart condition and he had no idea so I had to explain it to him. By then I had lost confidence in him. His examination of my legs was cursory and he didint explain my problems to me in detail. Unbelievably once I was dressed he barely spared a second to say good bye to me as he was busy dictating his notes. So rude and unprofessional for a fee paying consultation, which is advertised as being for 45 minutes. I was in and out within 30 mins, which included getting undressed, going to the bathroom and getting dressed again.

I attended the Vein Centre in Cambridge. It’s a small, friendly and professional clinic. The surgeon efficiently diagnosed a varicose vein in my right leg and I booked treatment (ablation) which was quick and relatively painless. Unfortunately because I had the procedure in November, my follow up appointment was delayed due to the Christmas shutdown so when I developed thrombophlebitis the week before Christmas, it was difficult to get any appropriate advice as the clinic was closed. I ended up being referred to the local NHS Hospital by my GP who was concerned about DVT. I was assessed and treated there. It was scary at the time and I spent Christmas Eve at the thrombosis clinic which wasn’t great. However, I subsequently learned at my Vein Centre follow up in January that thrombophlebitis is a normal part of the healing process and is mentioned in the literature. However, at the time, I could only follow my GPs advice. Apart from this setback, I found everything else to be straightforward with a successful outcome. I would still recommend The Vein Clinic and would use them again.

I firstly filled out an online enquiry form and was contacted by phone from someone at Stoke on Trent Head Office who patiently answered my initial questions and made arrangements for my consultation. I was welcomed by a very friendly team who put me at my ease. After a discussion about the different treatments offered I was given an ultrasound and measured for support stockings. The treatment I need was explained fully and clearly and all questions answered and fees explained at the initial consultation. My treatment will start a few weeks later.

I arrived early to my appointment, the receptionist was kind but all the time talking by phone, I had previously treated varicose veins in my country, this time I decided to visit a specialist here, the doctor attended to me even though it was not my appointment time, but the check-up was very fast, I paid £250 for just a few questions, he did the ultrasound which was like 15 minutes is too expensive for the check-up time, he handed me a card with the price of the treatment, I expected him to explain more about my problem and the treatment, I asked him about the costs and he told me to ask at reception, when I returned to reception the lady was always on the phone, she would answer me something and then make me wait while she made another call, I asked her about the prices and some form of payment in months since my treatment or rather most of the treatments are above £2500 plus £300 for follow-up, she could not answer me she told me to look it up on the website, on the website they mention treatments at different prices and at the end on the card that They give you all the prices for different types of varicose veins, they are above £2500, my problem is not that severe, but I still have to pay that price for a single session, and if you want to pay in installments they charge you an interest of above %16 depending on how many months, I didn't think that in this country health care was so expensive. I have decided to go to my country for the treatment where I will spend much less than half of what I do here.
