Horrid Service

The first time I bought a large capacity hard drive it was dead on arrival, two months later, it was replaced. Second purchase they sent it to the wrong city when the invoice showed the correct information.

Bought their top of the line enterprise…

Bought their top of the line enterprise disk, it broke after 4 months, returned it for an RMA and theyve had it for a month and wont send a replacement. Each time i speak to their support they just say oh just keep waiting. Ask to speak to a supervisor i get told one isnt available. (I dont believe this as twice no supervisor is availble, yeah right). Their support doesnt care and its been a month that i have no disk for my server and WD doesnt give a damn

Terrible warranty support

I purchased Red Pro NAS drives for my QNAP backup. One drive failed after two years and I made a warranty claim as it was still under a 5 year warranty. The process to get an RMA was convoluted at best. I sent the drive back and was informed that I would receive a replacement in 5-7 business days. It is currently 3 weeks and I am still waiting. I called warranty support several times with the most recent stating that their replacement department was undergoing maintenance and they could not tell me when the drive will ship. I will never purchase another Western Digital drive.

RMAs are so slow

RMAs are so slow. I've been waiting two and a half weeks so far, with no signs of anything happening. My parcel was sent next day (at my cost) and is just sat there marked "Received / Processing". A drive turning up dead on arrival is annoying, but a big company like WD should offer better support than this. Definitely will be posting the same info on reddit, X, FaceBook etc, with the hope it informs more people of what to expect if they buy WD.

I have had 2 drives from WD and never…

I have had 2 drives from WD and never been able to recover data in anger. Seems WD have a tactic to EOL products frequently. Hardware EOL, OS EOL, Software EOL, support links go to dead end web pages. It really does appear to be designed to frustrate. I have never managed to use these drives in anger. When I need to go back to my data, it's inaccessible due to some EOL component. I'm so frustrated today that I tried their chatbot and it was useless. I just want reliable backup that I can access if needed in x years time!!

The worst customer support ever!

The worst customer support ever!
I bought an external hard drive that became faulty a few weeks later, not spinning up and grinding against the case etc
Raised a warranty claim and sent it back for a replacement…. now three weeks later and still waiting for the replacement to be dispatched. Contacting customer support results in the generic response that this has been escalated in their internal team. So I just have to keep waiting. Awful.

Western Digital customer service is awesome!

I want to shout out to Western Digital for helping with my recent purchase for a portable hard disk drive. They helped to solved the shipping issue immediately - just 15 mins on the live chat. It's incredible! I love it!

Beware of their DELIVERY PARTNER though (the BROWN van - go figure, not putting names because of legal reasons), they are THE WORSE - spent 1 hour 30mins on the phone with them and nothing resolved! I will be leaving a review for them too.

Poor website functionality, worse customer service.

Ordered a 10TB WD hard drive from the official website, I was repeatedly given the error that my debit card number was invalid until I switched to an alternative browser (MS Edge). Using MS Edge did not show a confirmation upon making payment for the item. Card was immediately charged for $219 and I received an email saying I had ordered "0 quantity". A subsequent email stated that they had automatically cancelled my order, but they did not refund me.
After calling Customer Support, I was met by an agent who did not speak English very well or even understand the issue at hand. After ten minutes of back-and-forth, I was told that the order number I had provided simply did not exist. I was forced to contact my bank to reverse the charge.
I can not in good faith recommend purchasing from Western Digital to anyone, no matter how appealing the prices may be.

The Project 2 in 24 tb configuration

The Project 2 in 24 tb configuration, completely failed in 40 days, leading to a catastrophic loss of 7tb of invaluable data. Western digital support has taken over 1 month to ship a replacment. At the time of this review i am still waiting for an update., this is the worse experience i have ever had with a hardrive of any brand, capacity or model. A total unprofessional device, support team brand and product. Avoid!!!

I'm having problems with a Western…

I'm having problems with a Western Digital external hard drive. When you get on the website it offers a phone number or support the problem is when you call it it prompts you to either get online or call another number when you call the other number it sends you back somewhere else it's just a circle no one wants to talk to you so I decided to chat. I chatted with two different support people on two different occasions neither one did anything more than waste my time. Then they told me that they would have someone call me we set up a day and time and they were almost an hour late for the call and he immediately stated that the best way to shut a drive down is to turn the computer off and then pull out the USB, what a joke that was. I said you mean to tell me I'm gonna stop what I'm doing turn my computer off pull out the USB then turn my computer back on open up all the files I had and continue to work, he said yes.
An even bigger joke was they sent me a coupon for 20% off my next purchase, were they serious.
I truly hope this is helpful to anyone that is thinking of purchasing a Western Digital product, after all is said and done no one really wants to talk to you.
I investigated Samsung products, and they have a team of support people that will gladly speak to you over the phone.

I bought the drive and haven't been…They don't want to fix the problem because they want me to buy a new disk

I bought the drive and haven't been able to use it for 20 hours since I bought it. I've been constantly involved in repairs. I took it to a recovery center, and they say there's no problem with the drive, no errors, no damage. Then we plug it into another computer and the drive crashes. We repair it again, and it appears to be fine, but we turn the computer off and on again, and the drive crashes. WD doesn't intend to fix this; they never want to diagnose the problem because they're afraid I won't buy a new drive. Stay away. Especially if you're on a Mac, definitely get Apple's recommendations. Don't let your data get lost.

Western DIgital has become a disgusting…

Western DIgital has become a disgusting organization. The customer service people are incompetent. I had to threaten to personally contact their CEO if the 5th customer service person I spoke to did not respond to my questions with coherent, thorough answers. I finally got what I needed regarding Acronis Backup software. They recommend incremental because it's more "efficient". What they don't explain is that it is a data hog. It filled up my external hard drive which would, if I wasn't alert, force me to purchase a larger, more costly hard drive. I called the last customer service out on this and he admitted that what I said was accurate. Therefore, I will NEVER purchase anothe Western Digital product again. Caveat Emptor!

6TB My Home Cloud

Ref 6TB My Home Cloud. Purchased the product as a way of backing up mobile phone data, primarily images. The product can store data, yes, but its a terrible solution. If you have 10'000 images spread over 10 files in your phone, the product shows everything indiscriminately into 1 massive folder and ignores the folders altogether. Furthermore, it has a huge issue to organise by name or date and is easily confused by different naming conventions. The product is unable to merge folders and avoid duplications too. The software is poor, clunky and slow, making for an arduous experience for the user.
The purpose of the drive was to neatly and efficiently store photos in the folders that had been created for years to come. Since the only way to access the data is online via an app, the user would have a serious headache to sort through the pictures and enjoy reviewing memories. It requires a continuous daily or weekly audit to track and organise any backed up data, regardless of how you've already organised it on your phone. All of my feedback has been confirmed by the technical team, and they acknowledged the product shortfalls. Total waste of money. AVOID.

If I could give them 0 stars or minus…

If I could give them 0 stars or minus stars I would!

Had two of my hard drives completely fail on me. Spoke with WD live chat who told me to send them back for them to send replacement.

To this day I have had no further correspondence or replacements sent. So I paid for two hard drives. They broke. And now I have nothing. Great.

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE
TERRIBLE PRODUCTS.

Incredibly disappointed

Incredibly disappointed! Bought two of their external hard drives and both of them stopped working within a year! Lost all data and unfortunately, one of them was purchased from a Curry’s shop and I was silly enough to reach out to WD for a replacement under warranty!
At first, the customer service representative was very helpful and I sent back the faulty hard drive. This is where the issues started piling up as the return reached WD within a couple of days, at the beginning of May however, on the WD website, the tracking still shows the return as pending.
I have contacted customer service numerous times via email, live chat and even attempted calling them without any luck!
I have provided them all the information they asked for, such as proof of delivery with all the tracking information for the return to which they said they’ll get back to me within 3-5 working days with an update… that was almost 3 weeks ago and I’ve had nothing back!
I’ve asked for updates via email but had no reply and was told via live chat that the case has been escalated and I will be contacted as soon as possible…. Still nothing!
Shocking customer service! They are very quick to take your money but far from helpful when it comes to sorting out issues with their faulty products!
I wish I had read the reviews before buying their products! Save your money and time!

Absolutely terrible

Absolutely terrible. I ordered a hard drive directly from WD, it never turned up, and WD refused to send me another one, and refuse to refund me. Complete waste of my time, and what a hassle that I'm now going to have to dispute this with my credit card company.

I wish I'd seen all the other bad reviews earlier and I would have bought a drive from a decent company.

WD Elements SE SSD documentation

I bought a WD Elements Portable External SSD - 1 TB from Currys on 25 May 2025. It came with one sheet of paper about 34cm by 42cm containing 6 columns of extremely tiny print. In order to read it I had to scan it so that I could zoom the text to a readable size. Then I found it only contained contact details and warranty information. I found a 2 page document on their web site which contains virtually no information, although it did say that it was formatted exFAT. I cannot find its power requirements anywhere.
Since my Humax box doesn't support exFAT, I had to reformat the drive as FAT32. This was a struggle because Windows said it was too big for FAT32. I used CompuApps SwissKnife V3 to format it as FAT32.
I am using it to backup my Humax and to transfer files between my Humax and my PC. It does seem to be working OK at the moment.
