Be aware of their fraud!
After 4 weeks this company still owes me a deposit of 900(!!!!) Euro. I never experienced something like this with any other car rental company. A deposit of 900 Euro is just audacious, and instead of blocking this amount on my card they actually took it and never gave me a refund.
Very disappointing experience with Wheego.
I rented a car in Frankfurt and paid a €900 deposit, which should have been returned after I brought the car back on March 13th (no issues, no damages).
As of today, the money has NOT been refunded.
I’ve already confirmed with my bank that no transaction was initiated on their side.
I’ve reached out multiple times and am now escalating this legally.
If you're considering renting from them, be cautious — this is a significant amount of money to have “missing” with no explanation.
Happy to update if this gets resolved.
Wenn i returned the car the guy didn't look at it but went straight to the back. I knew exactly that i never touched something but he pointed to a scratch in 2 ? directions see picture. The car and bumper was totaly full of holes and scratches anyway. Lucky i had insurance and they payed me the 900€ after 3 months back but with a lot off misery. A shame i can not post a picture, you can't believe they asked 1146€..They are tiefs, stay away please...
Do not book car rental with this company. I rented with them months ago without and problem, but this time they’ve told me that I could only use my credit card (which I’d used 2 months before) if I bought insurance through them for £100 because my card had my initials on it. When I questioned this it was miraculously reduced to £75. I’m not sure how paying for insurance removes the need for my full name to be on the card! I’ve never heard so much rubbish from any other car rental company. Instead I’ll go with Drivalia who don’t try to rip you off! Ritz and Captain Malik asked for a recommendation on google. Hope you’re happy with people knowing your rip off merchants!
DO NOT HIRE FROM THIS COMPANY!!! We recently hired a vehicle from Your Rent/wheego mobility and the experience has been extremely disappointing.
During the rental, the vehicle broke down and would not start. At the time, we were clearly advised that charges would only apply if the issue was caused by user error. If the fault was mechanical or electrical, no charges would be made. Based on what happened, this was clearly not due to any misuse and is consistent with an electrical fault.
We have been chasing a refund of our deposit for weeks and has been fobbed off on a number of occasions. On our last call to the firm we were told a refund of our deposit had already been processed to our account. This was simply not true, as no refund had been received at that point. Since then we received an email stating that we’re being charged €320 for vehicle replacement, administration fees, and towing. The vehicle wasn’t even towed 🤷🏻♂️
We have asked for a clear explanation and supporting evidence, such as diagnostic reports, to justify their conclusion, but nothing has been provided so far.
Breakdowns can happen, but how a company responds is what defines the service. In this case, the handling of the situation, the lack of transparency, and the attempt to pass on disputed charges have been very poor.
I had a very stressful and disappointing experience with this rental company at pick-up.
At the time of booking, my confirmation clearly stated a deposit of £249. However, upon arrival, I was told the deposit would be increased to £990 as their company policy had changed without making me aware and unless I purchased their in-house insurance. I had already arranged separate excess insurance, but staff repeatedly pressured me to buy theirs and insisted that third-party insurance would not pay out, which I later understood to be misleading.
The situation became increasingly uncomfortable. I was told that “even the smallest scratch would be charged,” which felt like an intimidation tactic. After reviewing the contract, I can see that there is actually no clear definition of what qualifies as chargeable damage — no distinction between minor wear and tear and actual damage, and no indication of size or severity. This lack of clarity, combined with what I was told, made me feel I could be charged arbitrarily.
When I became visibly upset due to the pressure, I was told that the car might not be released to me unless I calmed down. Another staff member also approached and accused me of being rude, which I found unfair given the situation.
I was also informed that an additional £99 would be held for up to 6 months for potential fines, which was not clearly communicated beforehand.
I was also pressured into hiring snow chains. Weather was nice and warm and no need for it. When I expressed uncertainty about needing them, the staff member told me that he would check the GPS and fine me if I drove on the highway without them.
This felt threatening and left me with no real choice but to accept the additional charge. I do not believe this practice is fair, transparent, or lawful, and it caused me significant stress at the time of collection.
Overall, the experience felt highly pressurised, misleading, and far below the level of customer service I would expect. I would strongly advise others to read the terms very carefully and be prepared for significantly higher deposits and aggressive upselling at the counter.
For my own protection, I took a full video of the car at collection due to the number of existing small scratches, as I did not feel confident in how damage would be assessed on return.
We had booked a minibus for 9 days for our ski holiday at the airport in Hamburg with Wheego through EnjoyTravel. When we arrived, Wheego did not have a minibus for us. The next day, Wheego registered us as a no-show. After several weeks of emails back and forth, we finally managed to get our money back. They did not want to accommodate our inquiries regarding compensation for unforeseen costs and partially spoiled vacation days. I would never treat my customers like this! The email address given in the company's response in other reviews (cs..wheego-mobility..com) has long been informed in several emails.
SCAMMERS!!!
I booked prepaid at Sofia Airport 6 March through Ryanair, taking the extra insurance option with Ryanair.
At the pickup desk, which is NOT in the airport despite them describing themselves as an on-airport operation, they pushed hard for me to take their expensive full-cover option. I refused. They took the 1000 euro deposit as a purchase on my creditcard, nit the temporary hold the paperwork said it would be. Then they demanded 12 euros extra, described as a company tax, because I would drive the car outside Sofia. The booking voucher said all taxes and fees included so I queried this and called the hrlpdesk as the staff member couldn't explain why I had to pay this. While I was on the phone to the helpdedk Wheego cancelled the booking. Outrageous!!
They still haven't returned the deposit, they say it has to be done by bank transfer not as a refund on the credit card, they didn't give me a car but they have kept the rental fee.
I've never had this level of agro with a carhire company. Do yourself a favour and use someone else with an office and cars actually in the airport. This company should NOT be used by Ryanair, booking.com or other large agents, their business model is fraud.
Smooth and easy rental experience at Manchester airport, walking distance to the terminal (there is also a shuttle), super smooth return process, just gave the key to a guy standing in the car park and got refund on my deposit within a couple of hours, great pricing, would definitely use again.
It would be zero stars -they were absolutely rubbish and ripped us off. Do not book care hire from these people!
I collected the car in the rain. Was told to take pictures of any damage but as the car was wet couldn’t see any. When returned they found two small scratches and debited my card for €900. I was told they would assess the cost and revert ensuring I received the difference back. I am convinced there was no damage!
4 weeks later I have not heard back from them and am chasing to no avail. Interestingly I had ordered a second car from them on the day I dropped off the first one( probably a bit silly but I needed a car and still thought I would get the bulk of my €900 back). Anyway we videod the new car and when we returned it surprise surprise they said there was new damage. The video proved them wrong. So if you do decide to hire a car from them (I won’t ) please please thoroughly video the car and stand your ground as it is all a big con!
Worst car rental ever (Catania airport) - Intransparent charges and questionable extra fees
Unfortunately, my rental experience was affected by several non-transparent and difficult-to-justify additional charges.
A shortened rental period (early return) was treated as a “rental modification” and charged at approximately €29 (gross). Charging a fee for returning a vehicle earlier than agreed is hard to justify.
In addition, a prepaid cleaning fee of €15 was applied, with the argument that otherwise up to €29 could be charged if the car required cleaning before the next rental. This appears unreasonable, as normal usage should already be covered by the rental price.
Most concerning is a €99 “deposit for traffic fines”, which was withheld for up to 6 months. This condition was not clearly disclosed in the brokerage agreement. Holding a customer’s money for such a long period without transparent contractual basis is highly problematic.
Instead of the booked category (e.g. Citroën C3), a Fiat Panda was provided.
While this may formally fit the same category (ECMR), the Panda represents a significantly lower level of comfort and quality compared to typical vehicles in this group.
This creates the impression of a downgrade within the same category.
The car was handed over with 7/8 of a tank, which was confirmed to us. However, the rental company later insisted it had to be returned full, claiming this was an error. To avoid further discussion, we returned the car with a full tank.
Overall, the pricing structure gives the impression of a business model relying heavily on add-on fees, with key cost elements not sufficiently transparent.
Conclusion: In my view, not trustworthy. I cannot recommend this provider.
Update 07.04.2026: The deposit is still blocked on my credit card. This is not acceptable.
We booked a car for Alicante airport. We were advised that we would be collected in 15 mins. After a 25 minute wait, a vehicle arrived to collect us alongside a lady, with a small child and a dog. She had been waiting 40 minutes & had phoned a number of times asking for an update. She had been lied to by the person who answered the phone. They continually misinformed her that the vehicle was on the way, the vehicle was ten minuets away etc. The child was crying and the lady said she could have managed this better if she had been told how long she needed to wait.
When we arrived at the office, she spoke with an employee, whom I now know was called Adrian, who was rude and aggressive with her. He was the person she spoke with on the phone. He made no apology and denied that he had mislead the lady. She left vowing never to use Wheego again.
We were initially dealing with the staff member who collected us from the airport. We were not offered the vehicle we booked, but were offered an inferior vehicle. We were advised this was all that was available. We were told there would be a 90 to 160 euro charge for fuel. When the vehicle was returned, 130 euro would be refunded. We queried why 30 euro would be deducted. Adrian butted into the conversation and began talking over his colleague and my partner. He said the 30 euro was a refuelling charge, we should read the contract, we didn't know what we were talking about, it was nothing to do with Wheego, they are just the provider and our reservation was with DoyouSpain.
His lines were well rehearsed. He has clearly tried to confuse & belittle people with this speech before. We asked again what the 30 euro related to and were again told it was a refuelling charge. Why we would pay a refuelling charge when we are refuelling the vehicle? Adrian repeated his well rehearsed speech.
He mentioned part of the issue related to an option we had selected online, and we had chosen full to empty rather than full to full. We asked if it was possible for us to now select the full to full basis.
At this point he became very accommodating. We could cancel our booking with DoyouSpain. We could rent directly from Wheego. The refuelling charge, and the 160 euro would be waived. Instead we would have to purchase a 35 euro insurance policy.
We felt we were being ripped off. If we cancelled we would lose the money already paid to DoyouSpain. Options were to swallow the 160 euro fuel charge, accepting 30 euro would be deducted despite us refuelling the vehicle ourselves, or accept the additional 35 euro insurance charge. What the insurance was for was not made clear by Adrian.
We opted for the 35 euro insurance. I went outside to photograph the vehicle. Not an easy task given that there is little to no light in the car park. I am now querying if this is part of their deliberate mis selling practices.
After a few minutes my partner called me back into the office. Adrian was now saying the cost of the insurance was not 35 euros in total, but 35 euros per day of hire. Different, and significantly more expensive than what he had said to us initially. Adrian asked me if I thought the amount we had paid to DoyouSpain was a reasonable amount to pay for car hire. I asked him the relevance of the amount we had paid online to the service he was providing? He was clearly implying that we had got the hire too cheap, and that he therefore felt we owed him more money, which he was prepared to obtain by ripping us off via a fictional refuelling charge or an unnecessary insurance policy.
We lost all trust and confidence in Wheego and Adrian. We decided to leave, and requested a lift back to the airport. We were forced to make alternative travel arrangements to our destination. Given how late at night it was, and the short notice for transport, this was much more expensive than we had anticipated. However, it was still less than the amount that Adrian tried to rip us off for.
Ignore all positive reviews. They are literally all fake. Absolute scam artists. They lure you in with initially cheaper rental fees and by claiming to be at Salzburg Airport, but once you land, you realise they aren't even on-site. They then force money out of you in so many ways. For me they refused four types of credit cards and said if you use Apple Pay or a debit card we’ll charge you €99 charge….. One guy next to me had to pay over €50 a day as he had a UK drivers licence. To top it off, they forged my signature on a document to hold my deposit for 6 months for "fines" I don't even have. They will hold and steal your money in ways you’ll never see coming.
STAY AWAY
And for those working at this sham of a company. Go and find a decent honest job. You are ruining people’s lives every single day.
If I could give zero stars I would.
I was charged an additional fee of €108 (the car rental quote was €86) for being over 70 ( my age was specifically disclosed to the broker when I booked). The staff made no attempt to clear up this difference - basically their attitude was “pay up or no car ( and forfeit the money paid on booking )”.
I scratched the car. The standard cost for a complete respray is around €500. They produced an estimate of twice that and (conveniently for them) exactly equal to my credit card deposit.
Their charges were confusing on collection. They charged a mysterious admin fee of €99.99 after I returned the car.
I have secondary insurance so I am personally covered for the repair charge - but this appears to be a company without ethics who will extort money where they can. I would advise you to avoid them at all costs.
577 Added After Return ,No Response, No Accountability
I am absolutely shocked that this could happen in 2026.
My son rented a car in Manchester and paid the full agreed amount at the time of booking. We have the confirmation email, the breakdown of daily charges, and proof of payment. Everything was clear.
The day after he returned the vehicle, he received a new invoice for an additional €577 labelled as a “Luxury Bundle.” This was never requested, never explained, and never knowingly agreed to.
The signature shown on their paperwork does not resemble my son’s signature.
We disputed the charge through Avant Money. The amount was temporarily credited back to us, but the chargeback was later reversed after the rental company rejected it. We are now left paying €577 for something that was never properly authorised.
What makes this even worse is the complete lack of proper communication.
Emails go unanswered. On Trustpilot, the company posts generic replies telling customers to “contact us directly,” but when you actually try to contact them, they do not respond.
When I attempted to contact the Manchester branch directly, I was met with extremely rude and hostile behaviour. The attitude was dismissive and volatile. It was incredibly upsetting to deal with.
We have all documentation, screenshots, receipts, and correspondence to support everything stated here.
This has caused significant stress and financial loss. I genuinely cannot believe that a customer can be charged €577 after returning a car, for something they did not knowingly agree to, and then be ignored when trying to resolve it.
Please be extremely careful. Check every document thoroughly, question every add-on, and monitor your bank account after returning the vehicle.
Based on our experience, I would not recommend this company.
Also I would like to add that they will comment under a review stating for you to contact them !! Again don’t waste your time because this is just for the company to try to look good .They are definitely doing this on a daily basis and I will not rest until I bring this to light and get my money back
And yet AGAIN another reply on this without answering ANY EMAILS!!!!
This company needs to be throughly investigated as I firmly believe they are breaking the law ..It paints a very bad picture for rental companies
Do THE RIGHT THING AND REFUND MY MONEY

My experience with Wheego Car Rental has been absolutely terrible. This company operates in a way that feels like a complete scam.
After returning the car, they suddenly claimed there was a “scratch” and charged me over €1,000 for what appears to be a superficial or even non-existent damage. The alleged damage was never clearly demonstrated and the charge is completely disproportionate.
To make matters worse, they do not respond to emails or provide any proper explanation or documentation to justify these charges. Customer service is practically non-existent once they have your money.
It honestly feels like their business model is to trap customers with excessive damage claims after the rental. I have since discovered that many other customers report the exact same experience.
If you value transparency and fair treatment, stay far away from Wheego. There are many reputable rental companies out there - this is not one of them.

I was served by Ritz when renting a car from Manchester Airport. He was very helpful and efficient. It made the process very easy and enjoyable. Look forward to my next rental from Wheego. John B

careful renting from Wheego Mobility at Frankfurt Airport.
After returning the vehicle I was charged a 900€ deposit. Only 438.84€ were returned while 461.16€ were retained for minor wheel rim scratches.
No repair invoice, no cost breakdown and no response to multiple emails for more than a month.
A chargeback procedure has now been initiated through my bank and a complaint has been filed with the European Consumer Centre.
Very disappointing experience.

Wheego Malaga is just a scam : they don't tell you that you need to take a shuttle to collect the car when you do the online booking. Also when you pick up the car outside the airport they try to scam you with non announced insurance price for the second driver. The employee dont respect customers and has made our reservation impossible and we went for another honest company.
