Beware of import duty buying from abroad

I bought a reel to hold a swimming pool cover. The item is manufactured in Canada and not available in the UK; its good because you can fix it to the pool.
I ordered it together with a tune up kit for a pool cleaner. I expected the three items (tune up kit, reel supports and reel pole) to be delivered together. Only one came and it took many emails and transatlantic calls before the other items came.
On an order of £1000, there was £200 import duty which had not been advertised on the web page. Because it was sent in three shipments with the same £1000 invoice, I have been asked for a further £400 of payment from DHL. I have spent hours on the phone to DHL, but when they sent in the debt collectors, I decided to pay. So items priced at £1000 have cost me £1600 and hours of misery on the phone. Both DHL and wild west pools have been very unhelpful and incompetent.

Poor Customer Service

The part I ordered from their website was no longer available. But, a part $10 more expensive was. (Hmmh...)

Each time you order from their website you have to be careful to unclick the extra $1 fee for tracking your shipment. (It's checked by default as a "courtesy" to the customer.) This is just a sneaky way of nickel and diming the public.

Customer service neglected responding to my emails on two occasions. I had to follow-up both times.

It's no wonder there isn't a way to submit Google reviews for this company. Shady practices through and through...

Hello; if the part you ordered is no longer available, we will certainly do everything we can to find one that IS, and give you the option to purchase it (or be refunded). That is a courtesy we are proud to provide our customers.

As for the package insurance, we do not control how USPS/FedEx/etc handles your goods once an item has been picked up. Our insurance is a very inexpensive method to add an extra layer of protection for your shipment.

We do apologize for the slight delayed response in response to your customer service emails; we do our very best to stay on top of our inbound requests in as timely a fashion as possible.

I found this company via Google search

I found this company via Google search, and the filters I needed in a hurry were shown as in stock and for sale in UK pounds.
One I placed the order I found out that the filters were being shipped from America.. i did state that had I been told this I wouldn't have placed an order. Anyway I paid customs duty and tax for £200.00. Only to recieve half of the order. I contacted wild west pools via email, and I was told that the order was split into two boxes and that the other box will be sent by a different shipping company. Alarm bells for me as I'm pretty sure I will get hit with another invoice for customs, taxes etc. I stated that I wish to cancel the second package as I felt that I had been misinformed and the time of delivery was too long for me running a commercial pool to wait.
I was told that the order had left.
When I questioned this as I wanted proof, I was told they would not give the information...
I am now in a situation where I will be looking at legal advise to hopefully recoup my money.
At the end of the day I ordered a product of which I had good reason from the marketing on the website that led me to believe that I was buying from a UK company selling goods in UK pounds..
I was so wrong and duped.
I will be more careful in future.
Waste of time and my money.

CON ARTISTS

Needed a part ASAP and they offered Expedited Delivery. I paid twice as much for the delivery than the part. For what I paid they should have sent it over night, instead they took the money and sent it snail mail scheduled to arrive 6 days after order date. This has caused me a ton of grief. They took the money and did the exact opposite. DO NOT BUY FROM THESE CON ARTISTS…

UPDATE: As you can see from Mark’s response the lying continues. This item was about the size and probably close to the weight of a hummingbird but he claims it would cost 3 times what I paid for shipping. I checked with USPS and that item would be $27 to overnight it (I already paid $20 to expedite it) NOT the $60 he’s claiming and I would have gladly paid that. So the lying continues, it’s just an excuse for poor management and deceptive practices.
This delivery was CRITICALLY time sensitive but they blew that to pieces, which in turn has caused me great turmoil on my end.
I fully stand by my original statement, DO NOT BUY FROM THESE CON ARTISTS…
OH and Mark, you can keep the additional $10 you stole from me, it sounds like you need the money more than me…

2nd UPDATE: Mark, You just don’t get it do you? To be clear, I never asked for overnight delivery, in fact 2, 3 or 4 day delivery would have been just fine and certainly would have cost a lot less than the $20 you charged. The FACT is that you DO offer ‘expedited delivery’ at additional cost certainly implies faster than normal delivery which would certainly fit in the 2 to 4 day delivery window, especially for such a small and lightweight part, instead your company charged double and still sent it by snail mail, that’s theft.
I ordered approximately noon on Tuesday and it was critical to arrive no later than Saturday night, that should have been plenty of time for your company to fulfill the ‘expedited delivery’ that your company offers, again I never expected overnight delivery.
I know this is hard for you to understand but it’s now scheduled for Monday, which makes this part completely useless to me and this whole ordeal was a waste of time at my expense.
Saying “we’re a small company” is not an excuse for deceptive practices. Odd how companies as big as Amazon can fulfill delivery in 1 to 2 days for millions of items using the same delivery services available to you, I would have used them but they did not have this specific part.
If you really wanted to make this right you could have offered overnight delivery at my expense for a replacement part but that never occurred to you, did it? Instead, you’re just dancing around the fact that you’re wrong on all counts but you can’t admit it.
If people are reading this string and you’ve made it this far, do yourself a favor and avoid buying from this company, I wish I did…

2nd Edit: we do NOT, nor have we ever, guaranteed delivery times. If it was that critical, perhaps you should have purchased from a store that actually offers overnight shipping?

Again, I'm sorry the package will be arriving a few days late, but insinuating that we even did anything procedurally wrong here (we didn't), much less the name calling, is ridiculous. A (short) shipping delay occurred, for which I apologize.

Hi Stephen, Mark the owner here -- I apologize we were not able to deliver this within our typical expedited window (2-3 days). We've inconvenienced you, and for that I truly am sorry.

That said, we did process your order using an expedited shipping class, and I (unfortunately) have zero control over their operations once a package is picked up. To overnight your order would have cost 3x what you paid for shipping — that's why we don't offer it as an option.

While we do not guarantee shipping timeframes with any shipping option, my support team will be refunding your expedited shipping cost as a small means of apology.

I do not however feel it was necessary to call us con artists. We're a small business that makes mistakes like everyone, and try to make up for it when we do. I wish you all the best.

Waste of time

Ordered a fitting for $15 and paid $19.99 for 2 day shipping on 7/7 When I saw it wasn't shipped by 7/9 I cancelled. They responded wanting to make sure I wanted to cancel on 7/10. I immediately responded to the email on 7/10 saying yes, cancel.
On 7/12 I got an email saying a shipping label was created. I emailed again saying it was cancelled.
The never responded and shipped it on 7/18. It finally arrived on 7/26 and I refused the shipment.
They would not refund until it arrived back at warehouse, awas finally refunded 8/6... almost a full month of nonsense on a part I paid for expedited shipping. Never again

bought a power supply for my dolphin…

bought a power supply for my dolphin pool cleaned, was advertised as NEW --Received the unit and 2 of the control did not work! installed the unit and after 7 days the complete unit quit working, Now these people want a video of it not working and a picture of the box it can in on all 4 sides. are you kidding me???

It is standard procedure with every manufacturer we work with to obtain pictures and videos when a damage claim is filed. We have never received push back from a customer on this point.

Selling product on their website they…

Selling product on their website they dont have and cant get anymore . Then after you for the product they send emails say they cant get and want to sell you something else at a higher price. Over a week and still not not received my money back.

Very occasionally our system won't pull a product down quick enough when we see it go out of stock, and an order or two will slip through. This happens with less than 1% of our orders.

Damaged part unable to return

My order arrived damaged. I notified them of the damage and requested a replacement. Over 2-3 days requested pictures of damaged part and then day later 6 pictures of undamaged box. I thought a replacement part for my pool was being sent; only after asking for a delivery date did I learn they were trying to blame issue on shipper and will not send me a new part unless shipper reimbursed them. Meanwhile I have to wait while shipper and Wild West Point fingers

Great Company

The company shipped the correct items very quickly. I am very grateful for this. Unfortunately, one of the items was defective. A warranty claim was established immediately but it took a while to obtain approval from Hayward. Once the approval was obtained, the replacement part was shipped immediately. All companies are having parts distribution issues. If they offer me a substitute, it is up to me to decided whether to accept or decline. I feel Wild West Pool Supplies is a great company. I will use them again.
