People frequently struggled with unhelpful customer support, extremely long phone wait times, and automated bots that made it very difficult to connect with a real person. Customers also experienced very frustrating delays, unexpected claim rejections, and poor communication when attempting to resolve ongoing problems regarding their insurance policies. This is the worst ripoff in history…

This is the worst ripoff in history charged an 81 year old woman nearly $1700 insurance for a car only worth $1500. I was told I had to understand their point of view . I expected them to at least reduce it to a common sense level but no they didn’t . Loyalty is not a factor with this company

Avoid AAMI.

My claims experience was extremely disappointing and added enormous stress during one of the most difficult periods of my life.

I repeatedly advised AAMI that I was undergoing active chemotherapy for cancer and relied on my vehicle to attend treatment and medical appointments. Despite repeatedly asking about my options, I was never clearly informed that, if my vehicle was declared a total loss, it would be immediately written off, deregistered and that I would lose the ability to continue driving it. I was led to believe there would be further discussion before any irreversible action was taken.

Instead, I was later told my vehicle had already been deregistered. It came as a complete shock. I was left without the vehicle I depended on during cancer treatment and placed in the extremely difficult position of having to replace it while undergoing chemotherapy and with no employment income.

Communication between all departments was inconsistent and confusing. I was repeatedly referred between the assessor, the total loss team and other staff without receiving clear answers.

I ultimately had to lodge a complaint with AFCA before AAMI made an additional $5,000 ex gratia settlement offer to resolve the complaint.

Based on my experience, I strongly recommend avoiding AAMI and choosing an insurer that values clear communication, transparency and fair treatment of its customers.

A company I would totally stay away…

A company I would totally stay away from. They gave out all my personal information to a third party. I was lucky the third party alerted me to the issues.
So as a sorry for doing this they gave me a $100 gift card.
This is a breach of my privacy and you as a company shared this.
Good one AAMI...

worse comprehensive car insurer

My daughter’s claim with AAMI has been handled poorly from the start.

Even though SAPOL confirmed the rider of the motorbike that hit her parked car could not be identified due to non‑cooperation by the occupants of the offending property.

AAMI still applied the excess anyway, and wouldnt allow a loan car when being repaired, despite this being a textbook case of third‑party non cooperation she is being treated at fault.

AAMI contacted me via phone without authorisation about her claim, then later refused to respond to witness information on the basis of privacy.

Multiple follow ups were required just to receive basic acknowledgement, over a 2-3 month period.

The process has been slow, inconsistent, and procedurally flawed. AAMI has not demonstrated fairness or accountability at any stage.

AAMI are fraudulent & dishonest

20+ year customer, never experienced any problem with AAMI. However, this changed when they tried to charge me for extensive damage I did not do to another vehicle. They then backtracked after trying to defraud me & then refused to negotiate a fair cost for buffing off a small paint smudge (no dents/no other damage). AAMI & their service partners are dishonest, use fraudulent practices & have no integrity. Call after call & demand after demand on "damage" that should never have been an insurance claim to start with. As a long term customer this kind of business practice is the best way to lose loyal & actually honest clientele. I have taken my business elsewhere & will never deal with them again. Not only this, but while in active dispute with them they were still harassing me to reinsure my car with them. Not a chance. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

This company abuses disabled people

This company abuses disabled people.
A car crashed into my house.
Then AAMI damaged my property, then employed an engineer named Luke Tymenson from HardCore Geotech to trespass on my property and falsify a report to cancel my claim. Then when I said I would go to the police.
My claims manager emailed me directly threatening to make me homeless.
They did all this knowing I am Autisitic with Ptsd. And knowing I have an active TAC claim for trauma. They caused another mental health injury and stopped be from getting a new job.
Do not use AAMI or any insurance under thr AAI insurance umbrella.

No value for loyalty. I was with AAMI from last 15 odd years with different insurance car, home etc. But one time I made a claim. And they use all type of clause to not pay for it.

We recently made an accidental damage…

We recently made an accidental damage claim to vanity ceramic top. To speed up the claim we managed to get a builder to quote the repair and submitted the quite to AAMI. AAMI wanted to get their own contractor out to quote the repair. AAMi com back with half the price of what the builder quoted but did no allow for any of the additional work that needed to be done like tile removal. AAMI said the tiles are not broken so that would be an additional quote if broken. With a month of emails and phone calls we did settle on the builder quote which allowed the full repair properly. It should not be a political affair to make a claim just repair it properly not the cheapest quote that needed more quoting to complete the job.

I had 3 x cars comprehensively Insured…

I had 3 x cars comprehensively Insured with aami, now down to one and soon zero.

They even manage to screw up on a small claim with what it seems utterly poor communication and mistakes on their end on multiple occasions.

If I could put a negative star rating i would. If you're thinking of contacting the internal dispute resolution, it's even worse .

How you can fumble 3 x policies to 0 when I wasn't even looking to change Insurers is next level.

I assume call centres are offshore and the elevated response are people working from home eating muffins.

AAMI = Nightmare

HAVING MY CAR STOLEN WAS BAD - Dealing with AAMI was WORSE. After my RAV4 was stolen, I felt like I was treated as the suspect: a private investigator came to my home, I was asked for highly intrusive personal records including bank and phone records, and my car sat in a towing yard for around 40 days while I was shuffled between departments. The most disturbing part was the contamination testing. AAMI initially relied on a meth/ice test result that was treated as “safe,” despite my repeated concerns that the testing had not been done on the highest-contact areas - including where a child sits in the front seat, right beside the steering wheel, gearshift and other touch points. Those areas were initially refused for further testing. After I kept pushing Sharps Australia (contracted by AAMI), a second test was finally done. The car was then deemed an unsafe biohazard requiring full specialised decontamination. How many customers would have accepted the first “safe” result and put their family back into that vehicle? How many families have put their kids into unsafe cars? I suspect many. You have been warned.

Stolen vehicle leaves bad taste.

My Daughter had her car stolen in early June. It was found by police who suspected it was being used in another crime by persons known to them. The car had been badly damaged and was under Assessment by AAMI. As of today, some three weeks later, my daughter was advised the car would probably not be available until late August. As my daughter runs a business her car was essential but AAMI only provided a loan vehicle for two weeks. Their attitude towards my Daughter was deplorable, being treated more like a criminal than those thugs who wrecked her car. In this case she was unlucky to insure with AAMI.

Long delay and bad processes

I have home insurance with AAMI and they are the worst in terms of communication and progressing through the repair with their sub-contractor. I am now 15+ months since the start of the claim and the repairs have barely started. Most of the time has been wasted with their internal processes to get statement of work drafted and approved, then few months later a variation to the scope added another few months of process. I will definitely not renew with them and take my business elsewhere.

A one-star review is a compliment.

A one-star review is a compliment.

My car was destroyed in an arson attack alongside another vehicle. I have video evidence of the incident and had absolutely nothing to do with it. It was an incredibly traumatic experience.

The owner of the other vehicle, who is insured with a different company, had their car towed, their claim settled, and was driving away in a brand-new replacement vehicle within four days.

Meanwhile, I’m still waiting to hear what AAMI plans to do with my car. The only clear communication I’ve received is that the process could take up to two weeks.

What frustrates me most isn’t just the delay, it’s the complete lack of communication and compassion. I haven’t received a single phone call or email checking in, explaining what’s happening, or providing any meaningful update. After going through something as stressful as having your car deliberately set on fire, you would expect a little more urgency and care from your insurer.

I’ll be moving to another insurance company after this experience. The way AAMI has handled my claim has added unnecessary stress to an already traumatic situation.

Don't trust them for contents' insurance.

Really disappointed with AAMI insurance. I took out contents' insurance, in part to cover my desk-top computer. When I accidently dropped it a few months later, AAMI denied I had asked for my computer to be covered. I said I wanted to hear the phone conversation. AAMI made the process for this impossible.
I'm a nurse, AAMI is an insurance company - who do you think is lying?

Yeah just don’t

Yeah just don’t. Go elsewhere for your comprehensive car insurance if you want a fair deal and a quality repair. AAMI take your excess before even determining a repairer and then they try and corner you in to a cheap and nasty patch repair. Their website suggests they’ll sort a quality repair back to factory specifications. That is the most egregious and dishonest statement. They’re crooks and deviants. Take your money somehow else, for your own sake.

If I could give -100 I would

If I could give -100 I would. Had my car stolen and one week later the highway patrol found the car. The police towed it and taken fingerprints. AAMI launched an investigation into me requesting all kinds of paperwork. Even appointed an external investigator. Had to have a record interview. Had to provide bank statements, phone records, RWC, and a lot of other documents. One question is why would one break a window, still their own car for one week and have to pay the insurance company $1800 excess? What’s the point of the? What benefits do I get out of this? I would never buy insurance from AAMI, Suncorp and AAI limited again. I would check and make sure the insurance company I buy from would not contain Suncorp as I know own many insurance companies. Now 5 week and still investigating. No sign of it ending and no car. What a joke!
