Abacus Vehicle Hire Reviews 

Poor experience so far. Long queues and vehicles being prepared in random order, some people waiting for ages and others just come in and go.

Michelle and her team at Ferndown were on hand to solve my last second storage issues, helpful, friendly and fab customer service. It is really great to say such an enthusiastic team that really care and enjoy their work. Would definately recommended them!

So I hired a car on a long term hire from abacus paying 270 pounds a week I paid this on time ever time except twice one was a day late ! And the other was also going to be late as I suffered an aneurysm which caused a mini stroke ! Whilst I was at hospital abacus bullied there way to my house and collected the car keeping all of my deposit and charged me recovery ! My boss answered the phone and offered to pay but they didn't want to know !!

They were rude threatening and abusive and have stolen my deposit and took further funds out of my account!

I had a medical emergency and they took the car !!! Do not hire from this bully style company !

I found Abacus to be very polite when face to face, however over the phone they are not so accommodating.

Abacus overbooked on a vehicle and informed us two days before our trip, we were then offered a different vehicle but at no discount for their mistake, no extra Milage was offered either.

We also booked online the free day before pickup but on confirming a time to collect I was told I had to ring them up to get this, so why place it online.

I then unfortunately returned the vehicle 4hours late on a Sunday when they are closed but got charged 20% of the daily rate for every hour I was late and then a further 75pounds for fuel costs even though I returned the vehicle with a quarter tank and only received it 3quarter's full.

I will never use Abacus again and would definitely not recommend Abacus to a friend or family member.

Awful, awful company! Do not use!
I was overcharged for fuel on returning the vehicle, which seems to be the norm for this company after reading other reviews.
I challenged the charges and was told that I didn’t add enough fuel. Unfortunately as I was in such I rush I didn’t think to take pictures. After explaining that the charges were far too much considering what fuel was in the tank I was advised the manager would ring me, what a complete joke he was. I was met with a petty, obnoxious attitude that I wouldn’t expect from a child let alone a grown man!
To make matters worse we had the van booked until 8.30am and I had this same ‘manager’ ringing me at 7.40am asking where then van was, pressuring me to have it back on the lot because in his words ‘I told you we had this van booked out first thing’ and ‘I told you to key drop last night’. I did not agree to this, I was told that was an option and said i would keep that in mind, so upon receiving this phone call I was confused and advised the time slot i paid for. He denied this conversation of course and said he was not adding extra pressure. However like a mug, I did get the van back early to help them out, only to be greeted with the same bad attitude and a huge charge!!!
A complete rip off, they clearly make their money on all the extra charges!

First time hire from this company.
I was overcharged over £100 for additional mileage and fuel for a one day hire.
Luckily, I took pictures of the clocks before and after use and got it refunded. Abacus did offer a 20% discount on a further hire and the mileage completely cleared which was a nice gesture.
My advice is to take a picture of the clocks clearly showing mileage and fuel level before leaving the depot and on return to the depot.
Additionally if possible take a video of the vehicle before and after of the exterior and interior so there is no dispute over damages as the sheet they provide is very open to interpretation.
Also ensure the figures shown on the sheet you're given are correct i.e. mileage, fuel level, existing damage etc.
On a lighter note, the vehicle was very nice being almost brand new, the staff were very helpful and the depot is very new, I think I just had a bad experience.

Very poor. I returned to my car after hiring a van to find serious damage to the bumper and rear quarter panel. The truck parked next to me was left very close to my car and it was clear that the lack of room to manoeuvre into the space had meant that the sharp edge on the tail lift had peeled my bumper and caused deep scratches to the rear quarter. The way i was dealt with by Abacus staff was the worst customer experience i have ever had. Sadly because the contact was not caught on CCTV they wriggled out of the liability of this damage, when it is so clear what had happened. I was reminded on numerous occasions that 'vehicles are left at own risk' - True! But when 4 vehicles occupied the space over the course of the hire, 2 had bumpers, which no way could have caused this damage, and the other 2 were trucks with tail lifts and Abacus written on them...i don't need to spell this out do i. It got better when i was asked to prove the damage was not already there. What a great Company.

ABACUS CAR VAN & TRUCK RENTAL Ferndown. Just had a rather unpleasant experience with one of the 'owners' of this company, who has no right to, but had parked in private residents parking alongside my property. I explained to this individual that the No Parking signage was there for good reason - an external wall requiring underpinning - so obviously dangerous to park a car inches away from the wall! The response I received was very rude, sarcastic, argumentative and entirely unprofessional. Needles to say I shall not be using this companies services EVER in the future, or suggesting anyone I know does either.
