My order number is 741512582
My order number is 741512582. I order the book in November 2024 but still not yet received until now. I sent few emails to ask for refund but sure no answer.
AbeBooks Customer for 20 Years
I have been ordering books from AbeBooks for over twenty years and I never had a single issue with either their service, delivery times, or the quality of the books that are sent.
BEWARE
BEWARE - DO NOT SHOP HERE. Terrible company - tried to order a couple books and when ordering I got a “card declined” message, but my credit card was charged. I tried to contact the company but there is no access to “contact us” phone or email.
Just Awful
I bought a book from one of AbeBooks' sellers and then a companion book from another of their sellers, paying double the market price of the book by the time shipping was included. I got a message the next day that the out of print book wasn't actually available. AbeBooks customer service has been atrocious with them making no substantive effort to fix their problem. The last round of emails from their CSRs are openly taunting. Now I don't have the book I wanted, paid double the market rate for a companion book and have wasted a week of my life trying to get this company to meet their obligation. Awful, just awful.
I've ordered from AbeBooks in the past…
I've ordered from AbeBooks in the past and always have been satisfied. It's been a couple of years, though, and as a Christmas gift I purchased an out of print book. I ordered it on December 6th, it didn't ship until December 10th and here it is the 26th and no sign of it being "out for delivery" on tracking. From now on I won't be purchasing anything online that doesn't have an actual customer service I can CALL!
It's now the 27th and still no book!
Run from ABE Books!!!!
Run from ABE Books!!!!
I found a book that for years I had been looking so I decided to take a chance. Book has not been delivered and customer service is non existent. The seller also disappeared from the book site.
Waste of money and time. Better to have flushed money down the toilet than to have spent it on this company and its sellers.
Once upon a time AbeBooks was a great…
Once upon a time AbeBooks was a great place to get used and new books at a great price. Today, December 2024 they are an absolute fiasco to do business with. I bought a couple of books to be shipped to friends and it’s taken nearly two months to get the books as the shipping keeps gets screwed up. The customer service is a joke. You ask a simple question and never get an answer. I can’t imagine them being in business 10 years from now if they continue such awful customer service.
Terrible service
Terrible service! They make it impossible to contact them. I purchased a book and was told the seller would contact me for payment. They contacted me at 9:30 at nite and by 7:30 am the next day, they had cancelled the order. Last month I didn't even get my order and couldn't get anyone to help me. Never again. I will go to Thriftbooks or even amazon before I buy through Abebooks.
Very bad experience
Very bad experience! I placed an order 3 months ago (2 books), paid and waited, waited, waited... but the books never arrived. I contacted the seller 3 times and received no response. Contacting the company is impossible! You can't even submit a form or attach a file. The only thing we get - error! I said goodbye to my money... It would be a good idea to make the contact process easier, as it seems like they don't want to be contacted.
False representation of item condition
I ordered a book in Fine condition from seller Ergodebooks. What I received was an item missing the jacket, with a damaged hardcover and a binding barely holding it together. After days of arguing by email with support all I got is a lousy 30% discount on item price, which doesn't cover the price difference of actually ordering a worn copy. How is that seller even 5 stars? Whole platform is sketchy.
No customer support
One of their sellers shipped me the wrong book, but Abe’s return policy requires me to ship it back to them at my cost before I could get a refund. I get making me foot the bill if you shipped the correct book and I just changed my mind- but shipping a completely unrelated book and then wanting me to pay for the return cost is not acceptable. I had to dispute the charge with my cc company- so beware, Abebooks does not care about its customers
Horrible
Horrible. I ordered a vintage Spanish-language comic book as a gift for a collector; they sent me Disney's 'Frozen' in English. I contacted them about the problem, they took a week to reply and asked me for a photo of the item I received. Sent photo, no reply. I contacted them again and got instructions for a return that did not include a return address. By the time I would get a reply about this, I'd be beyond the 30-day return window, so I decided just to donate it to a holiday gift drive rather than waste any more money on this operation. I definitely got the impression they are not eager to facilitate returns, even in instances of seller error. DO NOT RECOMMEND. I will not be placing any more orders with these guys.
Absolute joke
Absolute joke. Bought a book. Never arrived. Incorrect tracking information and sent 2 emails and neither have had a reply. Still no book. No refund. Set of thieves. Beware.
I ordered a book from Abe books
I ordered a book from Abe books. When it didn't arrive I contacted them and they said they would send me another copy. When that didn't arrive I contacted them again and was told the book was out of stock. I checked bookfinder.com and found Abe was selling several copies of the book, one at only slightly more than I had originally paid.
I have purchased books from abe.com for…
I have purchased books from abe.com for years; however, recently there have been multiple problems with sellers, and no means to address concerns. (e.g. a recent book listed as “Fine” was far from that condition (No dust jacket, bent corners as if the book had been dropped, etc.). The company Ergodebooks initially denied their listing information, then when I provided the original listing, they offered a 20% discount, and then failed to provide it. I won’t use abe.com going forward. No reliable accountability mechanism for neither the seller, nor for abe.com
untrustworthy.
I have bought dozens of books through abebooks but I recently never received a book from a seller, Goodwill of San Antonio, that did not respond to emails requesting a refund. Abebooks notified them of my request then they cancelled my refund request themselves and now I have neither the book nor a refund. Don't do business with a company you can't trust who allows a book seller to rob you.
I've been using them for years and…
I've been using them for years and every experience has been very good. Absolutely no complaints and I recommend them to my friends.
A bit better than I expected from all the reviews given here
I bought from two sellers. 1 book from Simpy Read Books and 2 from Bahmut Media. I knew from the very low prices and the sellers' descriptions that they would be in, let's say, good rather than excellent. But that suited me. They were published in the 1970s and were described as ex-library with all that comes with that. I ordered on Monday and received the books on Friday - very good considering postage was included in the low price. I'm happy with the 2 from Bahmut. The 1 hardback from Simply Read is OK but I didn't expect the spine to be falling apart - open it at p.145 and it looks like someone has bent the book beyond flat and there is now a gap all the way down showing the stitching. If it had been a paperback the parts would probably have separated altogether. But it's still usable for my purposes.
I haven't used Abebooks for a long time and judging by all the one star reviews I see it's probably suffering from the `kiss of death' (being taken over by Amazon). It was once an excellent place to buy used books.
Unreliable
I bought some books on Abebooks, but decided to cancel one of the orders with one of the sellers Books Unplugged.I know that I pressed cancel, but Abebooks processed the order anyway. When I checked my email for confirmation that the order to Books Unplugged had been canceled it wasn't there. I did contact Abebooks about the situation but they never responded. They are supposed to respond after 24 hours. When two days later I still hadn't heard from them I contacted Abebooks again but they never responded. I messaged Books Unplugged and they refused to take the book back. Abebooks is responsible for processing the order instead of canceling it. Both Abebooks and Books Unplugged put profit ahead of their customers satisfaction. They have a narrow focus on the bottom line. With things getting more and more expensive hopefully it will prove unprofitable for Books Unplugged to continue to sell on Abebooks or any other similar sites. Something has come to my attention, the unfortunate and all to common practice of bookjacking, which is described in zubal.com list of bootjackers. It's involved but essentially involves scanning books from book stores and other sources, then writing up descriptions and jacking up the price. Books Unplugged and Book Deals being two sellers I've bought from that are listed. I suggest that anyone buying from Abebooks or Amazon etc. read the article. Bookjacking is deceptive and unethical and should be illegal.
Beware of customer service
I searched for a book, Door Bell, a Childs book with a working doorbell. I found one listed New and purchased to give to my grandchild. I contacted them to make sure the battery was working. The doorbell is what makes the book unique. They quickly shipped book before responding to me only to find out doorbell doesn't work. Now will not accept return.
Note: I purchased book from Chamblin Bookmine in used condition for far less money and when I contacted them that the doorbell didn't work, not only did they offer a refund but were willing to search all their venders to find the book in working condition.
