Just tried getting some help for an elderly friend using their "helpline". All I got was a 25-minute wait with messages trying to sell me products. Never spoke to an actual person. More like a scam... See more

Their "Day Centres" in my area is only 4 hours. Their website does not tell you that their is a charge for the lunch mentioned. The lunch is obligatory and costs £8 per week and you are only allowed 4 absences, the other 48 have to be paid whether you want it or not. Basically they are not offering care/help for the elderly - it is jyst a moneymaking organisation

I have never telephoned them for help on ANY issue with success. Health, footcare, handyman etc etc.
In my opinion and in my experience utterly useless.

Maybe I caught them on a bad day however when my mother was poorly and bed ridden I called them for help and advice and to be honest my experience was very poor. I found the member of staff dismissive and basically stand offish. I merely needed help with who to turn too but quickly learnt they didn’t really care! I ended up calling Kent adult services and was very lucky to be appointed a wonderful lady who ensured my mother’s last remaining months were as good as anyone would hope! Thanks Kent Adult Social Services but no thanks to Age UK……..the adverts on tv don’t impress me!!

Terrible company. They start to dictate what you can and can't do in your own home! While at the same time raking in the money. Remember that people are paying your wages! The so called "Carers" don't do their jobs properly anyway. They are lazy and incompetent.
I did but very little empathy and understanding there. It's like talking to a brick wall. All they are bothered about is getting the money. Hardy any senior management are ever in the office. Most of the time the phones are not even manned. Answer phone mainly.
There are few with natural caring and empathy. That is part of someone's personality, and few have those qualities.
Someone really caring would have got back asap if a customer had issues regarding the service. Someone in a senior position. Would have said "Sorry to hear there are issues that are concerning you. I'm here to help, and hopefully get things resolved. Can you tell me what has gone wrong and is bothering you? Rest assured we are here to help"
Instead all you get, assuming there are times you can actually get through on the phone, is someone answering who sounds bored and half asleep, wanting to just get out of the office, telling you they will pass on to a coordinator. You never hear anything else. People just don't care at all. In an organisation like AgeUK caring should be at the forefront. I think it's a very sad reflection of these times.

I have been staying with my mother as has she not been very well.
And have phoned age uk a number of different times over the past week only to be told my local branch in Sutton is not working and to be transferred to the main branch.
This line sounds terrible it tells you waiting time is 60sec even after 5 minutes and after getting though then to be told you will have to ring your local branch..
Not good.

I received an email from Age UK inviting me to apply for car insurance ( due shortly).
I completed their form on line and received the message that they could not insure me due to my age. I am 76 and have a clean licence with no claims for at least 12 years.
So, Age UK will not insure drivers in their mid 70s! What’s in a name? Seemingly not a lot!

A £5 cheque isn’t a great way to receive winnings. There should be an alternative way which doesn’t involve several miles to my nearest branch or the cost of a postage stamp. My 2 previous emails haven’t had a response.

I Have put a review on here and still haven’t had a answer, I have noticed only certain people have had a answer.

Age UK Crewe, not to be confused with Age UK Cheshire. The shop in Crewe is a “discount store” it takes over the door donations and clothes from other Age UK stores to sell at unbelievable low prices. You can literally buy a complete outfit for under £10!!! A dress £2, shoes £2, jacket/coat £2 and bag £2, leaving you £2 to spend on a piece of jewellery. In this financial recession, there is always a bargain to be find in the shop Bric a brac is sensitively priced and a must for anyone starting out in a new home. If you’re staying in for the evening there is a vast display of books, DVDs and CDs to be had. The staff at the shop are friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable about their stock.

Supposedly the new superstore in Lincoln is a charity shop. When entering the store, all we could see was new goods and large prices. How can people afford these prices, its a charity shop, people usually go there for a few reasons, the first is to help support the charity as a whole to raise funds, Secondly people who cannot afford a lot know they can pick up a bargain. Have Age UK forgotten what the word Charity means. Help the elderly to help people who are struggling and have little money. We was in the store for approx 30 seconds. What a waste, it could be so good.

Absolutely disgusting attitude from the staff when I went in to donate items at Uppingham. I was clearly an inconvenience, their eyes only lighting up at the big ticket item which was freshly priced and heading to the shelf before I’d even finished my donation.

My mother was taken advantage of as the cleaner did not clean . My mother had since died and it was her money down the drain.
The cleaner was pretending to clean by using a broken vacuum.

Age concern is not age concern at all. They are definitely not concerned about the older generation who don’t have emails to provide when trying to get a quote for insurance. Goes to show. They are obviously not thinking about the older generation in full 😡

really hostile and unfriendly phone staff, never assisted me and having been referred to a service locally following surgery, only found out today she works for this charity , she never told me that and the lack of transparency and the fact no help or assistance was given, is clearly down to discrimination. i then self referred and still no help. it caused sgnificant loss to me and distress. they discriminate against who they help and they believe you are not entitled to ask questions and they def. do not like that.

Having read all the poor reviews here, I've decided to use my detective skills to look deeper into the background of the Age UK's charity status. I am a detective constable in Berkshire. My mother-in-law who lives near Reading was not given time to think about her Stairlift purchase of over £5000. The salesman told me that his boss, Carl Lutchavitch tells everyone to sell on the day and push for sales. You'll hear more from me and the authorities soon. I will not disclose her name and address, so please don't ask me to.
I took in some rather good stuff today to age UK in Hove they just stood around and couldn’t be bothered to offer to Help, when Id finished. I didn’t even get a thank you…That will definitely be the last stuff I ever give to AgeUK.
I understand the CEO of this charity gets £110,000 a year wages.

Unfortunately not the best. Ive offered my services to the local branches all free of charge. Basically they couldn't even be bothered to answer.
I've deleted the email because it basically said complain, the email I originally sent was to the local chief executive but he/she couldn't be bothered. So what's the chance of me getting a response to a complaint. Well nothing I suspect. So basically why waste my time.
