Just tried getting some help for an elderly friend using their "helpline". All I got was a 25-minute wait with messages trying to sell me products. Never spoke to an actual person. More like a scam... See more

Age uks homecare services don't take disabilities of older people into account and there attitude is one way if could give o stars I would
I fought my way through rush hour traffic to make a large donation to their Pontypridd shop. 15 minutes before closing the door was locked leaving both me, and a customer who had been told to come back later to collect stuff standing outside.
A pro tip for charities is not to upset donors or they will stop donating; which is what has happened here. Not only have they lost this, and future donations, but the gift aid that goes along with it.
Give your money to charities that deserve it.

This is a review about the modifications provided by the Age UK bathrooms. After serious consideration, I am writing this review to alert others to the mishaps and ongoing issues we face. We had a full new adaptable bathroom installed in June 2022.
The layout of the bathroom is not user friendly and will certainly not take a wheelchair or similar in the future as the doorway is now narrowed because of the radiator position.
From the outset, we realised that only 1 fitter was coming, despite being promised 2. This was a big job and the fitter provided was a sub-contractor of a sub-contractor. As such Age Uk have no powers over who gets the job.
We have had onoging issues with the electronic seating which is erratic and makes a grinding noise when lowered. Our local builder looked at it and suggested that under the bath was probably full of rubbish which was hindering the mechanism. The fitter had no pride in his work and so this isn't a suprise.
The bath drain does not empty fast and the chrome finish is coming off the fittings.
It is a shoddy job and for the cost simply a huge disapointment. We alerted Age UK 3 times to the issues with the fitter at the time he was here but they did little to remedy the issues. A huge waste of money and I am now saving up ofr decent fittings and possibly a redesign of the bathroom as it won't meet my needs in the future.
I think the staff at Age UK need to include an OT to help with the design and correct fitting of handrails. It was clear the fitter who came to us simply wanted to do a quick job and had zero knowledge of adaptable bathrooms. I cannot recommend this part of Age UK.
Update on 10th January: Zero reply from the HAndicare Company. They are simply not interested.

I contacted my local age uk branch about 18 months ago, the gentleman was very helpful some months after I spoke with them again,I'm very unwell at the moment and it was decided that I needed a occupational therapist to visit to help with adjustments fot bathing cooking etc I've waited 14 months still no occupational therapist today I called the office and was cut off I called back to be told a pack of lies the original person I spoke to was on another call the manager was in a meeting
I asked for Age uk telephone number, again twice on the phone for 20 minutes each time but never get a answer. But called back to make a donation and got answered immediately. Outrageous and complete waste of a morning trying to get some help.

Quite despicable that people are leaving bad reviews for Age U.K. I volunteer for them by calling an elderly lady each week. They also provide services to the elderly such as check up calls and financial advice. What other charity helps the elderly so much?

I was watching your advert on Sky News. The theme of the advert was that old people are lonely and feel invisible. The people used in the advert appeared to be in their 60s, or less. It caused me to feel that those who are really the invisible ones are the generation in their 80s and 90s. This is probably not the case as far as Age UK are concerned, but the advert does imply that even Age UK have forgotten those who are older than 65. Not a good advert for Age UK.

Handyperson requested for Mum's curtain rail which had come down less than a year after being put up (by someone else) - very prompt service, saw what the problem was which had caused the old one to fall down (an error on the part of the previous fitter causing it to keep catching, getting stuck and having to be yanked to get it to draw which weakened the whole thing, I had had my suspicions) and all fitted now with no more problem!

After filling out an application form, I have sent multiple texts/emails to the team in Leeds over the last few months trying to arrange an interview for volunteering and they don’t bother replying to you and act like they aren’t looking for volunteers. I’d recommend not wasting your time and instead try to volunteer somewhere else! It’s a shame as I was eager to volunteer.

It is good to engage with people over e telephone, and to be honest, I prefer working here for free than most paid jobs.

This is no charity. They dont care about helping people. This is a company trying to make money using the excuse of charity. It makes me angry when they dont want to collect a perfectly good electric reclining natuzzi sofa that has no damage apart from some of the pain on the searing area looking dull. They drivers didnt even take their shoes off to view the sofa and they didnt want it. Its not a sofa for the bin. Charity my back side

Got a back pushed through my letter box asking for unwanted clothes. Great, we had a load bagged up and ready to go. So we left them outside the front door ready to collect.
Nothing. Still there in the evening. Read the bag and found you have to leave them on the path outside your house.
So my wife contacted them as the day had gone by for collection. Was told go and put the bags out on the path now and someone would be round to collect them. Got o 8 in the evening and they we still there.
So my wife contacted them again only to be told they couldn't collect for another 3 weeks.
What a waste of every bodies time. Organisation is so poor.
Gave the clothes to Planet Aid. Much more worth charity.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Stalybridge Age UK charity shop, and I must say, their team managers are the true stars of the community. Their kindness, caring nature, and unwavering support for Age UK's mission is truly commendable. Not only are they hardworking, but they go above and beyond to raise vital funds for a noble cause.
The team's dedication shines through in every aspect of the shop. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed and valued by the staff. Their enthusiasm for helping customers and their genuine interest in making a positive impact on the community is truly heartwarming. The selection of items in the shop is remarkable, and it's clear that they take pride in curating the best offerings for their customers.
What's truly impressive is that they've extended their opening hours to include Sundays, making it even more convenient for people to support Age UK. The dedication of the volunteers is also worth mentioning. Their commitment to the cause is evident, and they contribute to the warm and inviting atmosphere of the shop.
It's undeniable that the managers are the driving force behind this wonderful shop. Their hard work and dedication have turned it into a lovely place to shop, and their exceptional customer service deserves recognition. I believe they should be honored with an award for their outstanding efforts in going above and beyond for their customers and the community.
In a town with several charity shops, Stalybridge Age UK stands out not only for the quality items they offer but also for the genuine kindness and care they exhibit. It's clear that their success is a result of the fantastic team they have in place, and I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to experience it firsthand.
