Very poor customer service

Very poor customer service. Disgrace to Japan. Lack of politeness is on full display. Orders take a long time to fulfill and they list items on their site as "in stock" when either they aren't or they are on backorder. They also list items that apparently for whatever reason can't be shipped to Australia so they make you wait weeks for an email only to cancel your order. So frustrating. Why can't they be shipped here? We want these items and you don't offer them on Amazon Australia. They need to provide better service to their Australian customers and lower their shipping charges.

I'm in trouble with Amazon.co.jp!

Hello,
I am a Bulgarian immigrant living in Turkey. My family lives in Bulgaria, I live in Turkey. I visit Bulgaria monthly or weekly. My parents live there...

My problem starts here,

I catch a DJI Drone discount on Amazon.co.jp. And I want to become a member and buy it, it says there is no shipping to Turkey. OK, no problem, I enter the address of my father's house in Bulgaria, shipping is possible, there is a shipping fee. It's still cheap, no problem!

I fill in my credit card, I buy it, the session ends. I try to log in. Suspicious transaction, the system wants me to send photos with the last 4 digits of the card visible.

- I put my credit card on the table and took a photo,
- I put my ID next to my credit card and took a photo,
- I printed my credit card statement from the printer and put it next to the card,
- I uploaded my credit card statement as a pdf.

What happened? I tried 4 times, my membership did not open.

I signed up again, tried to buy again using a different card. Same problem again! My membership was banned.

What are you doing guys?

- I shop from Amazon.de and the product arrives to my Turkey and Bulgarian addresses,
- I shop from Amazon.com and the product arrives to my Turkish and Bulgarian addresses,
- I shop from Amazon.com.tr

None of them have any problems, but I guess Amazon.co.jp is completely out of control. It bans me with the credit cards I have and closes my membership!

Scammers - misleading customers

This is not a trading platform, this is a joke. Before placing order delivery date was in 5 days, after placing order delivery date is from 21 to 65 days! And 7 days after the order was placed it's not even shipped. Customer service is not possible to contact, only stupid and useless bot. Seems like Amazon does not care about reputation. Worst experience ever!

Horrible app if you are a foreigner

Horrible app if you are a foreigner. Don't even think of buying here. Create account. Insta blocked. Contact customer service. Get it unlocked after 24 hours. Make a gift card purchase for a friend. 1st time it works and you give them the money and get the item. 2nd time they suddenly do not recognize your card. They claim it is your bank's fault. Talk to your bank. They say everything is fine you can still buy it on Amazon USA and amazon Germany even. With my same mailbox in the USA. (Even if I live in another country, I just have to pay extra to get it delivered to me, wohoo 3rd world country). Anyway try to register your credit card again. Contact customer support. Clear cache, restart modem, restart pc, use another browser according to customer support. Nothing works call bank, tell them you still have issues. They do not register requests on my card or that they received the money. I check my balance it says pending on the bank meaning they haven't sent the bank the email with the confirmation that they received the money but they assure me that they have sent the money. Try adding debit card. Gets blocked for suspicious activity. Get ignored from there on by customer service on the mails

Inconsistency of trial period

I agreed to a trial period, but due to unforeseen circumstances had to temporarily leave the country a few days after - yet, upon kindly explaining the situation, I was not allowed to pause the trial. If a costumer is not given opportunity to actually try a service, said trial period does not consist in anything.

Amazon Japan Customer Service Is Now A Disaster. .

The quality of Amazon Japan's Business Customer Service has deteriorated markedly from the situation that previously applied up until the middle of 2024 and to the extent that it is no longer possible to feel confident that issues, should they arise, will be dealt with efficiently and effectively. Previously Business Customer Service was very customer centric, efficient, courteous and effective, and freely available in English. Now English Language Support is almost impossible to obtain via chat and can only be obtained via email, lessening the efficiency of the Support Process. Yet Amazon is very happy to enable Business Accounts in Japan to be conducted in English. I have used Amazon Japan for over 10 years and whenever I needed assistance in the past, the experience was very positive. Now, however, this is no longer my experience. Huge, huge thumbs down to Amazon for whatever change in Japan it has recently made to its Japan Customer Service operation.

I've been shopping on Amazon for many…

I've been shopping on Amazon for many years, but recently had a very bad experience. I often leave reviews for particularly good or problematic products, and have received thousands of "helpful" votes. However, after leaving reviews for a few extremely poor products, all my reviews were deleted and I was banned from posting new ones.

I used to write reviews at Amazon's request and out of kindness to other potential buyers, but Amazon sent me a "warning" message that was quite rude compared to similar messages from other countries' Amazon communities. This might be discrimination against Asians, but overall, it seems the Amazon.co.jp community representatives are less educated and have poorer thinking skills than those in other countries. This reflects a lack of investment in employee training.

My reviews have included issues like returning clearly used items (with fingerprints, shoe marks, and even mud) and exposing fraudulent portable SSDs that misrepresented their capacity. These reviews were never removed. However, a recent review I wrote about the Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Generation) stating that despite improved picture quality, it still occasionally skips frames even with a network speed of over 200 Mbps, was apparently deleted.

In any case, this shows Amazon's poor compliance standards. Amazon.co.jp's community representatives are particularly subpar compared to other Amazon customer support teams. Can't something be done about this?

I used to spend about 2 million yen annually on Amazon, but I have started switching to other vendors like Rakuten. While I still read my remaining Kindle e-books, I'm purchasing new ones elsewhere. Amazon.co.jp should understand that frustrating customers has significant consequences.

Ordered important OA for our production…

Ordered important OA for our production company that was scheduled to arrive within 2 days. Suddenly the arrival date changed to more than one week out! Called CS and they said it was due to Prime Day unexpected volume. They could only offer a refund or we could wait. That's unacceptable as the substantial delay is detrimental to our company. When I asked to speak wtih a supervisor the put me on an extended hold. When I finally was connected with a "team leader" I found out that actually there was a problem with our credit card processor and that the delay would've continued without us knowing why! The team leader was able to clear things up, but had we continued to reply upon the initial CS rep, we would've incurred more damage by not meeting our business deadline due to Amazon not delivering our needed equipment.

Paying for being honest and amazon.co.jp mistakes

I want my money back for deli

They sent a wrong item. This item was 10 times more expensive than the item I had to receive. I sent it back. In order to send it back, I had to spend 260 euros.

Now they want to refund me, but only with a crappy amazon gift card, which was never mentioned before.

That's what you get from their mistakes

only half of what I ordered arrived

Ordered 4 items. Only received 2. Looked online and saw they had split the delivery into two. Ok I think no big deal the other stuff will arrive soon...
Except it didn't . Soon after just refunded it saying it couldn't be delivered. The email saying this was quite acusoistory saying that It was likely I had given them the wrong or incomplete address but stopped just short of directly blaming me for it, but given it was the same order which Amazon decided to split into two and the first half arrived with no issues.... clearly their problem.

One of the two items is now no longer in stock and the other is in stock but more expensive than it was before making it not worth re-ordering..

Would not use Amazon jp again unless I really couldn't find something somewhere else, too much risk of not getting what you ordered or having them "fail" to deliver only to have the same item be listed again for a higher price. Very shady

It was good, but not anymore.

Ive been using them since a long time ago but now they are just rubbish.
1. Not clear about export regulations.
So many times a package was shipped and got pulled back right before leaving Japan because of some export regulations, I thought they were supposed to check what's ok to export to which country before letting you order?

2. Customer service is the biggest problem.
Recently a package of mine got pulled back and from the tracking number I got, the package stuck somewhere in Japan for a long time without moving, I couldn't get my refund because of that. CS told me to call USA DHL, was it a joke? USA DHL has never seen this package! Then they told me to call Japan DHL, I asked if they could call them for me from their office phone number and they dodged my question so many times. At one point I almost thought I clicked into some scamming website, because not only the way they talk looks like google translate to me, the way they want to do absolutely nothing to help is something I have never seen when I lived in Japan some years ago.

3. CS lied to me.
So this CS I mentioned above all of a sudden threw me to another representative and I asked the new person for a company mailing address, they said they can't tell me. Later I found it on their website. So it's public information, not sure what they worry about.

They've been doing worse and worse for the past few years (I would say even before the pandemic). I wrote a complaint letter to them because I think the management deserves to know what level their CS staff are at.

I shopped on their website because I can't fly to Japan all the time, but I will take my business somewhere more reasonable, or just wait until my next trip.

Mostly good but could stand to be more forgiving for order cancellations

Haven't had any major issues. I love that they ship to other countries, makes acquiring Japan exclusive products possible.

I tend to be cautious in what I purchase, as I'd imagine returning an order from Ireland to Japan would be complicated and expensive. However, I have not had any bad fulfilment experiences.

Delivery to Ireland uses DHL, I was absolutely shocked at how fast delivery is all the way from Japan to Ireland - less than a week! Well worth the delivery price.

My only criticism is that select products do not allow pre order cancellation. Had an issue where I wanted to cancel an item recently, but this was not allowed. To their credit this is stated on product pages before you order, however, this is still frustrating nonetheless.

Amazon servos start to be s…

Honestly, I started to use Amazon in 2018, and at my previous address, I didn't have any one-time problems with Amazon. I always checked the front door and always had mail that it delivered with photos, etc. Amazon before had real customer service phone numbers which they decided not to use I don't know from when! But this year I had a lot of problems with the Amazon delivery system. One time the delivery staff called me and asked me for my address which he couldn't find and was so rude. Lastly, he just canceled the call and didn't let me explain him. And last month in December I had issues like “delivered” status without the delivery item. Of course there is no phone number for calling and asking what happens. That stupid automatic customer service message is not helpful! The last time was helpful for me seller sent me a delivery company number with whom I could call and talk! Yes, they brought me an item, but the delivery staff was so rude compared with general Japanese customer service it was minus 100! The staff even didn't let me open the door, he just said in Japanese hi and put the item inside my home and didn't ask me or say even hello. Yesterday I had another issue I needed to return an item because I ordered a beige item and it came in cream with yellow dots, can someone see the similarity between these two colors?! So the seller said that I needed to pay for a return and they'd return to me just 50% of my payment. Unfortunately, I already ordered items that I'm still waiting for. Then today one of my next items didn't come to me with the delivery status. I need to waste my time on this complicated rude system to my last item. And it'll be my last order from Amazon! Hope my next order will come to me without issues! Even that one starts Amazon Japan doesn't deserve!

Useless

Useless. Ordered 3 items to be shipped to my Tokyo hotel. First they said my payment method was declined but I see payment actually went through on my card. Then the order was accepted but I got a random message saying there was some kind of shipping error and they are refunding me. Not at all like Amazon US or Australia. Will be cancelling my account once the refund is confirmed.

I have experienced Amazon India and…

I have experienced Amazon India and trust me it ensures best service and customer care. Amazon Japan is not good. It has many issues and frustrating experience. They rely on the courier company to deliver and they are pathetic. Both agencies just finger point towards each other and customer is left unattended.

Not sure if there is any alternate option to shop online shopping in Japan?

If you have used Amazon in the US

If you have used Amazon in the US, EU, and the UK, you know the service is mostly excellent with amazing customer protection.

Well, that is not the case in Japan. I ordered a small electrical equipment, that's turned out faulty out from the box. Naturally, I started the return process, which went fine. The problem was the refund stage.

Amazon had claimed that I sent back a damaged item which was not true since I couldn't even use it. And that I was not eligible for a refund. There is no appeal here. I contacted customer service and they finally agreed to issue the refund.

The item was 6k yen. My refund was 500 yen. And again, no appeal.

My take is they knew I'm a foreigner and I literally couldn't do anything about it. If this happened in the UK, they would be in a lawsuit, up the rear side.

TLDR; Do NOT trust Amazon JP.

Pacakge for the books I've ordered was ridiculous, no padding at all, only a soft cardboard bag. All the items got damaged. I wanted to talk with someone to explain the situation and show them pics of the problems but they only offer a complciated overseas return option.
SHAMEFUL SERVICE.
