Hi Janet! We are so sorry for the frustration and upset this has caused you over the years. Your family tree data is safe on our servers, but when a tree does not display on screen, it usually means your account is logged into a secondary profile or there is a browser sync issue. Because we cannot access account or subscription details over public review platforms for security reasons, please reach out to our support team directly so an agent can locate your active account and ensure your tree appears correctly on your screen! We've linked our contact details below. Thanks for your patience!

Annoying glitches

Great... subscription for 'all UK records' which only allows access to birth and marriage registers. What a scam. And now there's a glitch where I cannot crop any photo - it turns it into a pixel! They're needlessly updating the appearance of tags instead of making their website functional.

Hello, and thanks for your review. We are very sorry to hear about your frustration with both your record access and the photo editor glitch!

An Essentials membership covers key UK census and basic birth, marriage, and death indexes, while upgrading to Premium unlocks all UK & Ireland collections (including parish registers, military, and probate records). Worldwide or All Access expands that even further to international records and sister sites.

As for the photo cropping glitch turning images pixelated, that is definitely not expected behavior. Please reach out to our support team at ancestry.com/help or send us a direct message so we can report this bug to our tech team and assist you directly!

Sneaky Auto Renewal and Radio Silence

II purchased a GIFT membership for my husband last Christmas and then followed this up with a DNA gift for his birthday. Not the cheapest of gifts but it absolutely fascinated him. HOWEVER....

I was charged a further £49.99 on 30th March and again, on 27th June but have no record of authorising or signing up for an automatic renewal. I have raised the issue twice with Ancestry and had complete radio silence - no response or acknowledgement. Suffice to say membership has been cancelled but BE AWARE that there appears to be a sneaky automatic renewal.

Hi Barbara. Thanks for your recent review. Hello. We are deeply sorry for the unexpected charges and, even more so, for the radio silence when you tried reaching out—that is certainly not the level of service we aim to provide.

Gift memberships are designed to be one-time purchases, but if an account or recurring option was set up during activation, it may have triggered an automatic renewal.

We want to investigate this and get any unauthorized charges investigated for you right away. Please send us a direct message or contact us at ancestry.co.uk/help with your account details so a supervisor can handle this directly.

What happens when customer service really works

I decided today I was going to get this resolved once and for all, and luckily for me my call was picked up by Sinead. My first sensible phone call in 8 months with someone who knew what she was talking about and prepared to work with me to identify the problem - she agreed what I said had been happening (my old card stuck in the system) was happening hence the declines every single month since January. Still some way to go to work out why this is happening but I now know the narratives to whats happening, and it is for others to sort.

After three 1 stars in a row I am happy to reverse that to first five star customer service. Ancestry needs more "Sineads".

Hi Phil. Thank you so much for taking the time to update your review!

First, we want to sincerely apologize for the prolonged frustration you experienced over the last eight months. Dealing with monthly decline issues is exhausting, and we completely understand why your previous calls were so disappointing.

That said, we are so relieved and grateful that your call landed with Sinead. We are thrilled she took the time to listen, validate what was going on with your card in the system, and get you the clear answers you deserved.

We will make sure Sinead gets full recognition for her fantastic work—and we'll definitely pass along your message that we need more "Sineads" on the team! Thank you for your patience, and thank you for sticking with us.

‘Ancestry’ meets AI

I first used ‘Ancestry’ about 4 or 5 years ago but gave up as it was too difficult and very time consuming to trace relatives beyond those known. Now with AI integration it is significantly easier with potential relatives identified and multiple ‘Hints’ that link to archive materials that help you cross reference and check the reliability and validity when adding new members to the family tree; I was able to go back to the 1600s with relative ease!

Hi Andy. Thanks for your recent review. We know genealogy used to feel like a full-time job of sifting through endless files, so we’re thrilled that our upgraded Hints and smart tools made all the difference for you this time around. Making it easy to cross-reference and verify archive records is exactly what we aimed for, and it’s amazing to hear how seamless your journey to the 17th century was.

Welcome back to the Ancestry community, and happy discovering as you explore even further!

They have lots of records and cover a long time period. A lot of information can be gleaned. Down side is the more you pay to join puts you on a higher level of available data. But for all that cost you have to pay extra for newspaper reports and military records.
