They simply don't want to help, they will always blame the customers for their own mistakes, it's probably the worst bank in the world and it seems as if they assume that they are experts on banking... See more

Terrible bank

Don’t use this bank. This is the worst bank I’ve used, I paid for their travel pack so I could use ATM’s abroad without paying commissions. They charged me the commissions anyway and refuse to re imburse me. Disgusting company. I’m closing my account with them.

Shoot first, ask questions after!

When I arrived at my holiday apartment in Tenerife I found a card which had been sent two weeks earlier from the post office advising me that there was a letter from Banco Santander for my collection at the local post office. As it was sent two weeks earlier it was no longer available for collection.
I called at the branch and was informed that my account had been blocked!!!!
I complained and was told it had been closed as they required some information from me in order to update their records. I managed to supply some of the information ( which I am sure they already had) and they agreed reluctantly to unblock my account pending me sending them details of my tax return in the UK on my return home.
24 days and 30 emails later and I finally got confirmation that my account was operational.
I sent an official complaint to customer services by email but did not receive a reply!
I have come to the conclusion from reading other reviews all the banks are run by Muppets, and changing banks would not be the answer.
I have now decided to send by post copies of my complaint to th CEO Hector Grisi and a suggestion he looks at Banco Santander ES on trustpilot.
Just bombard theses people with complaints. It usually works and at least you can get some satisfaction in the exercise.

Absolutely appauling company

Absolutely appauling company, serious fire and after care terrible. No answer to emails or calls even when our administrators contact them. Most frustrating company, no response for days/weeks even though main home totally destroyed. Inform us they are re-tiling the floors but not all of them!!! Would never use them again, beware, more expensive and dismal.

They have terribly disrespectful…

They have terribly disrespectful customer service agents. They just hang up the phone on my face disrespectfully when she (the agent) didn't wanna listen to my issue anymore. Disgusting attitude towards customer, you certainly don't feel welcome. Same with their branches. When I went to branch they refused to serve me and gave me a fake appointment. I went on the appointment day and they said they can't serve me. They're treating people extremely bad. Avoid that bank!

Santander took over Banco Popular…

Santander took over Banco Popular accounts a few years ago and I thought they offer a better service, the same as Santander in the UK. But no, absolutely no, inefficient, unresponsive totally useless. Twice I have had my account blocked despite providing the required paperwork. Every branch I go into always has dozens of customers waiting, the electronic banking system appears efficient until you use it and I am charged €16 per month for what? I have to ask the question, are all Spanish banks this bad?

Worse bank ever

Worse bank ever ! Extremely expensive and the service is as bad as it can get. How often have I seen other clients turn around and leave ? This time, I did the same after 30 minutes queuing first in line but the employee too busy cashing a huge amount of money in cash without any safety and security consideration ... in front of everyone. When I mentioned it, I was told it was not my business. Three other ladies were sitting at their desk, apparently busy, and (of course) only accessible upon appointment. This time, the decision is taken: I will change to another bank which respects its clients.

Embarrassingly bad

I opened a Santander Bank ES account since I, as an european expat in Spain, needed a local bank for my salary payments.

Withing 3 months both mine and my friends account unexpectedly shut down without any notice. There was no good reason for this and it caused us all a lot of stress and challenges.

It took weeks to reopen the account and during this time I had some expenses tied to being forced to make international payments through my Swedish account (rent etc), take loans to afford basic living expenses (I could not receive my salary) and spending a lot of time with Santander phone support (land line).

For over a year I've been trying to be compensated for this. It's a relatively small sum for a bank to pay (60 eur). Also, I never received the bonus of 100 eur for signing up with Santander to begin with.

The communications are horrible. If I call phone support, they give me an email adress, and when I write to this address it referes me back to phone support. I have probably written to 7 different email addresses by now, and at best I reveive some kind of automatised answer.

I asked to be compensated with the promised 100 eur for the expenses, stress and inconvenience, and I have provided detailed receipts for the expenses, but Santander stopped replying.

This is a bank who does not care at all about it's clients and they will ghost you the minute any issue arises.

Avoid this bank.

Ps: the customer phone support is very friendly. I'm very sorry that they have to work for such an ignorant employer.

Santander Spain customer service is not…

Santander Spain customer service is not even a thing. Can't even log in to my account. Thankfully I do not have a lot of cash in this account (less than 200 euros) as it is now impossible for me to get. Santander Spain is a scam. In the UK I used to bank with Santander UK which was also awful and had to switch to competitors. Avoid.

Worse bank I have ever dealt with

Worse bank I have ever dealt with. Procedures are stuck in the dark ages. The non resident account can only be closed in person. It can not be closed if you have another account with them, insurance, mortgage etc. So an account with no transaction happening is still charging €16 per month.
If you require a bank account, mortgage, car or house insurance in Spain do NOT use Santander. They will even tell you to transfer €600 in per month even though average out goings are €150. Do Not Trust Banco Santander they only want to rip you off.

RACIAL DISCRIMINATION in Santander on Tenerife !

RACIAL DISCRIMINATION in Santander branch in Tenerife if you are not spanish! In branch they don’t want to talk to you about your account, they say that you need to wait for the person who opened the account for you; but this person has been on vacation since last week... and your account is not working.

You also receive an email that additional documents are required and after a couple of hours that new email with "thank you" for giving these documents and such emails for several days. but the most interesting thing is that branch stuff did not contact me and I did not give them any additional documents in those days. Ping Pong between stuff of santander with your account, you only get emails - "give the documents", "thanks for providing" and do not understand what is happening...

10 days have passed and the account is still not working..

It’s not at all clear what they have there in the santander branch to Tenerife is going on like a circus.

I called superlinia, they said that there is no data in the computer, I need to contact the Tenerife branch, but the branch does not answer. I sent a complaint about racial discrimination, no response yet

Nightmare! Account was blocked without letting me know.

My account was blocked without informing me, only when my transfer from UK was returned did I find out why! I have completed the Mandatory Customer Information Form online to update my details without any acknowledgement. So, after reading so many depressing reviews I dont hold out much hope and dread having to make a special journey to visit the local branch to throw myself at their mercy! The so called English speaking phone number doesnt exist. I cant believe they are still trading.

Would give zeros stars if possible

Would give zeros stars if possible. Do NOT let an elderly friend or relative bank with Santander in Spain. The commercial bank, Private Banking and Insurance arms could not be more predatory! It is absolutely shocking. In fact, it almost feels as though employees at every level from local branch customer service to senior private bankers are either getting commissions for cheating the elderly (and worse, even cheating elderly clients of the bank, who are also heirs of other lifelong Santander clients), out of their investments. Or, perhaps, the Bank just prefers to let their clients fall victim to unsupervised branch offices and private bankers in the wealth management division. Either way, in most countries there are now laws against elder abuse and exploitation. Santander ought to be a case study for unscrupulous treatment of elders in their community. If you think it's okay for your grandmother's private banker to tell her that she shouldn't trust Spanish Post to deliver her portfolio statements and should instead come by and request a one-page summary, which by the way has been redacted and hand-edited; ask her to sign documents that mix her personal data with those of a third party; replace her mailing address with that of a Spanish Consulate in another country; block her account so she can't get around the Bank's information blockade ... the by all means sign her up for an account with Santander. Just be sure also to hire a forensic accountant to deal with the fallout! The horrible reviews you've already read are undoubtedly true. My 93 year old aunt died and her 88 and 85 year old sister, both clients, have complied with every Bank policy, but apparently compliance is a one-way street and Santander. Did I mention that it is not even possible to get the name or contact information for the director of a private banking office to let that person know that a private banker in the office has not responded to a single email or phone call for over 6 months, and the Branch Office and private baker refuse to comply with a decision of the company's own Claims Department? My 88 year old Mom was told that the only way to get her account unblocked was to fly 3000 kilometers and stop in at her Santander branch office! Do not believe that Santander has incompetent staff. The Bank's actions are calculated to make it impossible for vulnerable people to access their funds and/or detect fraud.

Does any One know how to contact the Spanish Banking Ombudsman?

Previusly wth Banco Popular then taken over by Banco Santander. I ws forced to take out house insurance with them or pay Euros 48 per month on fees. Given wrong policy number. I had damage to property in September is it now February and STILL this complaint is not attended to. Many high premium calls to Spain AND I CAN SPEAK SPANISH. Staff rude and put you on "hold" or even cut you off For over 500 Euros on a policy I think this is very poor service. I will be moving banks when I get out to Spain.

Bancosantander.es Spain

Bancosantander.es Spain. Still have not sent Aunty her SMS PIN. Her bank account is now empty. They refuse to unblock her account. She has done nothing wrong. Bancosantander.es blocked her account without warning. She has sent them all the proof of account holder they require. Only a few years ago they requested a mandatory update of her as account holder. She posted the forms...they accepted the post then un-opened... sent it back to the UK without any explanation.
Bancosantander.es are a terrible bank. The next course of action is to complain to their financial Ombudsman...they of course...require this to be one only in Spanish.
