They simply don't want to help, they will always blame the customers for their own mistakes, it's probably the worst bank in the world and it seems as if they assume that they are experts on banking... See more

Stay away: incompetent and completely ineffectual

This has to be the most incompetent bank on earth. I've written, e-mailed, called and even walked into a branch office to resolve my issue to no avail. Truly hard to believe. I closed on the sale of a condo in 2014, and I'm STILL getting bills for a home equity line of credit on a condo I haven't owned for over 6 years! Yep...they were notified through proper, legal closing documents just like every other bank is in these situations, but apparently someone must have been asleep in the "closing this out" department. Mind you, I never even used the line of credit and only opened it for emergencies. Yet, I keep receiving bills with now what is going on for 6 years of "annual" administration fees racking up year after year, which is infuriating. It's truly unbelievable. Really scary these people are in charge of anyone's money

Appalling customer service

Appalling customer service, been locked out of my account for almost a month for reasons unable to identify with no notice. I have tried to call the branch, no response, Superlinea - a lot of talkers and people making empty promises to help but no change. When I tried to enter the documents via multiple computers told Cargando - i.e. "loading" but nothing

A so-called Bank which offers no banking services

I have just spent two hours walking and following google maps links to non-existent branches to get cash from an ATM without paying commission… in my home town they took over Banco Popular, reduced the opening hours before closing the branch… and then removed their ATM meaning a 10km drive to get cash….Over this same period my account was changed without consultation so there is now a 20€ monthly fee - it was zero before. Mails to my so-called personal advisor are never answered.
This has to be the World’s worst bank and after today’s experience I will finally move my money and custom to an institution worthy of the name bank!

Poor Beyond Comprehension

Poor Beyond Comprehension

I had an account and mortgage with Banco Pastor who were excellent. They sent monthly statements, receipts for payments and an annual mortgage statement. Then Santander bought them out and the statements stopped. I have tried so so many times to call and email but have had no help. Tried numerous times to open online account but it says my accounts are not recognised and to visit a branch. When I was in Spain last I managed to make an appointment but when I attended they denied knowledge of it and told me to go online. So you just go around and around in circles. I have no idea what is in the current account what with DDs coming out etc and only a rough idea of what is left on the mortgage. My initial thoughts that this maybe some sort of anti british sentiment since Brexit but looking at these reviews in appears the are universally poor to everyone!!!! If you need to open a Spanish bank account just go anywhere else

Worse than third world

I have banked in Canada, the United States, Taiwan, the Netherlands and with various Spanish banks. Santander has been by far the worst...like Nigerian Prince email bad.

The service has been deliberately slow, they refused to release funds and made internet banking nearly impossible.

I wouldn't urinate on them if they were on fire.

Diabolical xenophobia by staff in large…

Diabolical xenophobia by staff in large expat areas. Deliberate policy of forcing all clients to use online only. Elderly Spanish clients forced to queue for hour to be told to go to the machine. Branches closed with no notification to account holders - worse still, not advised how to access their accounts. Without doubt the worst bank in Spain. UK one isn’t much better!

One of the worst Spanish Banks I ever…

One of the worst Spanish Banks I ever had the misfortune to deal with. They treat their staff like slaves, don't respond to emails, have completely no organisation, the only way you get them to respond (after numerous emails ) is to report them to the Banco de España....
They are also NOT friendly to the environment...

If any of my clients say I'd like to use them I crawl under the table and beg them not to....

Dreadful.

Unfortunately by bank was taken oven by them.

Now they say I owe money to them also but cannot give a breakdown of exactly what cost, where, etc .

The CEO should be a customer for a month to see & feel the experience!

No help given

I am a Spanish resident but have been stuck in England due to covid & am now unable to login to my Spanish Santander account as I do not have a current Spanish mobile phone number. Until recently this was possible but seems to have now changed.
No help given….once I can get back to Spain I will be changing my bank.

Absolutely terrible bank

Absolutely terrible bank, 20 years behind any other bank with technology, service and usability.
Never have I dealt with a worst bank in my life.
I'm traveling right now and changed my sim card from a rather useless Spanish one to an international contract, when trying to access the Santander app, for the first time in 1 year it now asks me for a one time pin sent to my phone number which I cannot receive, trying to change the number sends you to a branch... my Wife still has access to our shared account so we tried to at least update her phone number. Of course, Santander doesn't accept anything but Spanish number, so we add the number of a Friend still in Spain... BUT, of course, Santander sends a verification code to the OLD PHONE NUMBER instead of the new one.
I HATE THIS BANK, I SIMPLY HATE IT!
The moment I return to Spain I will close my account...

service to clients

service to online clients : 0 . Even when one go to the office , service 0. even when one aksks to make a apointment with one of the people in the ofice I know for sure she can help me they did not want to make a paintment for me, should be done online, but that does not work, also calling : nobody answers the phone . apps do not work , payments online at shops do not work. If you make complaints and send emails to headquarters they tell you they will investigate, but one never get a respone . Or responses that's convienant for them, : for example they told me : you have to have wifi ??? First i 'm not that stupid, besides, if I would not have wifi how the hell can I order online at some shops, so there answers ???? So if one want to order and pay somethings in a shop online you have to have a smartphone ?? It's just the other way around, I mean elderly peoply who want to order for example groceries online to be delivered they need to have a smartphone ??? That's not the way to do it, I mean these are the people who needs it the most and they can't because of all these stupid rules and whatever these people can't follow, so if you only have a mobile phone , not a smart phone you can not order anymore ??? Service : O00000000000000000000000000
besides they tell you to keep proof of the things going wrong ??? so that means they do not believe you ??

Hopeless

Hopeless. So much time wasted having to go to the branch to be given the runaround. Followed their advice only to have account frozen, then going through dramas unable to close our account. Really, don't bother. I have heard ING are a good alternative.

Disgusting Bank

we have a small mortgage with Santander in Santa Ponsa, we sent money from the UK and this was returned with no reason as to why, Turns out Santander blocked our account without informing us and trying to unblock via various online forms is just a nightmare, continuous emails and phone calls to the bank and customer service asking them for help, this has been going on now for 6 weeks and no help offered whatsoever, we are stuck in the UK due to covid virus and they suggested we should appoint someone in Spain as power of attorney , Joke

Horrible bank

Horrible bank
A nightmare
Never heard of the term ‘customer service’
Miserable, sour faced, untrained staff..
They block your account without even informing you...
Who owns the money in your account anyway?
They then close your account without even telling you!
They then charge you a fee, via a debt collection agency, for closure without explanation of the charge and then threaten legal action for recovery..Fantastic!
They then don’t issue you with a receipt for the closure fee you’ve paid
I was a customer for over 22 years
Just glad to get rid..
Be warned!!!
