Worst credit card!
Worst credit card!!
I had a charge of an item that I never received for $900.
I contacted Barclays to reverse the charges and they told me to wait until the next billing cycle to call them to make sure that I didnt receive it...Well I waited and filed a dispute and they told me that they couldn't help me because the transaction already went through!!
Then they lowered my card limit from $1000 to $600 out of the blue!!!!!
Im closing this terrible credit card!!
Buyer Beware!!
Misguided and unjustly charged during 0% Interest Promo Period
I opened a Barclays GM Rewards cc on 9/30/25 with a 0% interest promotion for 9 months. Before receiving the physical card in the mail, I needed to make a large purchase, so I called to see if I could use the 0% interest with the temporary card number in order to spread the cost out over 9 months. I decided to call and verify because the info I found online about the card sounded different than all other 0% interest promotions I had previously used.
I called and was connected to a foreign call center customer service rep from Barclays who gave me misinformation and reassured me the 0% interest was for any purchase for the first 9 months, not just GM related purchases. I asked her to verify this twice. After the representative confidently reassured me "not to worry", I was confident that I could use this credit card like my normal cards and would have 9 months of 0% interest for all my purchases.
Once I received the physical Barclays card in the mail, I set up paperless billing and auto pay to pay the minimum since I knew I had 9 months at 0% interest based on the representative's confirmation from my call. Five months go by and I happen to check purchases on this promotional card, and to my shock and horror, I discovered that I had been getting charged with huge interest charges since the first month that I started using the card!
Once I realized this, I called on 3/17/26 and spoke to another call center customer service agent. I explained how the last representative reassured me that I had 9 months of 0% interest for all purchases. She offered to escalate my concern. After back and forth attempts I was eventually able to speak to a senior manager who claimed that she reviewed my original call, confirmed that the Barclay's rep DID falsely reassure me that I wouldn't be charged interest and that she gave me incorrect information after I asked her twice to confirm. The senior Manager said despite the error on the part of their representative, she was not willing to remove the interest charges and help me beyond a $200 credit. Ultimately, $1069.42 in interest fees have been charged.
Barclays, a $100 Billion dollar financial company, proved to me that they lack empathy, remorse, and ethical integrity. Based on this terrible personal experience, I will never recommend anyone open or use a Barclay's GM Rewards Mastercard.
I informed each manager during each conversation that I had, that I was going to report this unfair and unjust treatment to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), Better Business Bureau (BBB), My FL state Attorney General James Uthmeier, and I will document my negative and unfair experience online through Google, Yelp, any and all social media and review platforms available to me. I have already begun this process and will see it through to completion.
The people who can make a difference at Barclays probably won't care about my situation. They probably won't care that despite my due diligence in checking with their customer service prior to using the card, I still was mislead and charged. If they are like their customer service senior managers, they will go through the process so that my complaints get closed, but I doubt they personally care that I shouldn't have to pay $1000 in interest fees. It's a $100 Billion company, with Multimillionaire executives, who profit off their greed, I doubt they care about "you and me".
My only hope is that maybe a customer like myself, who takes the time to read this account of my personal experience, will hopefully save themselves some grief and expense by not making the same mistake of trusting Barclays Bank of Delaware/GM Rewards Mastercard.
Threw in sewer today!
These are the worst company and credit cards in the history of credit cards. They let scammers keep the money they scam you out of even though you submit everything they ask for as proof. All 3 cards I had that had the name barclays on it went flying from my hand into the sewer after they went thru the shredder.
Don’t trust this company with your family’s future!
I paid two large accounts off (over 25k). I have never been late in over 12 years on either card. After I paid the accounts, they cut my credit limit down to slightly below the small balance on one card, so it also reported me as over limit! I am in process of buying a home. My bank says this is going to screw up my credit score as it is showing it as maxed out. Probably lost the house. They could clearly see I was buying a house.
There was no good reason to do this!
If you like being lied to, this company is for you
I had an incredibly frustrating experience with Barclaycard that cost me a promotional balance transfer offer through no fault of my own.
On July 13, I initiated an $8,483.11 balance transfer online. The next day, their Fraud Department called, but left no voicemail. When I returned the call, I verified the transaction was legitimate and was told Barclaycard had already cancelled it. I was instructed to simply log back in and submit it again.
The problem? Their website still displayed the balance transfer offer, but when I clicked it, it claimed there were no offers available. Customer Service repeatedly insisted there were no offers on my account, despite their own website showing otherwise. Multiple representatives and a supervisor were unable to help, and when I asked to speak with someone who could actually resolve the issue, I was told I'd have to wait 2–4 days for a callback.
Unfortunately, the promotional offer expired that same day, making the callback completely meaningless.
I have screenshots, complete with timestamps, showing the offer was still displayed immediately after I spoke with their representatives. Rather than honoring a balance transfer I initiated before the deadline, Barclaycard cancelled it internally and then prevented me from resubmitting it.
The lack of communication, contradictory information, and inability of customer service to resolve an issue caused entirely by Barclaycard has been extremely disappointing. I expected much better.
They randomly lower credit limits after…
They randomly lower credit limits after you make payments. Despite making payments on time and paying more than the minimum each month. My credit score is actually increased from the time I received this card and they have reduced my credit limit twice for absolutely no reason!
DO NOT OPEN A CREDIT CARD WKTH THEM
DO NOT OPEN A CREDIT CARD WKTH THEM. It is so easy for someone to hack into your account and open another card without ANY additional information! Then when you file for fraud they say they have “proof” that it was you without ever providing said proof. Total scammers.
Absolutely worst customer service of…
Absolutely worst customer service of all-time. They use foreign agents who really can’t speak English. It is a total nightmare. STAY AWAY
AVOID BARCLAYS CREDIT CARDS
I had a card with Banana Republic that switched to Barclays with a zero balance out of nowhere they charged me 19.00-never communicated that to me- never told me that the card name changed to Encore and then reported me as a missed payment. After the fact. I have an available 180,000 worth of credit an excellent score until now, Barclays reported it as a late payment and lowered my credit limit from 2,500 to 250 without notice. This is absolutely the worst card and company I would avoid Barclays at all costs, I'm sharing this to help anyone that is considering getting a card with them ( they offer many different branded cards) DO NOT GET A BARCLAYS bank card they are a fraud
I would rate a 0 if I can they say you…
I would rate a 0 if I can they say you need to pay on the date when you have auto pay on and they say the payments are late even when they say auto pay. The Barclay priceline card do not get they charge you so much and say you have a late payment when you have on auto pay and its 155 a month and I pay 200 dollars a month on it and only 25 dollars goes to the payment rest is on intrest.
Terrible experience they have been…
Terrible experience they have been lowering my credit limit for the past 2 years .This month their excuse was that I used a different credit card heavily .Ofcourse every time they lower your limit your credit score goes down.I didn’t even apply for this credit card they took over aarp accounts. My other credit cards raise my limit without me asking and Barclays just lowers it for no good reason other than they are doing it to hurt you .
Barclays messes with your credit score
I received a Barclay Credit Card through Breeze Air and was offered a balance transfer opportunity. I held a Jetblue Barclay card and thought they were a great company. My credit score is around 720. After a month or two, I figured I pay a thousand or so to lower my debt ratio on the Barclay, since I was using around 95% of the credit line. I expected my credit score to go up because of this effort. Barclay immediately changed my crdit line to a lower number... which hurt my credit score. The next month I payed a few thousand, and Barclay lowered my available credit again. I found out when I tried to buy a plane ticket. I thought I had several thousand dollars of "room". Wrong! Barclay had lowered my available credit again. At that point I figured I'd just use them until the term of my balance transfer had expired. I can't wait to terminate the card, which will happen the day before they try to charge me an annual fee. So in retracting my balance available, my Credit score suffered. Who needs a financial partner like that? They are NOT a good financial partner!
Don’t trust Barclays to be there when you need them.
I have both a frontier airlines card and Barclays view card through Barclays Bank. Once again, while on a road trip, I have been cut off until I can send in a copy of my social security card front and back. I’m 2,000 miles from home and they want personal documents you don’t carry on you. At least past instances of being left stranded at gas stations away from home have taught me to carry copious amounts of cash to cover expenses on the road. Is it more dangerous? Yes. Do you know better? Yes. Do I really have a choice? No. This company is like an abusive boyfriend who dumps you at a fuel station with no money and then later apologizes and says it won’t happen again, just to do it again. Well surprise Barclays Bank, I have enough cash to get me home and I will be paying off these cards and closing the accounts. I don’t need unreliable companies supporting my travel needs.
Stay away if you can!
Barclay credit card is one and only worst credit card I ever have. Having financial problem? There's no payment plan to help. Requested twice! In Jan and June. No payment plan that can help during this financial hardship. With high interest rate continue to build up. Even if you can afford a few hundred to pay each month. They refused to
take it. Never have problem like this with any other credit card company. Need to stay away from Barclay if you can. It will only buried you alive. If I could. I wouldn't even want to give it 1 star. It deserve no star.
We have had Mastercards for about 15…
We have had Mastercards for about 15 years. We live overseas, and that was one of the reasons for the initial application. In January, due to a suspicious charge (for flight tickets), the card was blocked. We switched our phone number because Skype went out of business. We are unable to unblock our card because we don't have the original number. It's not been 4 months, 3 faxes, and 3 letters of the required identity documents, with still no resolution. 1800.00 Has been credited to the account and we don't have access. It's such poor service after 15 phone calls.
Zero customer service help
Zero customer service help, twice requested to reverse charges with no help. Very hard to communicate with customer service. Definitely vendor friendly.
Customer services lies to customer
Customer services lies to customer. When you have an issue they do not fix the situation they just leave it for the customer to deal with. Their rewards program is trash. Would not recommend. Ive been dealing with an issue for 6 months and there is no resolution other than I have to deal with it
I DIDN'T EVEN SIGN UP FOR THIS CARD
I DIDN'T EVEN SIGN UP FOR THIS CARD. I HAD A GM CARD AND THEY SWITCH ME TO THIS CRAP AND THEN CUT MY CREDIT FROM 3000 TO 250. I'LL PUT IT ON THE SHELF WITH A ZERO BALACE AND USE THEM FOR POSITIVE CREDIT. USE THEM NOT THE CARD!!! AVOID AT ALL COST.
$500 credit limit and they still ding…
$500 credit limit and they still ding you for a $30 payment they did not billed me.
I carry $500 in my pocket and sure don’t need this idiots.
I had a Barclays Gold Credit Card for…
I had a Barclays Gold Credit Card for about 10 years. The customer service initially was excellent. They offered many perks such as nice yearly gifts, entrance into premiere airport lounges, and reasonably rated limo service to and from the airport. Within the last year or so, I noticed customer service declining, fraud charges on my card not investigated thoroughly. Finally, I became so frustrated that I just closed my account. With the yearly membership fee being what it is, no one should be treated like that. And, with these fraudulent charges, it screams inside job to me.
