Bas Bleu translates as "bluestocking" and refers to learned mid-eighteenth-century women (and men) who gathered in the great salons of London for intellectual conversation and witty banter. This literary salon "enjoyed society in undress" - that is, in their more practical country clothing, most notably their blue worsted stockings. The Bluestockings enlarged boundaries of what women could think, write, and do. Modern-day bluestockings are avid readers, have a sense of humor, and are eternally curious.

You cancelled my order

You cancelled my order. I purchased 2 items and days later I received an email that your company really didn't have the items to ship to me. I run 2 businesses and I know the value of maintaining accurate counts of what items I have on hand to begin with. With today's technology, there's no excuse to oversell a product. This was my first purchase with your company, disappointing.

$$ well spent!

I have enjoyed Bas Bleu’s creative and unique merchandise over the years. They have merchandise not being advertised elsewhere. I wish I had a bigger budget so that I could afford to order more gifts for my family and friends.

The gift that keeps on taking

I ordered a puzzle from Bas Bleu as a birthday gift for a friend. She already had the puzzle, so I told her to order a different puzzle and return the gift to refund my credit card. She ended up with TWO new puzzles, and a gift certificate to Bas Bleu. I’ve called many times during this whole episode to try to resolve, but not one customer service representative has helped me. I will never order from them again.

I tried to order 2 pairs of readers on…

I tried to order 2 pairs of readers on the phone. Could not order online because there was no place to add item numbers. A young man took my call. I could hardly understand a word he said & when I asked him where he was located, he said the Philippines. I asked him about the 15% discount as spelled out on the website. He said in order to get the discount I had to order more items. . How much more? I asked. He said he didn't know.

STAY AWAY

12/23/23 I ordered a Christmas present and never got it, never heard anything from the company but order verification. I could not get any answer from CS. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this company
7/23/24 Bas Bleu finally replied to review. TOO LITTLE TOO LATE. This is extremely poor business, way too late to care about this company. I will continue to tell people my terrible experience.

Bas Bleu didn't stand by their email offer

I received an email from Bas Bleu at 12:14 pm today, 11/11, because I left an item in my cart. The message was that if I still wanted the item, they would give me free shipping today only. In the small print they said the offer expires 1 day from the date of the email. I tried to order the item in my cart plus 2 other items, but when I used the code they gave me, BB3, I got a message that tthe offer had expired. I called the catalog number for the company and had a fruitless conversation, but the person offered a different customer service number which I called. I was told he could see the offer was expired, no explanation as to how it could be expired when it was sent today. I said I should receive the free shipping as offered. He declined. I pointed out it couldn't be expired since the date of the email is today (12:14 pm) and a customer would have only the date the message was received as the email date. He offered me a 15% off coupon which would only cover half the S&H. I am disappointed in the lack of concern from the company. The offer was clear, the person I spoke to could see it, and still wouldn't honor their promise. I asked for his supervisor and was told they have no supervisors present today. I'm not surprised, but coming from a customer service background, I find it hard to believe a call center is operating w/o a supervisor present. Reputable companies have a responsibility to honor the offers they send out by email. I am beyond disapppointed by this experience with Bas Bleu. Apparently even calling customer service is a waste of time.

A surreal experience

I placed two orders with them since I was shipping to two addresses. I received confirmatory emails, but several days later checked the order status on their website which indicated "item cancelled" next to each item on both orders. I called and spoke to someone who wasn't really conversant in English but kept advising me to "call my bank" that they had had a charge back from my card. My card is only several months old and I hadn't made another purchase from Bas Blue with that card. Called back the next day during regular business hours hoping to speak to someone who spoke and understood English. The woman I spoke to was very nice (though not real fluent in English) and suggested I place the orders again, which I did. A few days later, one was shipped and the other cancelled. I again called, and first was told that I had to order online rather than by phone, then customer service gave the same "charge back" story again. The odd thing about these people is that they ask the same questions over and over, such as the order #, your name, etc. At least three times for both of these. The customer service person kept calling me by an unrelated name despite my repeatedly telling him that I wasn't that person and again repeating what my name was. Never again will I order from this company. This experience was completely bizarre and a waste of time. I think the most irritating part was their cancellations of my orders without even bothering to let me know. I have put the latest date in the box request, but the conversations took place over several days.

Items never delivered

I purchased more than $170 in books and toys for my niece's kids and they were never delivered.
I contacted customer service at least five times through the website and never received a reply.
I also wrote an actual LETTER (remember those things?) and never received a reply to that, either.
I have always liked Bas Bleu books and gifts, but I will never order anything from them again.

Be wary of this company

I used to love Bas Bleu—great items in their catalog, good customer service—but with my most recent order, they have completely disappointed. On Jan. 26th, I ordered a gift certificate to be sent to my email address. Bas Bleu processed my payment on Jan. 30th, but by Feb. 1st, the certificate had still not arrived. I called the company to find out when they would be emailing my purchase to me; they didn’t know why it had not been sent, but offered to send a paper certificate via the USPS. The Customer Service representative said I would have it by today (Feb.10th). It did not come in today’s mail, so once again, I called Customer Service (which is no easy task since they have outsourced their service and ordering departments overseas). I was told it was mailed on Feb. 8th; one of the two people I spoke to suggested that I check today’s mail, and didn’t believe me when I told her I already had. Really? It’s like no one is in charge: when you call Bas Bleu, you just get passed around from one rep. to another. No one knows what’s going on and no one has any authority to make things right. The company has an email contact form on their website where you can supposedly communicate with Customer Service, and they promise to respond within 24-48 hours. Don’t hold your breath; I used that form on Feb. 1st and STILL haven’t gotten a response. Sadly, something is seriously amiss at Bas Bleu. If I don’t have the paper gift certificate in the next week, I will be asking for a refund, and then I won’t be buying anything from Bas Bleu again.

I've been a customer of Bas Bleu for…

I've been a customer of Bas Bleu for about 20 years - I did not make a lot of purchases but usually 2-3 items a year for birthdays. I recently found out that Bas Bleu has been charging me $14.95/month for some crappy VIP program. I called to get it canceled and the customer rep told me I should have realized it earlier because I did check a box and received a confirmation email, which he admitted probably went to my spam folder. This is a company I made sure to buy from even though it was always cheaper on Amazon and I had to pay shipping and they often had delivery issues. I also asked to leave my feedback and the customer rep told me that management sometimes reviewed their calls - Well, can't fix a problem if you don't know about it! I will not be shopping with this company again, although I might use their catalog to pick out items on Amazon:)

UPDATE: Bas Bleu did refund me the VIP program charges. I have not returned as a customer, but I am satisfied with the resolution. I guess the whole episode with the customer service rep just left a bad taste. I will raise my rating from a one-star to a three-star review now.
