Untrustworthy

Nathan will turn up & tell you everything that's wrong with your roof & windows but he is the person who can fix it all, you will then be ripped off. The repairs carried out on my windows were condemned by Velux technical department & Blue Star gave a partial refund. If this review is disputed, Velux have the evidence. One word of caution, Velux will only rectify defective work carried out by an approved installer if its a new installation, you will not be covered for repairs

Update to correct Blue Star Developments inaccurate response

After completion of the so called 'full service' ? & payment had been made I took a more detailed inspection of the works & found that clear mastic had been used around the windows & one of the metal flashings had been forced up to apply 'blobs' of mastic to the screw heads so I contacted Nathan with my concerns' he stated that 'all the flashings had been removed & new seals applied'.

I left it a couple of weeks & contacted Nathan again & asked him straight - 'have you installed new seals around all the windows' to which he confirmed 'yes'. I also told him that all the missing screws he said he had replaced were not missing as I had found them on the roof & in the gutter when he had obviously dropped them

He said look, the works are guaranteed for one year so if there is a problem I will come back & fix it, so when the windows started leaking I got him back

I pointed to where the the water was coming in, to which he responded 'impossible' so I slowly poured a 1 litre jug of water onto the glass which ran down onto the bottom seal & in came the water, not just a drop but a continuous trickle, so there we have it - not all the seals had been replaced despite being told twice that they had.

At this point he blustered that he need to order some parts, his office would contact me to arrange for him to return & then he could not get out of the house quick enough

This was Oct '22 & I have never had any contact from Nathan or his office since so this is why I contacted Velux direct

Couple of other points

He mentions using bigger screws because the wood is rotten, there is no rot, he just has the torque set too high on his drill so its stripping the thread

With regard to his 27 years experience, well I also have some experience. I'm a City & Guild qualified joiner, I have a OND & HNC in construction & I'm a member of the Chartered Institute of Build with 40 years experience in the construction industry

Thank you for your review, albeit not factually correct nor the full truth.

Just to give people an idea of what this review is regarding and what it entails:
This window had been left unserviced and untouched for 16 years. When we attended site, we advised all the issues wrong with the window, just as we would with any other customer, and how to rectify these issues. We agreed a plan and price to move forward with this, carried out the work and the work was completed successfully. The window was leaking quite heavily before we commenced our work, the window did not leak at all once we had completed our work. However, a week after, the customer called to say he was not happy with the work but could not tell us the reason(s) why. The customer had been pouring water down his window to check it wouldn’t leak, it did not leak and i asked the customer what he would like us to do as the work was already under warranty anyway. The customer replied “I do not know”, I then asked why he had rang and his reply was the same again …
6 months later, the customer called again to say that the window was leaking, as under our guarantee of work, which we provide to all customers, we returned to site. To watch, in sheer disbelief, a man pouring 12 litres of water down his window to see one little drop come through the bottom of the window. At this point I asked the customer if he had been doing this for the last 6 months. His response was “Well erm”.
We agreed to rectify the leak, but the customer went directly to Velux and showed them pictures of our work, with zero explanation of what we had advised him when we originally carried it out. As previously stated the windows had not been touched for a period of 16 years, without a great fitting from the original installer, with screws missing from the window and frame. So the evidence he has provided to Velux is that we have used the wrong sized screws. Velux only do screws of 3.5mm/60mm which wouldn’t grip a hold of this customers window because it was completely rotten underneath. This meant we had to use a 5mm/80mm screw, as this was the only thing that would get a grip through the rotten wood, this was explained to the customer at the time, however not to Velux in the complaint.
Therefore, the ‘evidence’ is not factually correct, because Velux does not provide screws of this size to grip a window that has been left for 16 years. Velux were happy with my explanation for my reasons to have used these. I have 27 years experience and we are recommended repair and installation specialists through velux themselves.

We offered to rectify the work, even though the customer had voided his warranty by unnaturally pouring water down his window for months on end. He refused, stating he wanted a full refund and also wanted a refund on two services that we provided to him free of charge. We offered a partial refund as a gesture of good will on our part.

As you can see, from our many other reviews, we carry out exceptional work and go above and beyond for our customers. All our work is guaranteed and if for any reason there was an issue we would always go back. The only untrustworthy thing here is the review left by this customer and his omitting of facts to velux.

Responding to update. Last time I will actually bother..

Yet more dishonesty. Everyone else must be wrong and this customer right. Please just call Sam in our office who witnessed the multiple water trips, even to this day comments are made about this event as it was so bizarre. I don’t tell lies unlike some people. With all the vast knowledge in joinery and construction why on earth did the windows get left in such a state of disrepair in the first place and regarding the drill torque is laughable. I didn’t use one drill on this job and with 40 years you should have known this surely? Font of all knowledge, clearly! The screws are what I dropped as they fell out of the rotten screw holes! Our reviews & work speaks for itself!

Amazing service from start to finish

Amazing service from start to finish. From my initial enquiry online to all the communication received its been brilliant service. Had a cat flap fitted in double glazed patio window, and also some velux windows cleaned and fixed which we've been struggling to get fixed for nearly 2 years now! Very friendly, honest and reliable.

Blue Star serviced 4 x Velux windows…

Blue Star serviced 4 x Velux windows for me recently. They replaced the seal and also repaired 2 frames that were showing signed of rotting.
I found Nathan and his colleagues to be efficient, prompt & friendly,
I would highly recommend Blue Star to anyone needing advice/repair of their windows

A more accurate review

I’m struggling to understand why some of the reviews of Nathan and his team are so outlandish. Nathan came across as the most knowledgeable of the Velux approved fitters. His team were punctual, respectful and efficient. A minor issue was corrected swiftly and without fuss.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Rip off merchants promise you a lot and deliver poor quality work .. that is when they decide to show up ! Poor communication, don’t show up ! Poor quality work and I’m still waiting for them to come and rectify their poor work .. get fobbed off daily but quick to take your money they are also very passive aggressive .. oh and Nathan bear in mind this day and age many people have cameras in their homes !! Disgusting behaviour. I won’t hold my breath on them coming to sort their crap work.rather not have them back but sadly I paid my money out for this. I wish I had paid more attention to the reviews on here .. let me guess their response to me .. have never heard of me.. laughable !

If it was not fraudulent you would have disclosed your true identity and not just smith!!! No previous reviews!! No customer contact from anyone called smith!!!

Furthermore we here at Blue Star Developments, we don’t do shoddy work nor ignore customers, so to claim we have done poor quality work when every other customer on here specifically states otherwise why would we do this when it clearly goes against the ethos of our company. We are honest, trustworthy, hard working. Just like the rest of our reviews state! Is everyone else wrong or is it just you? We are only human and yes we can make mistakes but if we were to make a mistake we would discuss this with our customer and rectify this accordingly. Hence why we have amazing reviews and comments regarding our customer service.

I don’t know who you are or why you have not bothered to discuss this properly with us before attempting to ruin someone’s business. Unfortunately we are unable to control people’s actions but we bend over backwards to help our customers as and where humanly possible so your comments are not only untrue and unfair but also disrespectful and unjust, life is difficult enough for everyone right now without creating more drama.

The GPS tracking system is crap

I have used blue staff for years probably still will but there's one gripe I've got And that is blue star allow you to gps track the buses which is all fine and good until the GPS Tracker isn't on the bus or isn't turned on so you stood around at a bus stop white in half an hour and then when you finally decide to make a move the bus turns up and disappears because you've walked 3 steps away from the bus stop

Enquired about a cat flap as my…

Enquired about a cat flap as my hooligan cats had broken the plastic bit chasing each other like bats out of hell.
V lovely company could have taken my money and fit a new one but instead sent me a link to order the broken part and I got sorted for the princely sum of £5.99.
Would def recommend as that customer service will bring me back if I ever need anything again or the feral beasts break it beyond repair....

Amazing friendly team.

Nathan and Jack arrived on time to fit my cat flap, with only 30 minutes notice. They did the job quickly and efficiently and cleaned up after themselves. Nathan and Jack were super friendly and chatty throughout their time in my house, as a single female, I am always uncomfortable with tradesmen in my house, but they made me feel very at ease in their company. They made a big fuss of my cats and explained the workings and of the cat flap in detail.
Highly recommend this company. Great professional service with a smile and a pleasure to have them in my house.
I now have 2 happy cats who can come and go at their leisure. Thank you. Great work.

Great service

From making the enquiry to fitting a large piece of glass with a cat flap was only a couple of weeks. Nathan always gave us a head up to what time he was arriving. Everything works, fits and looks great. We did have a slight issue with a trim coming apart and he was back and it was fixed within 24 hours no problem. Would highly recommend.

Great Customer Service

Would hundred percent recommend these guys, had some old velux windows that another company told me needed replacing. A friend recommended I try these guys before committing to costly replacements and I was so impressed with the service and how they went out of their way to repair my windows, saving me time and money. Great communication and customer service.

Nathan and his team were exceptional in their supply and fitting of our super expensive, heavy and huge roof windows!
Can’t highly recommend Nathan enough as his down to earth manner, straight talking no-nonsense is exactly what you need when dealing with Velux.

Five Star Customer Service & Excellent Workmanship

I moved into a "project house" a couple of years ago, the intention was to do it up as we went along. Fortunately for us a good friend recommended Blue Star Developments so we managed to ditch the DIY plans and get in the professionals. We started with a new roof and velux windows, we felt that we were advised on the best solutions for both our budget and a quality finish. We found Nathan approachable and efficient, he made time to discuss our ideas and offered practical solutions. Over the course of the last two years even with the constraints of COVID we have used Nathan and his team for several internal developments and the outcome has always been the same, a great finish and price. Our latest project has been the utility room and yet again we are thrilled with the workmanship and service provided with Blue Star. I have a small business myself and one of the benefits to using this company is that they have always been flexible in their approach and worked hours to suit our needs.
I recommend this company to all of my friends and family. Nathan and team, you are amazing, thank you.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Four velux windows

I have recently reconfigured my loft conversation which require 4 velux windows. Nathan is very knowledgeable and I got just what I required. They were very respectful and clean and tied workmen. I can highly recommend Blue Star Developments and Nathan in particular.

Very personable service and…

Very personable service and communication. Nathan measured up and returned to fit our catflap just over a week later. Was a bit later than arranged on the day but called to apologise. Completed the job really quickly and efficiently and even fixed the sticky patio door as a favour while he was at it which was very generous.

Super quick service!

I enquired about having a cat flap fitted into a glass back door on a bank holiday Sunday expecting a couple of days for a response. Sophie got back to me almost immediately and Nathan had fitted the cat flap by the Thursday! Super fast service and I am so happy with the results!

Really recommend blue star…

Really recommend blue star development's.
After ringing around numerous companies only to be told they didn't repair Velux windows. This was the only firm to come out and reseal all 4 for a very competitive price. From Sophie in the office to Nathan and Jo, service engineers. I found them informative and professional.
