Think twice before buying from Christies
We bought a 4000 sofa from Christies, Penryn in August 2025. The sofa arrived on time, but all the seat cushions were different. It had 5 seat cushions. 2 were foam. 1 had very little fibre fill which meant you sank into the frame with your legs in the air. Of the other two, one had 1kg less of very light fluffy fibre fill, so was much squishier than the other. The company sent out an independent inspector who failed to notice the foam fill (he was only asked to access the corner cushion) and proceeded to over fill and hand stitch the corner seat. We asked for replacement cushions. All the same weight please, as this is what we had paid for! This was attempted twice. We received cushions with holes in and unfinished seams and varying in weight by 2kg. Absolute joke. In fairness to the Christies employees I dealt with. (Charlie, John and then after a complete staff change, Paul), they were very professional and polite and all agreed it was terrible and should be rectified. We were offered foam seats and a £600 refund. After 4 weeks (1 week over promised delivery date) I called to find the manufacturer had gone bust and Christies hadn't processed any part of their promise. Sadly the owner was not willing to deliver on what we paid for, or agreed to in compromise. After lots of conversations over a period of 6 months, we had a full refund (May 1st 2026). Whilst we were not ripped off financially, the 6 months wrangling, from delivery to refund, was very annoying. We have now opted for a sofa 1/2 the cost from Furniture World in Truro.
It puts you off buying from a small local business when you experience this.
