CSI CluedUpp = very disappointed!

I’m being generous with 3 stars. I’m reviewing for the csi one.

Don’t waste your money. I was a team of 4 and we were disappointed that there was no interaction/actors or anything to make it fun. Having actors and places of interest would have been fun it’s all places in your local town that’s been selected from google and put into a phone app. Which brings me to my next point, everyone has to keep their phone internet on to use app which makes the phone run hot and also drains battery and some of the puzzles etc are far too hard for younger people and the only way is using any coins to pass but that makes them further down the final result ladder

Some places that came up can be in the centre of a busy city street which is not safe especially for kids if anyone has kids in their team.

Lastly, advertising has been done to make it look like it’s fun and all that and honestly the only thing “fun” is if you dress up but that’s more money some people don’t have. I wish I never bothered the only decent thing that day was being with my husband and friends and going out for lunch afterwards.

This one’s for CluedUpp, I do suggest that you advertise this better and make it safer for people because some locations are just ridiculous and unsafe. Also please be honest in advertising as this is not like an escape room or anything interactive, it’s basically a phone app that has places built in selected from google for each town.

Waste of Money!

There was no Alice and no wonderland. If you have seen this sponsored ad on FB and are thinking about it, don't fall for it. It's a scam. The trailer shows an extremely elaborate outdoor escape room and it's false advertising. It's lots of walking while following an app, with no character interaction (as they claimed there would be).Thankfully, it was a beautiful day and we were with good friends making the best of it. This was paying for an app that was a worse version of Pokémon Go. you can have that same experience for free by playing Pokémon Go. Cluedupp promotes this with an overly exaggerated promo trailer, showing an elaborate outdoor escape room. It's misleading. It should be a free app just like Pokémon go or if they wanna charge - be honest and tell people exactly what they are getting for their money. They should drop the theatrical ad that has nothing to do with the experience and stop charging 40-80 bucks which is ridiculous.
People are paying that based on their commercial ads. We were sent through a mall, residential areas, crossing busy streets, hoping that at least there was a cool ending and it was nothing. Crickets.

Great! Until....

I have done several Clued Upp games and my friends and I have enjoyed them immensely. Is it "just" an app that you follow and solve riddles and games on while you walk around town? Yes. AND if you don't know how to make it fun for yourself, neither will they.
HOWEVER, I recently had a hiccup with a Clued Upp game, in which my start code was never delivered to my email. I sent them 2 emails (one the day of, which was a weekend, and one during the average business week); I filled out their contact form on their website; sent them a message on Instagram: all without a response. So I wasted the money for a game I (and my friends) were very much looking forward to playing. I am actually upset by this, as I have talked and bragged about their games in the past. And will not be purchasing another until I hear back from them regarding their lack of response and lack of code.

For all I know this is a scam

I purchased tickets for an event and never got the code so I was unable to participate in an event that I purchased. No one reached out to me even after I emailed multiple times. I want a refund.

Company no longer providing the service

I didn't receive the information to play the game. I received an email last week saying this company was going into liquidation but games were still planned to go ahead. This did not seem to be the case. Such a shame as played before and had a great time.

I paid but never got the code to play

I purchased a ticket back in September or October for a team to play the Witches and Wizards game in Red Deer, Alberta May 25th, 2024. A few weeks before the game I emailed them asking what the date was again. They emailed me back with the above date.
We were so excited to play, I drove all the way to Red Deer and waited for the code they send you to play the game in their app. A few hours before the game I emailed asking where it was, no answer, the event was from 9am until 2pm. In that time I sent numerous emails to both their help email and through their web page. No one ever responded. They still haven't. I'm out $60 and their website says no refund.

Very disappointed!

I had no idea this was a completely app based game. Says kids can play free, but there was absolutely NOTHING for them to do. You just walk around "aimlessly", all while heading toward crime scenes or to "talk to" key people related to the case. Not even half way through, the kids were so bored and tired we just decided to give up and go back to our air bnb we rented since we came from over 100+miles away to play this game.
Completely disappointed!

This company is an abomination

Seems like the company has given up on any sort of customer service altogether. I've sent several e-mails since May 25th. Wrote them on Instagram and was asked for more details and then have been ghosted by them. However, it shows them as an active user everyday. I see so many comments on their social media platforms from people asking for a response, and they won't acknowledge anyone. At this point they need to refund everyone's money and dissolve as a company since they apparently don't want to deliver their product nor do they want to respond to any inquiries regarding it.

Would not recommend!

I did not receive my code or information for playing the Wizardy game. I emailed them 3 times to get the code and did not receive any reply and was not able to join the game. I have requested my money back and still have not gotten a response. Customer service is horrible and I feel completely scammed out of my money.

Scam!

Paid to play, got the app, day arrived and no code for accessing the game was sent. No response to emails. Bought the tickets a year ago so PayPal won't help refund. Do not waste your money.

Not sure if this is a scam

Not sure if this is a scam. I never received any instructions after my initial purchase. Questions I had were answered months prior but the weeks leading up to the day, I never received any emails. On the day of, I tried to call and didn’t get through to anyone. Hopefully I can get a refund. Luckily, my friends and I were able to get brunch and enjoy our day but it was sad to miss out on what seemed like a fun game.

Boardgames and escape rooms are more fun

I realized well before the game started that I had gotten sucked in by the false advertising, so I knew there would be no live players, no augmented reality, and only a regular app on the phone. We met up with some people and went for the Witchcraft and Wizardry, (which is a Harry Potter rip-off) murder mystery. The location was mainly fine, although the starting position was inside the fenced children's play park. The big problem is that the whole "game" is super boring. The locations and tasks are random. It's much more fun to play a boardgame or do a real escape room. We didn't finish the game. Instead, after about an hour and a half, we were too bored with staring at our phones and following random directions. We skipped out on the game and went to lunch and then to the park to listen to music and play more interesting boardgames.

Note that this game is not immersive in any way. it's a lot of reading your phone while walking around to random spots.

Don't Bother.

Loved the game and multiple times, but today did not get a code or any game instructions and zero response from the company. There were over 70+ comments on their Facebook posts about people having this issue and rather than addressing it they chose to delete the posts and not reply to anyone. In the past I would have totally recommended this game as a fun weekend activity but being that we're out a decent amount of money and no reply I cannot do that. Shame.

Lack of communication, did not get to play.

We played for the first time last year and had a lot of fun. We decided to secure tickets immediately after we got home from that event for the one that was to come the following year (May 25, 2024). Our experience this time was the exact opposite. We did not receive any email with the event location or code that we are supposed to use to enter into our app to play. We didn’t get to play at all and we completely rescheduled our weekend to make time for this. They have not been responsive to any methods of contact available and they haven’t communicated with the public about what happened and what they will do to rectify the issue.

Do not buy

After many experiences over the last 5 years we have been so let down this year. 3 different purchases, all of which failed. This is for do any time City Quest adventures that have now been removed from the website. What was once super responsive customer service now I can’t even get a reply. Don’t waste your money, they’ve either changed hands or gone broke but it’s not what it once was. Do not buy.
