C-Net was wonderful once upon a time.

C-Net was wonderful once upon a time.

Now it's full of autoplaying video ads. Or videos slapped in the middle of the page that has nothing at all to do with the article. What a shitshow.

Just no

No. I don't want to subscribe to your mailing list.

Also 0. 0 is the amount of times anyone wanted anything to autoplay in their browser as soon as they visit a website.

Being pestered by CNET

I never had an issue with them before but suddenly mysteriously I started getting annoying notifications from them on my phone. Absolutely do NOT want unsolicited notifications from ANYONE. I don't know why it's so hard for some morons to understand that. I've blocked them in my browser settings, I hope that works.

Cnet used to be a fantastic great…

Cnet used to be a fantastic great website for reviews and technical information. But is absolutely one of the worst now. The webpage is so slow, and is laden with popup adds, the autoplay video, and scrolling adds from top to bottom, so when I try to click on something of interest I end up clicking on an add. There is also a really annoying delay when trying to click on an object!!

This is one frustrating website!!! that I will no longer use for my research. It amazes me how management can make such poor decisions and run companies into the ground!

Auto-playing videos are beyond …

Auto-playing videos are beyond intrusive. I don't care how much your advertisers and shareholders want them, they eviscerate your credibility as a consumer-oriented site. A separate issue is that the site's efficiency in terms of content per kilobyte is appalling and load times suffer as a result. Hate to pile on here but, frankly, the content on this site is mediocre and certainly doesn't justify suffering through your anti-consumer auto-playing video antics.

Recheck everything

If you`re downloading anything from here to install - just recheck every tickbox and menu of the installer on every step. That helps to avoid installing lots of unwanted software. The files themselves are fine, atleast I haven`t downloaded anything wrong yet.

Filled with ads and malware

I cant believe how many people believe this is a trustworthy site. If you want to download software go directly to the company's website and avoid the added malware and million pop ups

Download what you want, and a bunch of garbage you don't want.

Cnet used to be good. That was before they started bundling garbage you don't want with the files you came for. The garbage ranges from innocent but worthless toolbars, to malware that will wreck your computer.
Flat not acceptable. As far as I'm concerned the site is dead.

I'm shocked by the bad reviews!

I am really surprised to see so many negative reviews - my experience of Cnet has always been excellent. I've never had any issues with the software I've downloaded.

Be very wary of CNET ONLINE Downloads.

In short, after downloading a CNET file converting program onto my laptop (which incidentally has AVG anti-virus free and Malware bytes), I believe was instrumental in seriously disabling my PC. Luckily all my valuable files were on a portable hard drive, whilst on the PC hard drive desktop, residing only the operating system and some files of little value. Once I downloaded this file, I noticed that it had brought with it a new browser which I didn't want and another program, if I remember correctly I think, was called "unchecky". I weird name, which does sound a little odd and the warning bells started to ring in my head? I downloaded a test file first to see if it worked and it did "but it not change the file extension" - which was odd !! So then I thought, "come on let's do the whole lot". When I did this, although it said finish, after testing the files out, it had not worked ?? "That's very odd" !, I thought. Then an ERROR message (cannot remember the message fault) came up on the screen - you know those dreaded boxes with red surrounding them. I thought okay, I'll reboot my PC. However, when I did this the screen remained blank, i.e. the desktop icons did not appear. I tried this several times sometimes waiting 10 minutes for something to happen but alas there was no sign of life. My immediate concern was that my PC had contracted a serious virus from this site. In short this has lead me to buy a brand new PC costing an arm and a leg. With it I am extremely wary of downloading anything purported to free however reputable it may appear to be. A serious lesson learnt, there is no such thing as a free gift - there are always strings attached.
