Trying to contact the bank

I have been banking with Commerzbank (or its predecessor) for over 40 years, but they appear not to want to have contact with customers. It is impossible to find a phone number for the branch, let alone an email address of a person to contact. I have submitted an email to the central system, but after 24 hours there is still no answer. This is the worst service I have ever had.

They refuse to pay the referral bonus

So they attract new customers by promising 100 EUR for referring someone. Which I successfully did.
Then they tell you that the bonus is paid out after 3 months.
You keep waiting. After you're done waiting, you ask them where's the bonus.
And here's the kicker: they invent a new rule to back out of paying the bonus. They now claim that the new customer needs to have at least 5 transactions every month, otherwise the bonus is void. This rule is not mentioned anywhere.

A truly disgusting behavior.

P.S. I've been with Commerzbank for ~7 years. Will think about taking my business elsewhere in 2024.

Among the best in customer support in the world

I have had many banks across the world but my experience with Commerzbank has so far been the best banking experience for the past 5 years with this bank. The customer service at the filiale is always great with English support. The App is great especially with the ability to directly call from the app to customer service. I had issues with changing my address and it was resolved quickly and amicably through calling customer service with the Banking App. Commerzbank gives so much confidence that they are on your side in terms of banking matters, and that is a good feeling.

Suspicious Fraud activity ignored by Commerzbank

After blocking my card due to obvious and sudden fraudulent activity on my credit card, they erased my bank statements so that I had no access to view each payment, meaning I could not claim anything back. After 15 phone calls and 2 visits to the branch in person over 1.5 weeks, there is no resolution and I was told to keep trying to claim - despite having no bank statements to view how much the fraud was. They passed me around between different people and nobody seems to know how to deal with the fraud. I would NOT suggest to ever use this bank, after 10 years as a loyal premium customer, this was my first issue and it was a very serious one. This is the time when your money is at risk, that they should support you and guide you through the process to reclaim your account and secure it. They did not care about the fraudulent activity and I am now suspicious that my data is being abused in their system. For them to erase my bank statements is very suspicious and even the staff inside the branch were confused. Nobody can give me answers and the helplines have no clue how to support in this situation. I feel like I have hit a brick wall and the tole this has taken on my mental health and anxiety has been terrible.

I went to the bank today to deposit…

I went to the bank today to deposit coins. Before I went to the bank I checked on the website to see the opening hours for this Trier FIliale. Said it was open until 6pm. I get there and a guard tells me the bank is closed until next week because they are doing construction. I have come home and the webpage says the bank is open. Not even a sign on the bank door to tell us they are closed for another week!!!!!! Disgraceful service.

Worst bank in the known world

Worst bank in the known world. Kundenberatungservice does not bother to answer mails at all, you get an automated number and that's it. Beschwerdemanagement (complaint centre) will send you an automated e-mail once a month asking you to wait 14 more days for their reply. After waiting this way for two months, I called the complaint centre by phone. First 3 calls they told me the lady responsible for my case was not in her office. When I called the 4th time, I was told there was no such thing as someone responsible for my case. A bunch of gangsters, not a bank. Stay away!!!

Refused to open business bank account

I want top establish a company, and did all the paperwork to open a bank account at commerzbank since it was the most known one for small business. After waiting more than two weeks, they call us and they tell us they can't open a bank account. They refused to give the reason. It's very shady.

It was a stormy night in Iceland...

So here we were, enjoying our holidays in Iceland, sheltered from the huge storm with red alerts that was starting to pour, as if it was a bad ommen.
Sure enough, my husband and me tried to enter the Mobile banking App from Commerzbank to check a couple of things... Only to discover that we couldn't. We froze. Could it be that they closed our account... 2 months before we wrote in the letter we had to send by post (by post, XXI century guys...) to request the account closure?

This had already happened when trying to close another account with them, where they alltogether decided to ignore the closure date and closed it... Immediately. But they couldn't be SO terrible as to do it wrong AGAIN, right...?

Unsettled, we tried to call the bank, praising and using all the German we learned (English is just not a thing with them), only to receive a "I can't see anything from you. It may have been closed. Call on Monday".

And we asked ourselves, what will be different on Monday, and how will our last bills and salaries be paid in what was meant to be our couple last months in Germany without a german IBAN account anymore.

Coming to Germany? Not with Commerzbank guys. Just don't. Don't be fooled by their fee-free accounts (they will charge you anyway "by mistake" the first month and good luck trying to make them stop). Don't dream about having a secure office in the corner for complaints (they will anyway close it a few months later and if you want to follow that only person that speaks a bit of English during your first steps in the country and its language you will have to travel far, far away in the search of jis next office placement... assuming he has not been fired). Do not trust the post-only communication, nor the option to make the letters stop from arriving in favour of making it to your email... Because you will still receive them on your postbox, reminding you of your past mistakes and poor decisions.

Be smarter. Run away.

I am helping my father to get in touch…

I am helping my father to get in touch with his German bank, Commerzbank. He recently transferred money to his UK account but there is still no sign of it. We tried several times to contact the Customer Service but no one picks up! He urgently needs his money, he is a pensioner who need to pay his bills. Every time, we try to email them we get the same answer...to call the customer service. How can we sort this out if no one picks up?! It's very worrying that we cannot get in touch with someone.

Never dealing with Commerzbank again

My wife had an absolutely appalling experience with Commerzbank just a couple of days ago. Despite being in the heart of Berlin and promoting themselves as an expat-friendly bank, the branch associate refused to speak in English, despite my wife's polite request. It is entirely reasonable to expect that in such a cosmopolitan city, the bank staff should be proficient in English.

After finally conceding to speak in English, my wife submitted her documents and had additional queries about opening a joint account with me. Shockingly, the executive responded rudely and unprofessionally, demanding 7 euros upfront before addressing any of her questions. This behavior is utterly unacceptable and reflects poorly on the reputation of Commerzbank as a supposedly reputable financial institution.

The lack of support for English-speaking customers is extremely disappointing. It forces us to physically visit the bank with our inquiries, which is an inconvenience and time-consuming. We tried our best to navigate the German-language options on the phone, enduring a frustrating 30-minute wait, but we were never attended to by any call center representative.

This kind of treatment is deeply disheartening and completely contradictory to the image that Commerzbank projects as an expat-friendly bank. Such unprofessional behavior and lack of customer support in English make it difficult for us to trust the bank with our financial needs. Commerzbank must address these issues promptly and improve their customer service if they wish to maintain any credibility as a reliable banking institution. As of now, we are left with no choice but to seriously reconsider our association with Commerzbank.

Clearly the reviews say it all

Clearly the reviews say it all. A bunch of incompetent people, slow answers and do not solve any issues. I have had a mortgage with them for 6 years now, I am trying to make a downpayment to reduce the amount but nobody answer, nobody knows how to do it and they are "threatening" of penalties. No idea why they are so incompetent. In old times you could at least go to the branch and tell them how s***t they are but now they closed most of the branches. Nobody also wants to speak in english. Typical from them..what a terrible bank!

Terrible customer service (phone)

Wish I could give negative stars. I have multiple accounts at Commerzbank for many years, but their lack of decent customer service is what will cost them customers. How difficult is it to answer politely on the phone? Rude, arrogant and not helpful. Time to switch the bank for a better customer service provider.
