Having visited the diy kitchen showroom…

Having visited the diy kitchen showroom I was impressed with the quality of the kitchens on display, me and my wife found one that we both liked and and went home to do the order online. Everything went smoothly was delivered on the date provided but when it came to fitting practically every door had defect in the paint work, I contacted them over this and they were great to be fair and replaced everything that had a fault, however I think the paint quality is very poor as it scratches off way to easy for a kitchen that is going to take a knock or be caught by something your putting in a cupboard and this is very disappointing, It must be such a thin coat they put on as this shouldn’t scratch so easily

I took my time when making the decision…

I took my time when making the decision to order my kitchen from you, and initially it took a bit of time to use the online planning tool but it has been worth it.
The support is fab and all questions were answered within a couple of days as you state. Telephoned once just before ordering to check on delivery dates and when I had a problem screen capturing my plan for the electrical work that was sorted for me by Claire M. All the people I received help from were fabulous and I would highly recommend this company and look forward to getting my new kitchen fitted. Thank you

Extremely disappointed with DIY…

Extremely disappointed with DIY Kitchens.

We have spent around £17,000 on our kitchen and, having been promised a great service throughout, the experience has completely fallen apart when it comes to delivery.

We have been told:

“Your kitchen will be delivered on TUESDAY 1ST OR WEDNESDAY 2ND SEPTEMBER ONLY between 8am–10pm. You will receive a text at least 1 hr before delivery.”

So effectively, we are expected to keep two entire days free, from 8am until 10pm, with no confirmed delivery day or meaningful time slot.

What makes this even more frustrating is that the same communication then warns customers, in bold red, that failure to accept delivery can result in a £150 administration charge, £20 per day storage, a possible 6–8 week delay before redelivery and potentially another £150 redelivery charge.

So DIY Kitchens can give themselves a 28-hour delivery window across two days, but the customer is threatened with significant charges if they are not available when DIY Kitchens eventually decide to arrive.

I complained about this and was told a manager would call me back. Two days later, I am still waiting.

I genuinely cannot remember receiving such poor service after spending this amount of money with a company.

I guess this is the level of customer service £17,000 gets you.

Shocking.

With regards the reply below, I was only told the working day before that it was being delivered either the next working day or the day after, up until then it could have been any day over a 5 day period, so I’ve been in complete limbo as communication was very poor, I was chasing for confirmation and finally got a call back at 4;30pm to be told it’s coming next working day or the day after. Which is a reflection on how you value your customers I guess.

Poor Quality

Been wanting a new kitchen for a good couple of years. So trailed round the usual suspects, Wickes, Bench Mark, Howdens etc. Then came across DIY kitchens, never heard of them before.

Reviews all seemed good, prices seemed good, and they had a big showroom down in South Kirby about an hours drive for me. So off we went to visit said showroom. First impressions were, "WOW", what beautiful kitchens, and the quality was outstanding, better than anything I'd seen previous by a country mile.

So after 3 visits in total, we decided to go with DIY Kitchens. So spend around 10K on the kitchen, and of course expecting the same exceptional quality on display in the afore mention showroom. Well, as it turns out, nothing could be further from the truth. Problems have included the following....

The sink unit doors when adjusted to their max on the hinges, still have a gap of nearly 1 cm between them when closed. It is impossible to get them closer. The doors are navy blue and the units are light oak in colour. So when closed you can clearly see the light oak showing between the gap. DIY kitchens solution was to send out some dark grey banding, which I had to stick on the sink unit (with Glue) to hide the light oak finish.

This has helped to a certain extend but does not eradicate the fact that either the doors were made the wrong size, or the sink unit was. This problem was an issue on the oven housing unit also. Another problem, which has recently come to light, is that the dishwasher door (all doors foil wrapped) has started to peel/delaminate on one of the edges. In fact, although the kitchen was installed in April 26, we have only used the dishwasher 4 or 5 times, due to an issue with the levelling mechanism at the back of the dishwasher, which I had to pay £160 to a local kitchen appliance firm to come out and fix it. This extra cost was due to the fact that trying to claim on the 5 year AEG warranty is a waste of time, not DIY kitchens fault, but still a major issue.

Anyway, I honestly thought that all the kitchens in the DIY showroom were actually made by DIY kitchens. Apparently, that's not the case. The doors on my kitchen are made by an unspecified third party. So there is definitely a quality control issue there. This peeling/delamination issue has also been found on the base boards as well.

In fact some of the off cuts, where you had a cut edge, it was very easy to peel off the wrap, although other bits were stuck solid to be fair. This leads me to believe that on some of the wrapped surfaces, either the adhesive was lacking, or the MDF wasn't primed correctly. Which is almost definitely the problem on the dishwasher door.

So I have put in a claim with DIY Kitchens, now Howdens, and will await there response. Now here's the thing, I may have just been unlucky, meaning all other kitchens sold to customers are of the same excellent quality displayed in their showroom, or maybe not. The one thing that will persist with me, is the absolute disappointment I feel every time I look at my kitchen. C'est La Vie, as they say in France.

Update - 28/08/2026
I have now contacted Trading Standards, who have advised me of my rights under the goods and services act 2015. They've advised that I put my concerns in writing in the first instance, giving a reasonable amount of time(14 days) for DIY kitchens to respond. I have also contacted 2 kitchen fitters, re fitting a new panel to the dishwasher, and the cost is around £200. So, due to the fault with the panel, I will be perusing a claim against DIY kitchens, if this problem is not resolved.

Update 2
DIY kitchens fitter came and gitba new door. Said it was water damage on the top edge of the door.

When I visited the DIY kitchens showroom, one of my main concerns regarding the foil wrapped doors, was that I'd read of many complaints about the wrap delaminating . So I asked about this in the showroom,.

I was told that the doors were wrapped in a way that hid the wrap seams under the centre door panel, basically they were wrapped all the way around each component that makes up the door. The fitter who replaced the door said that's not the case, cad the foil on the door edged was glued on separate.

So I've searched on line cand one solution suggests applying transparent tape all along the top edges of the doors. May I remind DIY kitchens of one simple fact, kitchen doors are going the get water on them from time to time, it's a bl***y kitchen. It's a clear case of poor quality manufacturing. If I had the money, I'd rip the whole kitchen out and install a decent quality one. My old kitchen (hygena now Wren) was 30 years old, and the veneered doors never delaminated, even on the sink unit.

This DIY kitchen is failing already, after just 5 months.

SHOCKING

DIY Kitchens Review: Shocking Service and Damaged UnitsI am extremely disappointed with my experience with DIY Kitchens. The customer service is shocking and communication is terrible.Key Issues ExperiencedHidden and Unfair Charges: I was charged £350 for storing my units. When I queried this, I received an email saying they could not even find the charge in their system.Damaged Goods: Out of 35 pieces delivered, 10 pieces arrived damaged.Ignored Communication: My emails were constantly ignored, leading to massive delays. I had to threaten to cancel my entire order just to get a response.Lost Fitters: Because of the severe delays and poor handling, I lost my kitchen fitters and had to scramble to find a replacement.Faulty Systems: Their online portal was broken throughout the process, making it nearly impossible to track anything properly.Insulting Compensation: After all this stress, they offered a mere £150 goodwill payment, which I have rightfully refused.Avoid this company if you want a smooth and stress-proven kitchen buying experience.taking this matter further

I'm in 2 minds.

I'm in 2 minds.

First of all, the kitchen is great, I'm absolutely made up with it, not only the way it looks but the quality of it and the price too. I designed it all myself and it's come exactly as ordered and really happy with how it's all fit in. So in terms of the finished product it's brilliant

However, the service I received was poor. While they were quick to respond whenever I contacted them, there were a few things that made the process difficult:
First issue was when I designed my kitchen, before I paid for it I wanted a professional to look over it, I couldn't see a way of doing this other than then you submitting the dimensions and layout you were after and they designed it for you, I didn't want that, I'd already done my design but just wanted someone to oversee it and let me know of any issues that might come. Obviously a kitchen isn't cheap regardless of the size, it's still a lot of money to pay out, so I called them to see what the process was and if someone would look at my design, the person on the phone was good and assured me that, once submitted, someone still reviews your design and comes back with queries, they then said if they don't hear a response over email then they will attempt to call you before anything goes further. They emailed me on Sunday and by Tuesday they emailed me saying I was too late and the design had been submitted as is. Barely 2 days and no other attempts made to get in touch after a single email. I had to call them and they then passed on the message that I will be in touch shortly so luckily that was sorted however it put stress on the situation already.

Second issue was the delivery process. You selected a WC date that you wanted it delivered in, however all they could tell you was that at some point in that week you will receive a text to give you a 2 day window and it will be delivered in 1 of those 2 days, notifying you 1 hour before the actual delivery time. Fortunately again I called them and managed to narrow it down to between Thursday and Sunday, I only found this out after calling them. I was struggling to have someone to attend the house on the Thursday however every other day of that week would've been fine, when I told them this there was no help offered, I was told I would have to reschedule and pay additional storage fee's if I really wanted to, this was based on the chance that I came on 1/4 of the days it was possibly coming so I managed to stretch to just about make arrangements for someone to be there on the off-chance it came that day. I was also not very happy with the clarity of only being given a 2 day window, so I emailed asking in simple terms when I receive the notification of my 2 day window, does that mean I have to sit/have someone sit in the house for both of those 2 days waiting for another text that it was coming within an hour? To which they replied yes, I will receive a text the evening before my 2 day window (between 4pm and 5:30pm) and that's all I'll really know, so therefore that meant that from Wednesday onwards I was glued to my phone between those times to see if I needed to sit/have someone sit at home all day potentially the next 2 days. Eventually I received the text Friday afternoon and it told me it was coming Saturday, so no 2 day window just a single day given. This was a far better outcome than the original guidance, but it didn't match what they had been saying all along, why make it so stressful beforehand? When delivered the lads were great and on time so no problem there, this complaint is more to do with the customer service provided prior. It seems that they use a 3rd party delivery service, which is fine, but their attitude is that it's in the delivery companies hands now and no one knows what's going on until it happens, no control for the person who's actually paid the money. Also worth mentioning, the oven/hob/extractor fan came separate from different delivery companies and they were great, giving texts with plenty of notice, allowing you to select certain dates and times and keeping you up to date with tracking.

Final comment is small but could have really helped, there's no detailed designs for the installer given with the kitchen on delivery or available on the website only a screenshot of the design online. A print off given with delivery would've really helped my installer however I was fortunately there to advise.

Overall, kitchen is absolutely great, customer service I feel was poor

*Note after seeing their reply stating the delivery policy is clearly stated* As stated in my review, the 2day window that you're supposed receive the evening before wasn't true. I received a 1day window the afternoon before (which was better), my complaint was regarding the fact that this doesn't match your delivery policy, your delivery policy actually makes to whole thing more stressful than it needs to be.
