Bacon and Hams outstanding but sadly the Buttermilk Pork Milanese is unpleasant, overly seasoned and thick crust, only left on trustpilot as dukeshill site allows me to write the review but no button to submit it.

DISAPPOINTING NO DELIVERY! - We ordered a ham on the 8th July to be delivered on 31st July to Tresco in the Scilly Isles for a family 70th birthday celebration whilst on holiday there. Knowing that delivery to the Scilly Isles can be tricky (2 years ago the ham arrived 3 days late), we wanted to give them plenty of time to arrange the delivery - DukesHill's website states that delivery to the mainland takes 1 day and to the islands in the UK, 2 days - despite calling DukesHill Customer Service on Friday 31st July and Saturday 1st August and being told that delivery would definitely be on Saturday (1 day late) nothing was received. On Saturday afternoon DPD's website was showing that the item had been delivered but on further investigation and numerous phone calls on Monday morning we found out that it had been delivered but to DPD's own depot in Hayle, where it then takes up to 7 days to be delivered to the islands!!! How can DukeHill use a company that operates like this for perishable goods. Whilst some blame may be apportioned to DPD, why state on your website that it only takes 2 days for island deliveries? when I was clearly told by DPD that they wait for a full pallet before they deliver to the islands - After our 6th call to DukesHill we were told we could have a refund or they could send another ham by a different courier that would definitely get there in 2 days (5 days late) - our question must be why wasn't this alternative courier used in the first place? no-one wants to receive a perishable item 11 days after it has been despatched! and why would we now want a ham that missed the birthday celebration and we only have 2 further days left of our holiday. Whilst this is not a review on the actual product (we have nothing to review!) it is a huge disappointment that after numerous phone calls and a clear lack of customer service we have received no apology from DukesHill who must take responsibility for the delivery of the items they dispatch. We have ordered from DukesHill before but I very much doubt we will again as we have zero confidence that we will actually receive our order.

I was disappointed because from the outset I was under the impression that the produce was everything I was looking for. I did order but was bitterly disappointed with the taste, I was expecting dry old fashioned bacon and got watery white glunky liquid in the pan!
They did get in touch when I complained and gave me a me a complimentary order but I was so disappointed I never ordered again! Such a shame because from the pictures on line it looks like the bees knees. The delivery was very good .

delivery service was chaotic, instructions to leave in a cool place ignored, insufficient ice block packaging for high summer temperature, sadly after many years of successful and efficient order proccess,I feel I have been completely let down.

I visited Dukes Hill because I was specifically looking for genuinely nitrate and nitrite free bacon.
The website immediately creates the impression of exceptional quality and traditional craftsmanship. It proudly describes itself as "Champions of the Artisan" and speaks about its unwavering commitment to quality, authenticity and traditional methods.
Their Smoked Dry Cured Back Bacon continues the same theme, describing "proper British bacon", "time honoured smoked dry cured back bacon", "dry cured by hand", "artisan bacon like it used to be", "British outdoor bred pork", "traditional British methods" and "award winning quality".
Reading this, I naturally expected a product made with simple, traditional ingredients.
Then I looked at the ingredients.
Alongside the British pork, salt and Demerara sugar were potassium nitrate, sodium nitrite and sodium ascorbate, exactly the curing additives I had been trying to avoid.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with a company choosing to use these preservatives. They are widely used throughout the meat industry and customers can make their own informed decisions.
My criticism is something quite different.
The marketing creates an image of artisan food, traditional methods and authenticity, yet the ingredients reveal a conventionally cured bacon using the same preservatives found in countless supermarket products. That simply wasn't what I was expecting after reading the website.
This wasn't an impulse purchase. I had specifically searched online for nitrate and nitrite free bacon and Dukes Hill appeared to fit that brief. I had even bought bacon from another artisan supplier so we could cook them side by side in a taste test.
That idea disappeared as soon as I read the ingredients.
What disappointed me most was the contrast between the carefully crafted marketing and the reality of the product. There is so much emphasis on craftsmanship, heritage and tradition that it is very easy for customers to assume the ingredients reflect that philosophy.
They don't.
If you're happy buying conventionally cured bacon containing potassium nitrate and sodium nitrite, you'll probably enjoy it.
However, if, like me, you're specifically trying to avoid these additives, don't rely on the beautifully written descriptions. Read the ingredients first.
In my opinion, the marketing promises far more than the product actually delivers, and I came away feeling disappointed.

My order (which was for a special occasion) did not arrive. I phoned Dukeshill the following day, who were already away that there was an issue with the parcel, yet they hadn’t let me know!
There was no time to re order. Dukeshill offered a refund.
Had they let me know I wouldn’t have been left waiting all day, and would have had time to re order. We will not order again.
A member of the team offered me a refund. Nothing more, nothing less, and that was after I had emailed them.
