Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 84 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many found the driving test booking process extremely difficult and frustrating due to a severe lack of available slots, often leading to months of waiting and expired theory tests. This outdated system enabled third-party reselling of slots at inflated prices, with overall service frequently described as poor and disorganized. However, some reviewers praised examiners for their professionalism and ability to put them at ease during tests. Conversely, others felt dissatisfied with staff, citing impatient, rude, or unprofessional behavior. Some customers also experienced unexpected changes to test centre locations, sometimes far from their original booking, causing inconvenience.

Cancelled driving test on the day

In March my son had his test cancelled on the day, it’s now nearly June and he hasn’t received out of pocket expenses from the OPEC team. They are willing to take quick enough and cancel his test, but not willing to pay back money owed, unable to speak to the team and emails take days for a reply. A very slow, clunky service with no customer support.

His personality and calmness was exemplary. Once I started I did not even remember I was doing an exam. I don’t know how he did it but he manage to
Reassure me In such a way where I no longer felt nervous . The way he gave the directions etc But this is what you called experience . Thanks Steve I hope you get the chance to train other examiners one day if you already not doing so

Ross and Danielle

I want to thank examiners Ross and Danielle for being great on my ADI part 3 exam taken in Baillieston. I was very nervous throughout the exam but at the end we had a constructive chat and enjoyed the time spent for feedback. Because of this I will be less stressed on my future standards check and score higher.

Excessive delays, short notice cancellations

Had a test cancelled less than 2 weeks beforehand, and was given a new test well over a month away. This is apparently due to issues caused by COVID, despite lockdown ending almost 3 years ago. Call centre staff are unable to help, and there is no compensation whatsoever for the additional lesson time between the old and new test date.

Booking test in Gillingham centre is a joke! And examinators will keep failing without explanation properly! I take my 3x and do exactly what the examiner asked but he failed me again! Booking for another test it takes hours to get a space and I’m still no luck after trying . DVSA makes people pay more together with time consuming and anxiety disorders!

User hostile.

Their website seems to be set up to be as hostile as possible. It took me a good hour to find a combination of browser and device that would let me log in.
They appear to be paranoid about being hacked, to the extent that it's almost unusable. I can and have logged into bank websites from dodgy parts of the world, but oh no, the DVSA won't let you access it from outside the UK. (My daughter, whose test it is, is currently away.)
And when I did get in there were no slots at my local centre, none. So I suspected their website was faulty, and phoned. Bad idea, 25 minute wait hanging on.
If it weren't a monopoly I'd never use them again.

KINGSWINFORD/PENSNETT TRADING ESTATE DRIVING CENTRE

KINGSWINFORD/PENSNETT TRADING ESTATE DRIVING CENTRE
Told unobservant after describing the 2 cars I was told by tester I did not see. Not sure how I am able to accurately describe two vehicles I apparently never saw but ok. I think your own observational skills need checking, not my own. Tester believes I should go above 45mph on poor road conditions whilst giving poor directions (less than 2 car spaces to take the next right) This is the opposite of what the highway code says to do in poor road conditions and on an unfamiliar road. I came from the test not knowing why I failed (still do not understand why) and now under the belief that to pass the SAFETY test I need to drive unsafely when in poor conditions. Poor tester, poor centre. After 19yrs of testing the tester seems to have become very lackadaisical when in the passenger seat. As a person with a FULL motorcycle license of nearly 3 decades (10yrs longer than the tester has had a licence), my observation is on point hence still being alive and not having any accidents.
Tester questioned my vision because I could not make out a very dirty number plate with a smudged letter, Only had my eyes tested by an optician In January who was shocked by how well my eye sight was, especially with long distances. Yes, you could read it Mr tester because you know the vehicle and who it belongs to and see it daily. If I knew the car also I wouldn't need to be able to make out the letters either, I don't need to look at my own reg number to tell you it, same as you didn't look at that number on the car to tell me it, you probably didn't even see how filthy it was. Ask me to view a clean, legal number plate and I won't have any issue as I proved later with a car further away than the one you originally asked for. This place will fail you because their testers don't watch what the driver is actually doing and then claim you are the unobservant one

A little tip

I’ve just had a driving test at Hinckley. It wasn’t my 1st choice so not driven in Hinckley.
Good tip there is a road that turns to a no- entry, it’s obviously to check your reading signs. If your like me you see the sign are very confused & then see right turn you should take by which point too late a fail. Very annoyed with self
