Frustrating, outdated, and unreliable

eBay feels like a platform stuck in the 90s, and their tracking system is a joke. I paid $40 for shipping on a package that just arrived at a pickup point after 2 months!!! eBay marked it as “delivered” the moment it got there - even though I haven’t received it yet. Another package showed as delivered... in a completely different country.

Sellers are often unresponsive, returns are a headache, and fake or useless tracking info is everywhere. Their support can be decent at times, which is more than I can say for some other sites, but overall it’s a frustrating experience. If you want a smooth, trustworthy shopping experience, eBay is not it. I’m done wasting my time and money here.

eBay blocks fraud and technical issue reports

I tried to contact eBay to report a clear case of fraud — but it’s literally impossible.

The reporting form doesn’t work at all: after filling in every required field, it always ends with the message “report could not be sent.”
When I turned to the chatbot, it simply redirected me in endless loops back to the same broken form. There is no working email address or phone number to reach a real person. Even the form to report technical issues is riddled with errors: after clicking “Send,” a new required field suddenly appears — the mobile number — and the form throws an error saying the number is missing, even though the field was never visible before. Worse still, when I try to enter my Dutch number (+31), the country code selector automatically resets to Germany (DE), making it impossible to provide my correct Dutch number. And when finally sending the form, I don’t even receive a confirmation that my request has been submitted.

This is completely unacceptable — and also violates EU consumer law. Under Articles 5(1)(c) and 6(1)(c) of Directive 2011/83/EU, companies are legally obliged to provide a direct and effective means of communication, especially in cases involving fraud or contractual disputes.

To make matters worse, the technical service has now responded to my request — in which I explicitly asked them to forward my complaint to the Complaint Department, the IT Department, and the Compliance Department.
I also requested that my buyer protection (“Käuferschutz”) be activated — yet this was completely ignored in their reply.
Instead, this person simply repeated the same instructions on how to report a fraudulent item — the very steps that triggered the error message in the first place. My other request for confirmation that my message was forwarded to the proper departments was completely ignored.

This lack of accountability and transparency is deeply troubling. eBay must urgently address its technical failures and legal compliance gaps — and finally take responsibility for protecting honest buyers.

In the end, I’ve basically served as a free website and compliance tester for eBay — and they still ignore me. What a disappointing level of service and reliability from such a renowned company.

Fakers paradise

Fakers paradise, yet eBay is promoted by likes of PCGS ?
Bought a coin that is possibly fake, Then noticed a site listing same coin with wrong weight & diameter size ? How can this be !
Reported coin to Ebay, could not see anything wrong ? Sent English coin company a message with correct information, who replied "message from: englishcoincompany (113,279RED_SHOOTING_STAR Star)
Looks like we put down the wrong diameter on the listing thanks for letting me know ill adjust when we update next time."
Over 5048 sales, surely if something is wrong it should be corrected immediately & not dismissed by ebay.
A company that is there for self profit, & will use bad practises to obtain.
I now will not purchase again from this un-lawful company, no point in complaining to them as they will block you & thumb you off.
Terrible behaviour from them have all the no-reply emails intact will copy last one that produces no re-course, just send you around in circles.

I bought a product

I bought a product, that turned out to be a fake one. I took advice from the support to contact the seller, wich I did. The seller didn't respond at all. The seller is still selling his/her fake on ebay. Ebay support promised to refund me, 2 months ago, which didn't happen yet. Now is the case at "specialized team" as they say. I do not recommend anything affiliated with ebay at all

I can understand now why I use Prime

I ordered a watch {Order number:
15-13560-02041} via ebay. I was informed it was to be delivered via Evri within a range of a week. It did not arrive and it will not track - says there is a problem. Trying to get any sense out of their digital customer service is a joke. This comes over as an amateur operation trying to avoid running a proper customer service.

As a small customer

As a small customer, you're stuck here; management only cares about the salespeople who mean more to them. There's no justice, and customer protection is a low priority here.
Although it is clear from the contact form and the correspondence that the seller cheated me, the company did nothing and agreed with the seller.

No mails from seller. Custommer support is disgrace, can not reach anyone. Have been buyer for many years, but they become bad to the customers and will think twice next time if I will buy something from there

DO NOT SELL ON GERMAN EBAY

The sale money is held unnecessarily and for too long, This gives the buyer the opportunity to cheat by complaining about a defective product and getting a price reduction.
It is not fair that the seller does not get the money when the product is sold, they have to wait until the buyer receives the product and is satisfied
I will not sell on German ebay anymore

Unjustified suspension, rude support, and funds indefinitely withheld without reason

eBay permanently blocked my account without providing any clear reason immediately after I made a legitimate sale. They are now unjustly withholding my money from this completed sale, and customer service has refused to explain or help in any meaningful way.

Repeated calls to their customer support were met with dismissiveness, hostility, and outright rudeness. One agent even disconnected the call rather than accept a formal complaint.

I've used eBay successfully in the past, but this experience has completely destroyed my trust in them. Sellers beware: eBay can (and will) arbitrarily lock your account, refuse to restore it, refuse to communicate why, and hold onto your earnings indefinitely without explanation. Absolutely shocking experience that is almost certainly illegal, but they get away with it regardless.

I purchased a Lenovo M11 tablet screen…

I purchased a Lenovo M11 tablet screen on eBay for around €67. However, the screen I received was not for the Lenovo M11, and it also arrived broken.

I contacted the seller, who said they couldn’t send a return label but instead offered to cover the return shipping cost. However, when I checked with the post office, I was told that a return label would cost nearly €40. I informed the seller about this, but they only sent me €9. I refused to accept that amount and returned the money to the seller via PayPal. I asked them again to provide a proper return label, but they refused.

So, I reported the issue to eBay. Unfortunately, I accidentally closed the refund case because the page was in German. When I translated it to English, I realized it was already closed. I’ve tried to contact eBay multiple times, but I still haven’t received any response.

I’m very disappointed and will never shop on eBay again.

eBay is a disaster for honest sellers

Thank you, eBay! Your buyer protection program is a disgrace for honest sellers. After I verifiably shipped my goods abroad (outside the EU) (with a tracking ID), which can lead to longer delivery times (duty costs), the buyer refused to wait and filed a claim for buyer protection. After just a few hours, your excellent and fair buyer protection ruled in favor of the buyer without consulting me. Meanwhile, the buyer has the goods and the money and refuses to pay. Thank you, eBay buyer protection! I alone bear the loss now, and you protected a fraudster. Bravo! Never again eBay!

I actually would love to have given 5 stars. I can always find what I'm looking for on eBay. I just made a purchase of 2 sleeves of Nespresso Vertuo coffee for 12.95. I probably should have been paying attention, because the shipping was outrageous at 14.95. At 2.00 more than my purchase.Regardless pkg didn't even weigh a lb. I started noticing that all of the shipping costs, if it's not Free Shipping are Extremely High. I'm not sure why but I believe they are totally overcharging for shipping costs. This ruins the shopping experience with them on many items.

What was an easy no nonsense site for selling items has messed up big style... now a tedious frustrating mine field with ebay coming up with way's to complicate and money grab from the most important people... it's account holders. Ebay should remember there are other site to buy and sell on.

Absolutely brilliant!! Stop buying on Amazon - Ebay is so much better!! The site is so much easier to use, so much better programmed and organised, and customer service is a million times better.
I don't understand at all why people left bad reviews here. I have bought and sold thousands of items on Ebay over the last 10+ years and my experience has been 99.99999% positive!

Denmark? Ebay.de, at your own risk.

I live in Denmark. If you order from ebay.de (Germany) and you DON’T speak German, you have to know what you are buying, or get a good website translator app. Without it, you are likely to get zero help, because 80% of the time, even though you write to them in English, they write back in German.
That alone is reason enough for misunderstandings.

Worse; some of the shipping services from Germany do not properly report to our general national post service, Post Nord, so they ship out your package, Ebay.de provides a tracking link, you get a message from the seller’s system telling you, “you were not home so we placed it at a local pick up location”. Here, our digital Post Nord (National Postal Service) identifies your package by your mobile nr and adds it to your Post Nord app. You get a "You will soon get an email letting you know where and when it is available for pick up.” You pick it up by identifying yourself and the package, with your Post Nord app scan, through your mobile phone.
BUT if they did not report your mobile nr correctly, you just never get informed through our Danish postal service app, Post Nord, which is how we receive packages here.

I got the Ebay.de standard message "estimated time of arrival” as in, for example; “expected delivery between May 1st and May 12”, AND nothing arrived a week past expected delivery, with zero email from either Seller or Ebay.de
- I contacted the seller and based on no delivery as notified, I asked for a refund.
The seller responded in German, telling me to contact my post office. I asked them to confirm that they had given the shipper the correct mobile nr., because I had zero records of the shipment, in my Post Nord app.

- Ignoring my request for them to confirm my mobile nr with the shipper or even let me know that they already had, instead of responding, they just opened a case against me. Ebay.de decided Seller was right because I had received tracking info. ?????
I lost 100 Euro, while the seller had the package returned to them automatically, because I did not pick it up, ZERO refunds.
Learn German before you purchase on Ebay.de or stay away, unless you like wasting your time and money.

My experience went from buying an item, getting tracking on Ebay, which means in a couple of days it would show on my personal Post Nord app in Denmark with all relevant info for pick up… but with this seller, the info did not get to Post Nord or I would know it. I inform the seller that the package has not arrived within the window of expected delivery (10 days past window), so I ask for a refund. Seller sends me a message to contact the local post office to find the package. I explain that if it was reported to the local Postal Office system in Denmark I would already have that info. So I asked them to confirm if they had added my mobile nr correctly and if not, please to do so, and their next action was to open a case against me, which Ebay.de decided they should win so I lost 100 Euro.
I had an Ebay account in the US with 100% feedback on some 20- 300 sales and purchases before I decided to close my account do to an issue with a purchase that went wrong and Paypal decided to ignore. There is always Amazon. And I am still happy for it, 7 years since I closed my Ebay.com account.
I always put the buyer first so I tend to expect the same form other sellers. In Europe I have bought from Ebay Italy, UK, Spain, France… and Germany. I have bought drones, camera lenses, boating equipment, climbing gear, food, electronics… never major issues, except for on Ebay.de And then it goes very wrong.
If you DON’T speak German, DO NOT buy anything on Ebay.de - Your time savings are worth much more. I absolutely guarantee that.
Ebay.de and all other EU Ebay should be forced to have a translated service on their website, like Amazon has. You choose your language on Amazon.
Update:
Ebay has recognized the error and refunded the full amount. That does not absolve the seller “motus-shop_de” from poor service and opening a case against me instead of having a DIALOG to find out where the package could be found.
And Ebay is responsible for the management of their sellers.
