I instructed this firm to act as my solicitors for the sale of my property. Before I officially instructed them, communication was frequent. I was contacted regularly while discussing the quote and arranging for an initial payment to open my file. Once I had paid the requested funds and completed all of the paperwork they asked for, the communication changed completely.
I was waiting for the memorandum of sale and had a simple question to ask. However, since instructing the firm, I had never been introduced to the person handling my case or even informed who my file had been assigned to.
I first emailed on Monday and received no response. I then called on Tuesday morning and was told that the person dealing with my file was busy but would call me back later that day. No one called.
I called again on Wednesday morning and was given the exact same response—that they were busy and would call me back. After waiting hours, I called again, only to be told the same thing for a third time. Again, no callback.
After three days of trying to get an answer to a straightforward question, I completely lost confidence in the firm’s level of communication. If they couldn’t return a simple call before the transaction had even properly begun, I had serious concerns about how they would handle the rest of my sale.
I therefore emailed to say that I no longer wished to use their services and asked them to close my file. Ironically, that was the first time I received a prompt response from the person supposedly handling my case. They claimed they had tried to call me, but I know this wasn’t true. I carry my business phone with me at all times, had no missed calls or voicemails, and never received the promised callback.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this firm. It felt as though I received plenty of attention while they were trying to secure my business, but once I had paid and become a client, getting hold of anyone became nearly impossible. Communication is one of the most important qualities in a solicitor, and unfortunately this firm failed at the very first hurdle.
