An absolute nightmare

An absolute nightmare! I paid nearly £11.5k for solar and battery system with Energy Home. To cut a long story short, their “surveyor” Charlie, miscalculated and not all ten panels would fit on my loft conversion’s flat roof. He agreed to give me two extra panels gratis, so three panels would be fitted to the front sloping roof of the house.
Long story short, the solar keeps tripping the house electrics, the solar iBoost (£750 extra) doesn’t work. The panels on the flat roof are too close together and so the six ones behind the first three are always partially in shade.
The panels on the flat roof are secured down with black plastic rubble sacks filled with stones - Charlie said this is a recognised way of securing panels to flat roofs. I said that the bags would suffer from UV degradation and then the panels could fly off in stormy conditions- Charlie said this wouldn’t happen, but it will, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work that out!
The inverter is showing a red light saying “alarm”, so now no energy at all is being generated!
The company are impossible to get hold of, they don’t answer emails and when you try calling them, your call goes to a call centre who takes your details, saying someone will come back to you (they don’t).
I was promised by Lee that someone called Ericas would come and resolve my issues, but no one turned up, that was over two weeks ago and I have chased Lee daily.
I have said that I will seek legal redress, and Lee hasn’t even acknowledge my correspondence or come back to me saying he will address all the problems.
I have not received any paperwork and so am unable to register my generation (if it actually worked) with my provider, Octopus.
I have spoken to the legal team associated with my house insurance and they have advised me of the correct course of action I now need to follow.
I see that the Energy Hone website is now under “maintenance” so it is no longer possible to access their information.
I have discovered having contacted MCS that they are not MCS registered/approved and so have been operating under false pretences.
The whole experience has been fraught and it is a such a shame that there are such thoroughly dishonest and unpleasant people hoodwinking and effectively stealing people’s hard earned money.
I wish I could turn the clock back and had not taken Energy Home at face value and dine some due diligence on this awful company - they also do not appear to registered at Company House!?
Avoid, avoid, avoid!!!!’nnn

Un trustworthy company that flat out lies

It took this company 5 attempts to get my solar package fitted, on the first visit I had to get on the roof to help the single installer fit the first part of my setup to which I never even got a thanks or an apology for.

The owner is rude, threatening and does not keep to his word. The communication once you pay is the worst I have ever experienced from any company ever in my life.

The solaredge setup is not complete so I can't actually view the system so in the future I cany identify any failing panels which is the very reason for going solar edge, I've received no warranty paperwork, or electrical sign off for the fitting.

I've emailed them countless times to get paperwork and certificate so I can get my seg payments as detailed by their salesman Stuart but none have appeared.

I checked with mcs who confirmed to me that as a company they aren't even registered with them despite what they have said.

They even tried to add an extra £500 to my bill just because I reminded them that the first fitter advised the scaffolding was inadequate and required extending to fit the solar safely.

All I can say to anyone is go elswhere, ignore the BS the salesman tell you and go elsewhere. If you use this company you will end up dissapointed like the many other customers are and unable to get the seg payments one of the main benefits of solar.

STEER CLEAR AT ALL COSTS

This company has totally failed to…

This company has totally failed to deliver. Installation last December. Not completed no certificate. Lee promise to put right after asking me to take down my last review. I did so in good faith as we are relying on them to finish after spending 6K. Still waiting. No communication and phone calls blocked.

Dishonest and incompetent

Apart from lots of missed dates and messy work, I have been left with an unsafe installation not in keeping with what I agreed with the company, with no certification - not even mandatory Part P, which it would fail. Energy Home claims the installation is complete, even though my batteries have been left on the floor rather than mounted properly, and inverter and batteries have not been earthed (which the installation instructions say is "mandatory").
No isolator switches have been fitted (though I've been invoiced for them).

I chose Energy Home partly because they stated they used MCS contractors, but I note this claim was recently removed from their website, presumably when someone pointed out they were trading fraudulently.
Energy Home has refused to put things right and fulfil their part of the contract and I am now having to sort out the installation with another contractor.

DO NOT use Energy Home Ltd for Solar…

DO NOT use Energy Home Ltd for Solar Panel or any other Installation! If the MD, Lee Furneaux, claims MCS compliance, do not believe him. They are NOT! I installed a substantial solar panel system in June and for the past 6 weeks I have unsuccessfully tried to get him to return my calls or respond to emails to discuss areas of possible noncompliance in their installation. I will post updates on future developments. AVOID! AVOID!

Not a good standard of work

Independent inspection of work done by them found loose MC4 connectors with one broken, MC4 connectors lying in gullies where water can seep in, one solar panel off its mounting, interior rated exterior data cable, loose cabling around inverter and battery system, inefficient wiring resulting in reduced output.
No response from company despite contact.

Avoid at all costs

Energy Home UK and EHBL uk are one and the same company. I signed up for a solar system with Energy Home at the beginning of May. I was quite surprised that they gave me an installation date of the following week. They couldn’t do the full job as it turned out, they couldn’t find a scaffolder apparently. But they installed the inverter(s) and electrics. 10 weeks later I was still waiting for the scaffolder. The communication in this time was non-existent, I was always the one pushing for information. They didn’t reply to emails at all. In that time I decided to do a little more research in to the company and found they weren’t on the MCS register, I also looked in to regulations around DNO certification and found that what they had actually installed at my property (a 4KW inverter for the panels and a 5Kw inverter for the battery charger), needed G99 pre-approval with the network operator (DNO). It was also not as specified in my contract, which was for a 3.6KW Hybrid inverter. This concerned me somewhat, so I contacted EH and asked for written proof of their accreditations and assurance that the correct approvals had been sought. ‘Charlie’ assured me he would send all the details I’d requested the next day, including his personal contact details. No email or details arrived. At that point I’d lost all trust in them and requested a full refund of my deposit. I got no replies to my emails, until I threatened them with a section 75 chargeback on my credit card. James Cooling (director) said I’d get my refund on removal and collection of the installed gear. The day before the arranged date, Lee Furneaux (other director) said I’d receive a refund of less that my full deposit (by £350), which I declined to accept. Lee phoned me up early that morning and was aggressive and rude when I continued to insist on a full refund under the Consumer Protection Act. A refund I was entitled to by law. Ultimately they conceded after they’d collected the gear and gave me my full deposit back, but It was a horrific, stressful experience and I literally had to fight all the way for my money. I’ll end this review with a quote from my final email from Lee who threatened me with court action, which will tell you everything you need to know about them

“G99 form is just advisory of the installation with max limit on system”
Look up the difference between G99 and G98 up in the regulations.

Energy Home is now in the process of being shut down. Lee has started a new company EHBL UK. Be warned they are the same.

Energy Home UK using illegal advertising

Energy Home UK sent me an E-mail advert which appeared to be in breach of the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 section 22. It is illegal to send electronic adverts to people who are not your customers and have not opted in to receive adverts

I sent them a SAR (Subject Access Request) asking what personal details they held on me, and where they got those details from. No response after 40 days, which again breaks the law.

Formal complaints have been submitted to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Update: The ICO have confirmed that Energy Home UK are in breach of the regulations by not responding to the SAR. That's now at least two laws they appear to have broken.

Do you really want to do business with a home improvement company that ignores regulations?

Run for the hills!

Without Prejudice

Avoid at all costs!
We decided to get solar. Everything sounded great, until installation (which was completed early May 2022). I could write war and peace on this, but will try and keep it short and cover some of the many issues.

Our electrician has said he wouldn’t sign off on the system due to numerous problems on the electrical side. We have paid him to correct some of these issues. Energy Home have never given us a Part P certificate for the electrical works. I don’t know if the person who did the electrical works was a ‘competent electrician’ (Part P registered) or not.

We have been chasing for our MCS certificate which MCS have advised must be issued within 10 days of commissioning. We have been promised we will get one numerous times in writing. It is now nearly 3 months since the installation.

We were promised someone would come to resolve issues with the bird netting on 22nd June. Nobody turned up, and nobody had the decency to tell us they weren’t even coming. We were told by one of the MD’s that he would come on the 15th/16th July to resolve bird netting issue and to deliver the MCS certificate. Again, this never happened, and again they didn’t even have the courtesy to tell us they weren’t bothering yet again.

On 30th July I rang MCS to check if this company is even MCS registered. Energy Home are NOT, despite the misleading website mentioning they only work with MCS competent people, and despite the constant promises that we will get this. MCS advised me they have had numerous calls from people asking the same question regarding Energy Home, so it would seem this is not a one-off. I suspect Energy Home have got away with it in a lot of cases as many people don’t even know what it is or what it’s used for.

Energy Home have never completed the G98 paperwork to notify our DNO about the system. This is absolutely necessary, and a legal requirement. It doesn’t require membership of any governing body, so there is no reason for this to not have been done. Again, I suspect Energy Home have been getting away with this as the majority of people don’t know the importance of this.

All in all I’d say don’t walk away, run. As fast as you can, and don’t look back. Energy Home is the nightmare I wouldn’t wish on anyone.
