Always informative and fair. They explain why brands are marked as they are so you can decide it that is important to you. Shopping guides are usually where we start when buying something new. News and features bring to our attention things that we would probably not come across elsewhere.

We have been subscribers to Ethical Consumer for many years. When we do have to buy something I try to look up past issues or search EC's website for guidance. I think their product assessments are open and transparent so they provide a very reliable source for sound ethical decision making. The news items keep us up to date with boycotts and changes in the corporate world. These also informs our ethical buying. We have long invested ethically but if we need to change our portfolio EC is a fantastic resource for sound advice and ideas. Investing in Solar schools for example, has been both pleasing in being able to help but also financially rewarding. We are very happy to promote their work to friends and colleagues.

Their reviews tend to be very comprehensive with lots of factual information.

I've used Ethical Consumer for years as a go-to guide. I find their ratings of companies helpful and insightful, and it's interesting - if scary - finding out who owns who.
I enjoy reading the magazine, but the website is also good as it allows sliding scales so you can choose your ethical 'preference' for a product, depending which aspect matters most to you.
Well worth the subscription.

I have found ethicalconsumer.org to be a really helpful, thorough and measured source. From learning how companies operate, how to choose where to spend money according to my own morals by changing settings on what a rating is based on, finding out more about how things are made and more. They look into production of things as well as which companies made them, which is also really helpful and usuallyenlightening. When I am going to buy anything I haven't before, I always check the website. I also enjoy the magazine that comes out every month, full og great articles, information and updates.

The ethical and environmental impact of what I buy is really important to me. The shopping guides are excellent, giving an overall rating for companies.. but even better, that is broken down by category so you can check the aspects most important to you. The tables are easy to read and the different issues are discussed and explained in the text of the report. I can make an informed choice which is just brilliant!

Ethical consumer is a real blessing for anybody that desires to make well informed and ethical purchases. It can be a real minefield trawling through the ethics of various companies in order to make good choices but ethical consumer does this for you and will find out the things you didn't even know you needed to find out! Its easy to use scoring tables combined with well researched and considerate reporting means you can make decisions knowing that you have the best information at your disposal. I have subscribed for several years and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone.

There are lots of sites which allow you to compare the prices of products, but there are very few ways of getting an objective assessment of the real cost of a product in terms of its impact on society and the environment. Ethical consumer gives me all the information I need to make an informed choice about who gets the money I spend.

Over 20 years ago, I started using Ethical Consumer's analyses to help my purchasing decisions. At the time, I found it easy to locate product and service reviews which described how effective, efficient and useful these items were, but they almost never included any mention of the ethics of the companies involved. Were they (and their products) environmentally friendly, did they treat their workers well, were they tax avoiders, did they support tyrannical regimes, etc.? Ethical Consumer's magazine answers all these questions and more. And if you want a more detailed analysis, subscribers can find it on their website.
