We had a European local helping us navigate the booking and navigation. The navigation was fairly striaght forward and we had it down by the end of the trip but the booking was complex and would have been harder to understand without a local. For example, we were not aware that we needed to book a reservation for international travel several months in advance to ensure we got the trains we needed. Overall though, very clean and enjoyable experience.

Super friendly and helpful customer service! They always responded within less than an hour, and although my original request couldn't be fulfilled, they made an effort to offer me another solution. Uncomplicated and, once again, very friendly. I didn't expect that. Thank you!
The only downside: the Eurail app no longer runs on older smartphones. Because of this, I had to postpone a trip at very short notice last summer and organise a new device. It's a pity, as I can't imagine I'm the only customer who doesn't have the latest smartphone.

Most of the trains were reliable and on time. However several were cancelled without notice which interfered with my plans significantly. The app was confusing at first but proved very helpful once I learned how to use it.

It was very easy to know where to catch the train. I think it’s great.

My friend and I travelled in Europe for 7 weeks during the 2025/26 Christmas/New Year period.
We had both used Eurail passes during the 1980s as backpackers and thought we'd again use a pass.
We bought a two month, 15 day pass each.
We planned most of our stops along the way with about a week at the end when we intended to 'wing it'.
Europe is a different place to what it was in the 80s. You need to book and plan a lot more, especially during peak times.
For us, there were a few issues with the Pass that we did not expect.
Even though you don't need to reserve seats on all trips, if you don't reserve your seat, you could well end up 'seat surfing' on a long journey, which we did from Stuttgart to Prague. We were actually told at the reservation office that we were not able to reserve seats for this journey, which was not the case.
Seat reservations cost extra and I think we paid all up about AU$200-300 on top of our pass for these. This was expected, but after the Stuttgart-Prague experience, we ended up paying extra for seat reservations for all of our journeys.
Also, not all routes are available to Eurail Pass holders. This was a surprise. We wanted to go from Budapest to Munich, but at the time of booking, the only train available was a night train. More may have become available at a later date, but as it was two days before Christmas, we wanted to ensure we got there but really did not want to travel at night. We ended up buying a normal train ticket and paying the extra money.
Was it easy to use? Well, yes I guess so. You certainly need internet connection on the train, that's for sure. But booking train tickets generally is very easy now, whether it be online or at a reservation office.
All-in-all, I don't think the Pass was beneficial to us.
I guess if you really want to be flexible with your journey, then it may be worthwhile. But in this day and age, most people book in advance and take advantage of the cheaper train fares.

My wife and I used Eurail 30 years ago when we backpacked around Europe. We were very happy then, so didn't hesitate to buy again recently. However, we really were not happy with it this time and would not purchase again. We spent 2 months wandering in Italy and Spain. First of all, the trains themselves in both of those countries are nowhere near as good as Germany, Switzerland, Austria.... But as far as the Eurail pass, it was a royal pain to have to make a seat reservation for almost every trip we wanted to take! Not only did we have to pay significantly more for each seat reservation, we almost always had to go IN to the train station to make the reservation. You're supposed to be able to do it in the Eurail app, but MANY times the listings were wrong, not showing up, and it was also more expensive than in person. Overall, we probably got our money's worth back in rides, but we will just buy individual tickets in the future. (As a side note, we had also purchased/used the Swiss Rail Pass and we LOVED it)

It was almost useless.
The vast majority of trains weren’t available, there were no seats and the “reservation fee” was equivalent of a regular ticket.
A complete fraud.

Delays on every leg of our Eurostar travel. Very expensive to have to reserve tickets. No advantage in being 1st class at all. Very disappointed in Eurostar.

Since I discovered Interrail last year, I don’t believe there is a better way to travel. I have chosen it and I will choose it again and again.

Great experience, always! The strike heads up help me more than once, it's very easy to use and a big helper for planing.

The only downside of Eurail/Interrail is that some trains (notably Eurostar) need to be booked a long time in advance and are a bit pricey, which is a hurdle given that most people (including myself) choose Eurail/Interrail for its flexibility.

The UX of this app is really bad. It's makes something simple very complicated.

Works really well for longer train trips and cost effective if you plan a mid-journey stopover. We took advantage of a special to grab two extra days, and we ended up using them all. You just activate a travel day on the app, and can use the local train company app / site to book a seat. 1st class is worth the extra cost in my opinion.

Eurail was one of the best decisions we made for our Europe trip. Our family of four used the Eurail app continuously for 30 days across 9 countries, covering both intercity and suburban rail. Booking and validating tickets on the app was simple and intuitive, and we even booked Eurostar at a discounted price with Eurail. We didn’t face a single issue throughout the entire journey. It made multi-country travel stress-free and flexible. Highly recommended for families and long trips across Europe.

Honestly am very disapointed and mad with Eurail, am going back to Europe this comming may and am not sure if I would buy it again, any plan !! Twice I had the same experience. At first I tough it was a casual mistake but then it happened again December 2025. Everytime I want to used it and going for reservation for the seats, in the counters they maked me payed the complete ticket avoiding the Eurail pass. Justifying that for Eurails passes there were no spaces in the train but if I buy it with them there was availability... So I ended up paying 100 Euros for example strasbourg Paris and not using my pass and instead of paying reservation I ended up paying the whole ticket. That happened twice, Dec 2024 Brusesls - Paris 300 Euros and 2025.
