In Kefalonia, we had to leave a €800 deposit which we got back at the end. We thought we had insurance for two people, got there and they said there’s only one person on the insurance so still unsure... See more

Frustrating experience- not worth the trouble
We had a very disappointing experience with this rental company. They hit us with a €500 charge for a couple of small scratches we didn’t cause. Unfortunately, our photos didn’t show that part of the car, so we couldn’t dispute it. A local mechanic in Athens told us the damage would only cost about €150 to repair.
They’re located far from the airport, and if you have an early flight, you’re out of luck—they’re closed and will charge you for an extra day. Returning the car took up most of our last day, which was frustrating.
In the end, the slight savings just aren’t worth it. You’re better off renting from a well-known company at the Athens airport. You’ll save time, stress, and possibly money.
Horrible service, liars and theft
Horrible service, we waited 1 hour and a half for them to pick us up, and the first time they came it sped past us after waving back to us, then they came for us 30minutes later, when we got to the cars they accused us of not telling them when to come for us when we sent them days before when our flight is arriving and which flight it is, and the guy who came for us told us he only had 2 minutes to pick us up and thats why he left, we accidentally left a bag in the back with a lot of money, a laptop and travel documents which we cannot leave without, and then we checked the car (we checked it after getting the rental because we forgot about the bag bc we were stressed and tired) and the bag was not there
Horrible experience
we had to wait 1 hour for them to pick us up from the airport, after he came for us he waved and then went away, we waited 20 minutes and when we asked why didn't he stop he said he can only stay in the airport parking lot for 2 minutes, which is not true, after that we left a bag in the car and we noticed it after half an hour, but the entire time we were at the place and when we asked to search their car they said that it's not there and everything was in that bag, they also can't properly speak English and really rude
Horrific service
Horrific service. First off waiting for the shuttle at the airport took more than 2 hours. Extremely disappointed after a long flight. Once at the car rental place they accused us of not understanding what time pick up was but we were multiple clients in the same position.
Worst of all there was a purse left by accident in the arm rest and they are refusing to give it back. Thieves and liars all around. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY
they are by far the worst car rental service in Greece.
We rented a car from Exer at the…
We rented a car from Exer at the Heraklion airport in Crete. While we were waiting some French clients walked out of the office very angry and they said they had been totally cheated on the return of the car. We were too. They are scammers. A very pleasant woman sits at a desk and encourages everyone to take insurance (700$ rather than 1400$) and goes into an elaborate discussion about why it is better for us. We did what we were advised and when we returned the car it was in perfect condition except for a tiny nick on the metal part of the wheel. The manager invented on teh spot that we had to pay 555 euros for its repair and this was outside insurance. It was a clear scam. At the same time a gentleman was sitting after having returned a car and Exer would not give him a receipt for the return claiming that their computer was not printing nor would they write him anything on paper. The man missed his flight rather than trust them to send him the receipt.
I have never ever had such a terrible, cheating car rental experience.
BEWARE OF EXERCARS
BEWARE OF EXERCARS, they are scamming money by force selling you services you don't want!!!
I booked a car with ExerCars in Thessaloniki Airport in advance and prepaid the whole rent with my credit card.
When I arrived to the rental company (after waiting for them over 40 mins outside the airport) around 10 pm, I was told by the manager that my card cannot be accepted. He said it was issued by a neobank, whatever that means. It was of course accepted by many other rental companies before without question.
I was offered to cancel the booking loosing the full prepaid amount or paying 800 Euro extra for full insurance. Manager did not explain how he calculated this amount but finally reduced it to 525 Euro saying that it is his best offer, knowing that at 10.30 pm I cannot find another car in the area and my need to drive over 100km. I was forced to agree.
When I read their T&C the next day, the actual price for full insurance for economy cars had to be 17days*25 Euro = 425 Euro.
When I returned the car, I was told that I also purchased some "premium road assistance" which I did not need at all. They refused to return the 100 Euro difference.
Summary. Do not rent from ExerCars!! They will either force you to buy insurance, road assistance, whatever else, or you lose your prepaid amount!! Find another company.
Never rent from this company
Do not rent from this company. We had drivers licence and international drivers licence and they refused to rent us a car because there was no record on our Australian drivers licence that we had held a licence for more than 12 months. I am over 60 years of age and have a bus and truck licence yet there was no way I could convince them that I had held my licence for more than 12 months. What a joke. Have travel to Greece multiple times and never been asked for documentation to prove that our have held your licence for more than 12 months. Rented a car in Athens no problem rented a car in Corfu no problem. You can obtain documentation from Vic Roads cost you about $11 and they can email it to you but completely unnecessary. Never been asked for it before and it is not as if I am 20 years old. Do not rent from this company.
Scam alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Scam alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This agency scams its customers by charging them for Half Collision insurance even when it's not necessary. I made a reservation on Booking with full insurance protection. However, on the day I picked up the car in Heraklion, they told me that Booking’s insurance was not accepted and that I had to purchase the only insurance they offer — which is not full protection. Otherwise, they would cancel my reservation and I would lose my money.
Several other customers were in the same situation that day.
We hired a car from Aktion airport
We hired a car through StressFreeCarRental.com with Exer cars.com at Aktion airport, Preveza, Greece. Everyone was very courteous on pick up and we were encourage to thoroughly inspect the car and take lots of photos. When we returned the car a brief inspection was carried out and we were given the all clear that no deductions would be made as the car was returned to them in the same condition as it was on collection. A very pleasant experience that I would highly recommend. Thank you.
Blocked money problems
İ just rented a car in Karpathos in they blocked 800 € on my Mastercard 5 days now money still blocked and when i called them they told me it can take 30 days till your money returns how ridiculous is that so be careful
I was very satisfied with my car rental…
I was very satisfied with my car rental from Exer Car at Araxos Airport in the Peloponnese. Vasiliki was very friendly, and the car was in great condition and almost new. Unfortunately, there was no option to use Android Auto, so it's a good idea to bring a phone holder. A €15 fee was charged for the car wash, as it's quite difficult to find car wash facilities in the Peloponnese. Other than that, everything was perfect. I can definitely recommend this rental service.
Avoid at all costs
Took our money for 3 day car rental at Kefalonia Airport but refused to refund us when we couldn’t provide a credit card to pay the $900 euro deposit. We offered to provide a debit card in replacement but they wouldn’t accept it. We also had to wait over an hour to speak with someone once we arrived at the centre as other people in front of us where having the same problem. We left with no car and they have since refused to refund us for the 3 days of car rental we never got. Avoid at all costs.
Absolutely Avoid – Inflexible, Unprofessional, and Packed with Hidden Fees
I had a very disappointing and stressful experience with Exer at Mykonos Airport.
Although the rental voucher did state that a credit card was required for the deposit, I only noticed this when I landed—my mistake. I had a debit card and was ready to pay the €800 deposit, as I’ve done with other companies without issue.
What followed was even worse: I was offered shady alternatives—pay in cash, or use my debit card if I agreed to a non-refundable €100 “fee” (€20/day), which was never disclosed during booking. The process felt manipulative and untrustworthy.
Stranded at the airport, I found many reviews warning of the same—including withheld deposits and surprise charges. I had to pay over €40 for a taxi and book with another provider just to salvage my trip.
Exer also charges a €15 cleaning fee on return unless you want to clean it yourself - something I’ve never encountered in years of hiring cars.
I strongly advise avoiding Exer entirely. It’s not worth the stress, the hidden costs, or the risk.
Kefalonia AirPort
Kefalonia AirPort - Alex was extremely kin, he accommodated us even within the limits of our credit cards, provided us with a suitable car, and even drove us back to the airport after we returned it. The best!
Excellent
Good staff, efficient and friendly. The team seemed really happy to greet us and the owner made every effort to make us feel comfortable.
Do not use
Do not use! Booked in advance from the UK for a passenger van in Orlando. Paid in full in advance. Was taken by shuttle to pick up vehicle but they would not allow me to pick it up without paying an additional compulsory $420 (not deposit). I tried to show them the rental agreement which clearly said paid in full and all additional items were optional, but they insisted I had to pay extra as I wasn’t a Florida resident!! I couldn’t even get an immediate refund and am still awaiting this from the booking website (DiscoverCars) and I have no car for the week 😭😩
Worst car hire experience I've ever had…
Worst car hire experience I've ever had (Athens) Thought the days of hire car companies scamming people was over. Returned the car, advised them we were running late for the airport. We then get informed This tiny tiny tiny mark (still verifying if it was on the car previously, see photo attached) which they found almost immediately despite being near invisible, would cost us €75. We said surely this comes under wear and tear at best? The woman then informed us it was not damaged, but an admin fee? (Which made no sense). When questioning it, she said "if you don't pay, you must get your own taxi to airport, we will not take you" .wow. we had no time left to even negotiate due to our impending flight time and had no choice to pay it (we had our bags taken out of the shuttle vehicle!!!). The other staff were great. I would avoid this scam house like the plague it is.
Oh and the "intermediate SUV" We paid for , was a Citroen c3....
Read the fine print
Went to pick up my car, but wouldn't accept qmy bank cards due to them being from a virtual bank. Then tried to charge us €300 to change the primary driver on the booking to a member of the group with a credit card from a "brick and mortar".
Wow, really bad
Wow, this was a once in a lifetime experience. To sum it up:
- Car was prepaid in full, incl. insurances and taxes.
- On arrival in Miami, at some scrappy backyard carpark, Exer wanted to charge me a 1000 dollars extra for all kinds of stuff, excluding 400 dollars token rent for toll (!), but including additional insurance and the rental of the car, which was already paid for (and yes, I know exactly how it works with insurance).
- I called the intermediary EconomyBookings to intervene, and waited for 20 minutes while they had an argument on the phone with Exer management.
- That same Exer management refused to talk to me in person though, but hid behind the desk employee instead.
- The intermediary then advised me to NOT pay, because it was a scam. So I went back to the airport with my two small children, trying to find alternatives.
- The printed Exer 'bill' I wanted to take was ripped out of my hand, because they did not want me to take it. I managed to take a picture of it and used it as evidence to get my money back.
- Now here we are, 6 weeks later. Today I heard the intermediary (EconomyBookings) is going to compensate me in full.
However, I felt obliged to warn others for EXER. Some people may have a good experience, but that is only a cover up for these kind of ripp offs.
Btw, I managed to rent a car at Sixt the next day, and paid even less.
Exer refused to hand me the car I had…
Exer refused to hand me the car I had reserved and allready paid for because my name on my drivers license didn't match my name on the credit card I had used.
Explanation is that my drivers license is 25 years old and I have got maried and took my wifes lastname.
So Exer said that there would be a problem returning the deposit because of that.
I have traveled many places ind both Greece and Spain and have never experienced problems with the mismatch with my last name before. So that was completely ridicoulous.
Besides a desposit of 1000 euro is crazy.
I then had to cancel the reservation and had to pay for 3 days because of that. They offered me a new deal for around 700 euro which was more than double the originally price for the same car. Pretty rude I have to say. So nothing positive to say about my experience with that company. Complete scam.
