An unpleasant start of the holidays with EXER car rental company.
For our holiday in Greece, we had booked a car at EXER Thessaloniki and had paid an advance. When picking the car up, the manager refused the agreement on the basis of a series of unfair, easily refutable arguments about problems with the driving license and the voucher received from the rental broker. We left and rented a car at the rental company around the corner without any problem. Later we heard that EXER (and several other car rental companies) regularly overbook their cars, and then get rid of the unfortunate travelers to get out of the contract. That likely explains our experience. We lost our advance fee.
Car hire Preveza
I am typically cautious when hiring a car abroad with pressure upselling on insurance etc but I have to say EX3R Preveza were extremely polite and friendly. We got a larger vehicle than expected and we were encouraged to take any videos & pictures before driving off. Fuel policy was same to same rather than full to full but this wasn't an issue. We will happily hire again
Got scammed
Got a real lesson to take pictures of a car. They also take pictures of the car before they give it to your service, so we thought that thats enough. When returning a car, they found a microscopical scratch from the front that was no way made by us. It was so tiny and wasn't recognisable from their picture, there was a white line that looked liked it on the pic though but they said it is beam of light. The quality of their pics was so shitty that it doesn't made any sense. They said that repairing this costs 350EUR wich is total nonsense. Luckily we had full insurance from booking.com, but still had to pay 40EUR because this insurance company was in UK where we had be in call for 25mins. Surely they will not take the car to repairing, only scamming the insurance company.
Also the customer service was not customer friendly. When we got the car, they described the rules in a very defensive way as if they had 0 pleasure to gave us the car. Left from their stall twice with very bad energy, first when we got the car and second when we gave it back.
Next time when renting a car on a holiday I will not choose car by the price but by the raitings of rental company.

Esperienza negativa – attenzione a Exer Rent a Car (Larnaca, Cipro)
Ho noleggiato un’auto presso Exer Rent a Car a Larnaca (contratto n. 2801B, targa PAT 322) tra il 25 aprile e il 2 maggio 2025.
All'arrivo, il personale è stato molto cordiale e ha minimizzato i numerosi graffi e danni visibili sull’auto. Nessuna foto è stata scattata, né è stato effettuato un controllo accurato. Al momento della riconsegna, invece, l’atteggiamento è cambiato drasticamente: ci è stato addebitato un danno da €150 in modo mirato, senza alcuna prova concreta e con foto scattate solo dopo la nostra riconsegna.
Abbiamo richiesto più volte foto del veicolo alla consegna (25 aprile), ma non ci sono mai state fornite.
La cosiddetta “fattura” che giustifica il pagamento è priva di numero, con data scritta a mano, e non ha alcun valore fiscale.
Abbiamo firmato il modulo danni sotto pressione, a pochi minuti da un volo aereo.
Abbiamo avviato un chargeback con la nostra banca e segnalato la vicenda al Centro Europeo Consumatori.
Consiglio per chi legge:
Se scegliete comunque questa compagnia, fate foto e video dettagliati all’auto al momento del ritiro, incluse targa e ogni angolo.
Meglio ancora: scegliete un altro noleggiatore.
Terrible experience – avoid Exer Rent a Car (Larnaca, Cyprus)
I rented a car from Exer Rent a Car at Larnaca Airport (contract no. 2801B, plate PAT 322) from April 25 to May 2, 2025.
Upon pickup, the staff was friendly and downplayed the many visible scratches and dents on the vehicle. No proper inspection was done, and no photos were taken. However, upon return, their attitude changed drastically: I was charged €150 for a scratch, with photos taken only after the vehicle was returned.
Despite multiple written requests, they failed to provide any photos from the pickup date (April 25) to prove the damage wasn’t pre-existing.
The so-called “invoice” justifying the charge had no invoice number, and the date was written by hand – making it fiscally invalid.
The damage report was signed under pressure, just minutes before our flight.
I’ve initiated a chargeback with my bank and reported the case to the European Consumer Centre.
🔻 Advice to future customers:
If you still choose to rent from this company, take detailed photos and videos of the entire car at pickup, including close-ups and the license plate.
Or better yet: choose another rental company.

We have had a great experience with Exer Rent a car in the airport of Patras/Araxas in Greece.
No hassles, friendly staf and a all around good experience!

Absolutely disappointing experience. This company turned out to be a complete scam. Despite having a reservation, we weren’t even able to take the car with us. Their customer service was unhelpful and dismissive, offering no real solutions. We ended up wasting 4 hours of our day for nothing. Avoid this place if you value your time and money.

Eine absolute Katastrophe – nie wieder Exer!
Ich habe mir bei Exer ein Auto gemietet und wurde auf ganzer Linie enttäuscht. Zuerst musste ich mit anderen Touristen über eine Stunde warten, weil mein Fahrzeug „noch nicht fertig“ war – trotz fester Buchungszeit. Als ich es endlich bekam, war das Auto völlig verdreckt und im Innenraum war deutlich sichtbarer Schimmel, vor allem an den Gurten – absolut unhygienisch und inakzeptabel.
Ich habe das natürlich sofort reklamiert und musste dann erneut über eine Stunde warten, bis ein Ersatzfahrzeug gebracht wurde. Doch damit war das Drama nicht vorbei: Das zweite Auto hatte massive elektrische Probleme und ließ sich beim Parken vor meinem Hotel plötzlich nicht mehr starten.
Als ich den Kundenservice kontaktierte, wurde mir völlig unfreundlich gesagt, es sei mein Fehler und die Kaution von 900 € werde dafür einbehalten. Keine Einsicht, keine Hilfe, keinerlei Verständnis.
Fazit: Schlechter Service, gesundheitsschädliche Fahrzeuge und ein unseriöser Umgang mit Kunden. Ich kann nur dringend davon abraten, bei Exer ein Auto zu mieten.
In English: An absolute nightmare – never again with Exer!
I rented a car from Exer and was completely disappointed. First, I had to wait with other tourists for over an hour because my vehicle was "not ready" – despite having a confirmed booking time. When I finally received the car, it was filthy and visibly moldy on the inside, especially on the seat belts – absolutely unhygienic and unacceptable.
Naturally, I reported this immediately and had to wait yet another hour for a replacement vehicle. But the nightmare didn’t end there: the second car had major electrical issues and wouldn’t start again after I parked it in front of my hotel.
When I called customer service, they rudely told me it was my fault and that my €900 deposit would be used to cover the issue. No understanding, no help, zero accountability.
Bottom line: Terrible service, health-endangering vehicles, and a shady way of dealing with customers. I strongly advise against renting a car from Exer.

The reservation was easy and fast done online. The customer service could be contacted per Email and the answer came soon.
The car that we booked was not available but upgraded to a better one. The service at the airport was very good. No hidden costs. Very good experience from booking till return of the car.
OVER 150 DAYS STILL NO DEPOSIT BACK
stay well clear of this company they are a absolute joke over 150 days now and still haven't got my deposit back for a car that was retuned in perfect condition and signed off as that. iv had to use two different email address as they just stop replying back. shocking company stay well clear
Terrible Company
After giving us a 20 years old car that stopped working during our trip and scamming us making pay a more than 100 euros for speed fees, we still facing a big problem: 4 months and they didn’t release the deposit charged for the car rental. The company doesn’t answer any email. The support is nonexistent and even their website is out. Did you bankrupt and toke all clients deposits? I demand my refund urgently!! I do not recommend this company even for my enemy…
betraying clients who were involved in accident
it is clearly your business practice to betray your clients who were involved in an accident. Although, the other driver admitted his clear fault and it was confirmed by the police report, I did not get back my money. Furthermore, I did not even get an answer from Exer.
I am sure that Exer is improving their financial situation by betraying international clients/tourists.

Exer did well for me
Exer was fine. They didn't try to tack on more insurance . I had a contract and voucher through rentcars dot com , and Exer respected the contract. The contract said they would meet me at the arrivals gate , but they did not know what flight i was on.had to call them , luckily i have a Turkish cell phone , they picked me up in 10 minutes . All good , would use them again.

Exer break DCC rules and fails to provide lighting for inspection
Obtained my quote in EUR for Car Hire in Corfu. Evening flight from UK so arrived at Exer office near Corfu airport late. 2 issues: 1) Exer forced me to accept Dynamic Currency Conversion to GBP for car hire payment, stating that this was their "company policy". This ended up costing me more. They are not allowed to do this (DCC is the customer choice, not the merchant choice). My choice then because refuse the car hire or be continue. Naturally, the latter as it was 10pm and 1hr drive from our hotel, not really 'a choice'. I have a chargeback pending on this now and I will be reporting Exer for their business conduct as a card merchant. Issue 2) There was no lighting for me to be able to inspect the car for damage and there were several scuffs. Taking photos with mobile phone flash turns out to be rather inadequate if called upon later. Exer need to provide appropriate lighting for evening collection within their office hours. Would not recommend and will not use again.

We travelled to Rhodos this month and…
We travelled to Rhodos this month and had two experiences: one with hotel business, another with Exer - car rental business.
Hotel had a right to check us in from 1500 hours, but they were ready check us from 11.30. Hotels had issue with room quality and they fixed it. Hotel had a right to check us out up to 11AM, but they allowed us to to stay until late evening at NO COST.
Exer... The worst ever experience with car rental company... We paid for rent and insurance via ryanair.com and when arrived to take a car they demanded a credit card. Ok, that's their requirement, but from the moneywise point there was NO DIFFERENCE! They could reserve amount with debit card the same.
But they demanded credit card and charged 130 EUR for not having it. ROBBERS! On top, they charged that amount of 130 Eur TWICE-after 10 days I still see reserved amount on the account.
Unpleasant predators business. AVOID AT ALL COST!

Different from most car rental companies they don’t try to sell you extra insurances and/or charge you suspicious damages.
This is my experience from 3 different rentals in 2024.

SCAMMERS!! they forced us to take the insurance with them which was 160€ for a week (way more expensive than it should be in rhodes). additionally the car we booked was not avaiable for the whole trip. they dowgraded our car but we still had to pay the insurance for the higher category, no sense. Moreover, they tried to make us cancel the reservation with booking and make a new one with them so they would get double paid

Everything went fine
Everything went fine. The car had some damages already because of end of season. Documentation was from both sides by photos. The staff was very friendly. The money blocked on credit card was unblocked shortly after we brought back the car. Would choose Exer again. Agency from Thessaloniki Airport. Also pickup and bringing back was well arranged.
