Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 1,351 reviews, reviewers overwhelmingly had a great experience with this company. Customers consistently praise the service for being easy to use and understand, making the process of creating important documents straightforward and stress-free. Many highlight the website's user-friendly interface and clear, intuitive instructions that guide them step-by-step through complex procedures. The product itself is frequently described as comprehensive and well-prepared, providing peace of mind and a valuable alternative to more expensive legal options. However, some customers also noted minor issues, such as difficulties with navigation or a lack of prompts for skipped steps, particularly in sections like gift items. A few other people also felt that the site could offer more information on specific options, like pour-over wills, and expressed concerns about the finalization process and the enforceability of documents without legal review.

Easy to use with great guidance

I had an excellent experience using FreeWill.com. The platform made the entire estate planning process simple, clear, and stress-free. I appreciated how easy it was to create important documents like my will and power of attorney. The step-by-step guidance helped me feel confident that everything was handled correctly.

What stood out most was the user-friendly design and the thoughtful explanations throughout the process. FreeWill.com makes something that can feel overwhelming much more approachable and accessible. The service was efficient, professional, and incredibly convenient to use from home.

I would highly recommend FreeWill.com to anyone looking for a free way (with some reasonably priced extra services) to organize their estate planning and protect their loved ones.

Thank you!

After a family member passed i started…

After a family member passed i started thinking it might be smart to have at least some kind of will, so I looked into it. Right away I found myfreewill.com I needed a free option beside( the notary.) Its very easy, a child could do it as long as they could read. It step by step in detail questions and blank spaces make it super easy to make your final wishes clear and easy to follow out! Leaving your final wishes for your family will give you such peace of mind, that your not just leaving your loved ones not knowing how to best honor you and you whole vision for your body's final journey here on earth. Questions you never would have through to answer will be asked medical wished, burial wishes, even your final words to each person if you'd like, what ever you'd like. I feel so good knowing my loved ones have a link to my free will!

I feel so relieved

I feel so relieved that I was able to make my Will online and the fact that I am a senior citizen finding a website that made it possible to do it for free was such a Blessing and something you don't see now a days (the word Free :)
It wasn't hard or to complicated to do. Everything was clearly explained. I was so worried about not being able to find a lawyer to draw it up, that wasn't to expensive and then I saw the freewill.com website. I was able to stop worrying and I won't be getting a bill.
I am truly grateful and was very Happy to see there are still people who cares about helping others,it's so refreshing. Thank you for caring :)

User BEWARE! They don't safeguard your privacy!

My initial feeling about Freewill.com was like wow, this is fantastic, this site has just saved me several hundred dollars in writing a will! Wow! And then reality hit.

USERS BEWARE! This morning, I received a phone call from one of the charitable organizations I had written into my Will, thanking me for including me on estate planning, and letting me know that Freewill had contacted them to let them know I had put them in my Will.

WTF ??? The ethical breach of consumer confidentiality about this is HUGE. And of course, if you look in their terms of service, they have protected themselves against class action.

First of all, Freewill doesn't know if you *actually signed & finalized the Will you created on their site*. So the fact that they're telling potential future estate recipients that they're included in your estate planning is just ... an obscenely gross breach of privacy. The lack of ethics here is bonkers.

Then my lawyer reviewed the website and said that Wills created using the website may be flawed, and thus open to not being enforceable - so they said ALWAYS get a professional lawyer to write/review your Will.

DO NOT use this site if you're concerned about your privacy. Use an lawyer who deals in estate planning, and be secure in your estate planning & legality of your Will. It's incredibly important.

** NOTE ** In response to somebody else reviewing this problem with Freewill, the company cites "When someone includes a charitable bequest in their will using FreeWill, our tool explicitly asks whether they would like us to share their contact information with the nonprofit, or to keep their gift anonymous." Anybody reading that notation when working their way through setting up a Will will assume that Freewill means that *after* they have passed away, NOT right now.

Freewill needs to clarify this immediately on their website. I was absolutely gobsmacked to get a call from one of the organizations I had designated - especially, as I have written above, Freewill DOES NOT KNOW whether or not you FINALIZED the Will that you used their site to write. So they're just out there telling organizations, "Hey, guess what, somebody has *maybe* put you in their estate planning."

Absolutely terrible breach of ethics and client confidentiality.

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, and we are sorry to hear about the experience you've had.

Please know that FreeWill only shares user information with a charity when a user has consented to it during the will creation process. When someone includes a charitable bequest, our tool asks whether they'd like the organization to know who they are, or whether they'd prefer to remain anonymous. This is always opt-in and never done without a user's authorization. However, we apologize for any confusion and for what we understand was an unwelcome surprise to receive an acknowledgment from this organization.

We appreciate you sharing this with us. Your feedback is incredibly valuable, and we've passed it along to our product team. If there's anything else we can clarify or help with, please reach out to our dedicated support team directly at help@freewill.com, and they will be happy to assist you.

Thank you,

Been needing a Will for years...

I had been putting off Will for years due to the hesitation and unknowledge of doing. I was told about Freewill.com Honestly I was leery, for one, are they legit and 2nd.. nothing is free! I was proven wrong. It did take me awhile to finish but that was due to the thoroughness of questions and my decisions. I loved how I was directed and confusing legal verbiage, it was explained. In my opinion my Will is more in depth than one by my attorney. I feel more at ease with Freewill.. knowing my wishes are precise. Well done and I appreciate your company and the non profit donations that support these strongly needed documents. I am very happy this is done. I can rest now! Thank you

Easy to use

Easy to use, easy to update, easy to print. All done on my samsung tablet. Downloaded to tablet, Emailed to work, printed off. A long as it holds up in court, it is perfect. I read through some of the negative reviews here. I'll be honest, I laughed at a few. I had none of those issues. I started freewill a year ago, back now to update my will. Very simple process.

BEWARE: Freewill will contact your beneficiaries

I was shocked to learn that Freewill makes the beneficiaries of my will- the non profits- aware that they are in my will. I expected confidentiality when I did the will. This led to these groups contacting me, and now are calling me at home and requesting more donations. I contacted free will and asked them to delete my account. So read the fine print, maybe it is in there somewhere, but for me, I am angry and will go to a lawyer who respects confidentiality.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing this feedback, and we're sorry for the frustration and unwanted outreach you’ve experienced after using FreeWill.

FreeWill takes user privacy and confidentiality very seriously, and we do not share a will-maker’s information with a nonprofit unless the user has specifically opted in to have us notify that organization of their gift intention.
When someone includes a charitable bequest in their will using FreeWill, our tool explicitly asks whether they would like us to share their contact information with the nonprofit, or to keep their gift anonymous. Information is only passed along if the user selects that option.

If you haven't already contacted our support team, they would be happy to assist you with updating these preferences in your estate plan or deleting your FreeWill account. If you would like assistance with either of these, please reach out to them by emailing help@freewill.com.

Thank you,
Jenny Xia Spradling
