Geek Guys are usless corporate ownd

Bought in a hp window with all factory software and media to have hard drive replaced which was confirmed nothon tech services. The GEEKS could not do it because updates will be required and said they don't have a disk drive. Did not want ms update.
Duh -the computer has a disk drive and they had a hard dive in stock. Just don't deal with these clowns and find a more family run business to do repairs and save you money and more important time.

I just purchased a computer from Best…HP CPU

I just purchased a computer from Best Buy and needed my printer set up.

The first person we spoke with was doing everything but.

The first thing he did was rent a diagnostic on my brand new computer, which took about 45 minutes.

And shortly thereafter, he disconnected to remote session and the telephonic session simultaneously and left me hanging.

Approximately 30 minutes later, a female call back with the same accent and says she’s here to do a tuneup on my computer.

I explained to her I want to know what the other guy did as he had full access to my computer and I don’t know what was going on.

She told me she can’t tell me the all.she is here to do is a tuneup soI hung up the phone.

I called back and the person took all the details and set me up in the queue for a technician to come on approximately an hour later.

He checked my computer for malware, which took about 45 minutes and disconnected.

I don’t know what type of nonsense is going on here but buyer beware

Can't repair Apples but willing to charge for it.

Paid 129.99 for Geek Squad tech to come to our house and repair wife's iMac. He was unable to repair computer but said the store could pull the screen and repair it. Tech said he could not transport iMac back to store. I drove 1 1/2 hours round trip to the store only to be told they could not repair Apple iMacs.

Geek Squad needs to vastly improve it's service updates.

Took my HP laptop to Best Buy in Victoria for a warranty repair. Service at the store was very good. The laptop had to be sent to Vancouver to be repaired.
Apart from one email asking if the laptop could be wiped there was very little communication about the status of the repair. I sent three emails to the address asking for a status update. I called the 1-888 number on the email. The message says to call within business hours which I did six times with no answer.

My laptop was repaired but the experience is less than satisfactory.

Thieves and crooks

Is anyone in charge of these people? That person needs to be brought out of his parents basement, have the Cheetos washed off his face and fingers, and fired. These people are running around doing whatever they want. I have scheduled an appointment to have warranty work done twice. Geek squad has rescheduled those appointments 3 times with only 5 minutes to 15 minutes notice each time from the original appointment. No confirmation email the day before like “they are supposed to”. No explanation except that the tech didn’t feel like taking the appointment. Who is in charge of these invalids? So far I have paid for warranties that neither geek squad nor Best Buy has fulfilled their end of the contract for. That’s what you’re signing when you sign up for their fraudulent money trap of a warranty. It’s a contract. How many times do these people need to be sued before they stop ripping off the customer? They can’t answer questions about accountability. There is never a supervisor working. No one is in charge at either Best Buy or geek squad. My entire extended family will not do business with these thieves and conmen anymore. They have balked at providing their end of the warranty to our grandparents purchases. They’re in their 80’s. These people have no problem ripping regular people off but the way they treat veterans and the elderly is absolutely despicable. None of our warranties have been honored and nothing has changed in the last 5 years of having to deal with them. They also sell customers broken and damaged warranty parts when you can get them to show up and all the techs can say is ‘hey I just do what I’m told to keep my job.’ Despicable pathetic thieves. They will steal and lie to everyone and sell their own grandmothers for a nickel. Do not buy anything from these people or any company they are associated with as you are guaranteed to be stolen from and they don’t even try to hide it.

Conner and Dave don't let them in!

Conner and Dave came to install an LG wash tower. They left me with leaky valves that were not leaking prior. They said it was bc the water was turned off then back on and my valves are old. Well we just had a bathroom remodeled so the water was turned off and on a dozen plus times still no leak just did laundry a few days ago no leak! The also knocked a hose loose that drains my central air so my laundry room flooded. They had only been gone 10 mins I called Conner and was told to move the washtower and see if I could fix it! Thanks for leaving me to move a giant machine by myself! Seriously?!

Not so bad!

I went to the geek squad at the pleasant hill. ca. store and brought in my computer for a rebuild. The reason was that i was scammed and needed an anti virus and usb installed. I was very impressed with Alex in computers. He was thorough in his presentation and explained what I should get and why I should get it. He is a great sales person. I then took his advice and had previously made an appt. but had to leave my HP Laptop for 3 days for service. When I picked it up they never gave me a pickup receipt which I didn't like and expected them to tell me exactly what they found and what they did.My laptop was running very slow. I changed my pass word and logue in only to find I'd been locked out from my emails. Very frustrating. So I had to have a code sent to change passwords. I have no cell phone and didn't know what I was going to do. I was greeted by Christy who offered me her personnel cell phone so they could send me a code. She was so helpful I felt like hugging her. She went above and beyond to help me. Well getting back to the service I had done was a usb installed. I didn't know I was supposed to eject it before I shut down. So if you don't do this it can wipe out your file's and corrupt your computer. So I has Microsoft technical support help me to eject the usb. I like Best Buy and think I would get my Next TV there and have them set it up.I joined the membership for 179.99 and plan on going back if I need computer help again. This is Val from Concord,Ca.

STAY AWAY, Big Corporate against the little guy

We signed up for Geek squad in 2021 for our company. They came out multiple times and helped us with things like hardware setup, networking etc. In the last 12 months they have ignored our calls, offered no service and so we called to cancel our service. We were told by the manager on the phone that no refund would be issued. She also informed us that Best Buy lawyers changed the terms of service in June of 2023 to eliminate any site/home visits (the whole reason many of us signed up in the first place). After the change to policy they auto renew your membership and so unless you are an attorney or a huge corporation they have you over a barrel and your now paying for nothing. Deeply saddened by their corporate decision to fleece small consumers. I'm appalled that they refuse to refund with such a blatantly punitive policy. STAY AWAY!

Went in to get windows installed on my laptop at Deerfoot Meadows, Calgary. They tricked me into signing for the anual coverage plan noting I could cancel anytime..but couldnt cancel the coverage until an entire year was up costing me hundreds of dollars. But the worst part was that they actually STOLE my internal battery and replaced it with a dead battery that didn't even match my brand.

Geek Squad not worth the time

I purchased a Lenovo Yoga laptop from Best Buy in May 2022. Other than a dead pixel in my screen that has been there since the beginning (I think), I have not had any issues with it. It's a great computer. In May of 2024 my computer's battery was running low, so I plugged it in to charge. It would not charge. The battery kept draining. My laptop has a type C charger and has 2 ports, both can be used for charging. I tried plugging the cord into both ports, but neither worked. I thought it could be the charging cord itself, so I went and bought a new one. That also did not work, so I made an appointment with the geek squad. My appointment was for 6:40 and by the time I was seen, it was past 7. The tech took my laptop out of it's case, turned it over in his hands, put it on the counter, opened it and tried to turn it on. When it did not turn on, he looked at me and said, "yup, it's your motherboard." He then proceeded to tell me that I could send it out to be repaired and that would cost me $75 just to ship it, then another $900+ to replace the motherboard. I was dumbfounded. 1. the laptop was only 2 years old. 2. the tech did not do any tests or even look at the charging port. 3. my laptop was not showing any signs of a failing motherboard prior to the battery dying, i.e no Non-functional USB ports, no unexplained crashes, no system errors, no slow performance, and no difficulties connecting to the internet or other devices. None of the warning signs were there, none of these problems occurred. The tech had no way of knowing the motherboard was dead and never even looked at the charging ports.

I told the tech to never mind, that I would be getting a second opinion. I did my research and bought a replacement type c charging port and a replacement battery. I took it to a family member to have them look at it. One of the first things he did was to get a magnify glass and look at the charging ports. He then took a mini vacuum and cleaned out the charging port. We plugged my computer in, and it immediately started to charge and turned on. He saved me $900 and from being scammed. Best Buy was ready to charge me for services and parts I did not need. I don't know if the tech was not trained well in his job, or if he just didn't care, or if they are encouraged to send as many laptops away to 'be repaired' as they can, but for whatever the reason, he didn't do his job. If I had listened to him instead of my guts, I would have been screwed out of $900+.

When I tried to leave a review for the 'services' I got from the geek squad, Best Buy wouldn't let me. Every time I tried I would get an error message saying " we are no longer accepting reviews for this product."

Take away: do a quick internet search for local repair shops in your area before trusting the geek squad. Save your money.

D. McMillan at the Woodmore Town Center…

McMillan at the Woodmore Town Center location displays a concerning lack of professionalism and customer service skills. His demeanor is rude and off-putting, and he fails to represent the supervisor role effectively. It seems he is unable to separate personal issues from his work, impacting his ability to assist customers appropriately. I am unwilling to let his unprofessionalism drive me to another store location, but I feel it is important to address his inadequate service.

Geek Squad needs some training

In July I made a Geek Squad appointment because I had a Windows Update problem. My desktop was ready for pickup the next day and that problem was resolved. However, every month I create a Recovery Drive. I’ve never had any problems doing this. The error came back “Required files missing.” Those files were there before the Geek Squad took it for the update problem so what happened? I made another appointment and told the girl at the desk my problem. She went in the back for a while and returned with the tech. In short, he said he was unfamiliar with the process of creating a recovery drive. I’m thinking What?!? You’re the expert. For 6 weeks in my spare time I researched the problem and none of the suggestions worked. I did learn that all I needed was a file named winre.wim in Windows/System32/Recovery. I also found a folder named $WinREAgent$ containing a subfolder name Backup created on the day I brought my desktop in for the Update problem but the winre.wim file was not there. Still looking for answers online there was a Youtube video related to my problem saying that Recovery Files may be hidden and how to reveal these files. I followed the instructions and there was the winre.wim file in the Backup folder that the Geek Squad created. I moved that file into Windows/System32/Recovery and I could once again create a Recovery Drive. Now, I’m a person with average technical intelligence and I would expect the Geek Squad to be vastly superior. I'm supposed to know that I have to check for hidden files? They moved that file out to fix the Update problem and never moved it back. And then I’m told they are unfamiliar with the Create a Recovery Drive process? Someone needs training.

People at Best Buy are not knowledgeable.

I have never used Geek squad. I would use a real repair shop or do the work myself. I have been to Best Buy a number of times to check out and ask questions about audio gear and speakers, etc. The people did not have a clue what I was talking about. So I would never expect them to know much about computers. Geek Squad is a silly name.
