We booked gobycar through Jet2. When we arrived at the office on Saturday it was quite busy, and we were directed to take a ticket from the machine at the rear of the waiting area. We were called forward 5 mins later, and served by Martin. He was very thorough and detailed in his explanations of the rental agreement, and was extremely pleasant throughout. Helpfully, he also sent photos of the noted minor bodywork damage (some small marks and scratches) to my email address. When we left the admin office to collect our car from the bay, another gobycar agent was also on hand to record the missing parcel shelf that we noted when checking the car. We found the entire service to be very professional, friendly and courteous.

We’ve probably all been stung at some point by rental car companies drawing you in with a cheap price, only to load on charges at return. Nothing new. But this was a new low, and people need to be aware of it.
At return, the staff member said “we have a problem” while closing the boot - before even opening the glove box. She then walked around, opened the passenger door, and the glove box to “confirm” that an item was missing. At that point I honestly just laughed, because it felt completely premeditated.
We had the car for two days without luggage, made a single trip to the hotel and back, and never used the glove box at all.
I immediately checked the documentation they had issued. It included 18 photos of existing damage - all taken by them - and then one final photo showing a medical kit sitting in its box on what appeared to be a windowsill, not in the car.
For context: if there had been valid proof that the item was in the vehicle at pickup, I would have paid without hesitation. I accept I didn’t check the glove box at collection. But there was no valid proof.
When I pointed out that the photo did not even show the item inside the vehicle, I was met with aggressive and unprofessional behaviour rather than any proper explanation. After continued questioning, I was briefly shown a photo on a screen from a previous rental dated 10 days before mine! That was presented as their “evidence.”
Instead of addressing the issue, the staff member turned her back and walked away. The whole situation became extremely frustrating and upsetting, especially as the facts simply did not add up.
We were also uncomfortable with remarks being made about us to one another in Spanish while we were standing there.
I was then forced to pay the charge on the spot to avoid missing my flight. When I initially refused to sign, I was told the hold on my credit card would not be released. Under that pressure, I signed with the intention of disputing it afterwards.
To make matters worse, the charge was labelled simply as “damage” on the documentation, which has made challenging it more difficult through the RentalCars booking platform.
There were also other inconsistencies like the car not being truly “full” under the full-to-full fuel policy at pickup, and I returned it completely full.
This isn’t about the amount. It’s about the principle. Experiences like this leave a very sour impression, and it’s disappointing because I genuinely enjoy travelling in Spain.
Small charges like this are easy to slip through without challenge, which is exactly why people need to be aware.
They may have got me on this one, but others should not.

Nice helpful staff, reasonably quick shuttle service, close to airport. The staff did not try and find fault with the car when I returned it, which I have had experience of in the past with a different company. The only issue was the instructions to find the stop to wait for the shuttle from the airport were not clear enough. It therefore took a long time to work out where to wait. It would be very easy for the directions to add a sentence to be more specific about where to find the stop and what to look for.

Prepaid rental car booked for two weeks. At the airport waited over 30 minutes for the transfer bus. Our credit card was not accepted because of the deposit, and the employee only said we should come back later - without mentioning that the booking is only valid for 24 hours. When we came back, our reservation was already canceled (“no show”). Now we are standing there without a car and fighting for a refund.

My favorite car rental company in Ibiza. Very fast check in, I usually get my car within 5 min, reasonabal insurance price for 10€ a day and you don’t have to worry about anything. Mainly don’t have to be bothered by credit card deposit.
