I have discovered a lot of great books since joining goodreads. The app is 99% reliable.
I wanted to give a good review
I wanted to give a good review - but they have reviewers on their site who are offensive to other reviewers all the time, but get away with it because some 'like' their posts, and they actually review regularly. Very soon only those reviewers will be left because you can sense that others are fed up with being sworn at all the time if they disagree. If this is what Goodreads want, then OK - they can do without me.
Avoid
Avoid, purchased a book (£90) money taken the 13 days later they cancel the order for no reason and price increased by £30!!!!! Still waiting for my money!!!!
Easy to figure out and has a great user…
Easy to figure out and has a great user experience. I've used it as an author and as a reader. I'd give it one more star but sometimes the site is glitchy and needs an update or two.
Other than that, their customer service is SO prompt and kind!
Deleting bad reviews
I am livid at the fact they removed my negative review in a controversial book. I’ll write that same review again and again. You can’t just delete bad reviews because everyone hated something.

You are Purchasing Ads
I purchased Goodreads using my Apple Pay. However, all I could view was advertisements and could not get back to the book that I was reading after I purchased it.
It is for purchasing advertisements only.
Questionable support and training of staff on website know how.
I was asking for literal years about how to browse on their site the most effective way. Sending links, images… detailed explanations of what I was encountering and to get a solution. All I can say is after months and months of trying, talking to different staff and advisors, that none of them have a clue about their own website! They were all like oh yes we see how that would be useful to have, yet they had it all along! So all while my queries were valid, they never actually tried to find a solution or to go through the effort of clicking on the links or information provided and to find a work around for me, had they, it wouldn’t have took 18+ months of my own trial and error to figure it out myself. Which could’ve all been avoided. I mean, it is their website afterall.. and their lack of knowledge regarding it is disgusting. Pagination limit my ar*e, I just needed an account. You would’ve knew this if you went out your way to see try find where the extra pages were and upon doing so would’ve been able to advise me, yet you couldn’t find the time! But found enough to send generic mindless emails back and forth which ultimately got me no where. Waste of time.
Other than that, Goodreads is a solid 4/5. But their customer service brings it to a 2 unfortunately. Most your staff all need retraining.
bot reviews
I have read reviews that are false; they bear little resemblance to the book I've been reading. I believe it's the result of some clever bot scheme. Here's the story of one of the reviewers who praised a pathetic, clumsily-written book:
She posted 19 reviews today, Oct. 15th; She has posted 82 reviews in the past 5 days, which would average out to 5,986 books a year. She posted 209 reviews the day she joined Goodreads, and then took a year and 7 months off to catch up, then posted 108 books on one day, most of them not rated (?).
What a story awaits the author who wants to pursue this reviewer!
Goodreads is a FAILED Platform violating Trade Law
Goodreads has failed to retract multiple Empty #ReviewBOMBS and False information that is masqueraded by "Librarian Edits" of corruption and illegal violation of Trade Laws on my account!

Useless
I can't claim any of my books because someone with the same name as me already has a GoodReads account, so all books published under that name are automatically added to her profile. Since GoodReads are apparently so stupid they have no process at all for two writers having the same name.

Complete pain in the backside.
Beware of fake ratings affecting your books.
In my experience, GoodReads is not user-friendly, and the website has crashed multiple times.
By now, GoodReads should have updated the site where only your newest book cover will be shown, not multiple book covers shelved for the same book.
GoodReads has a lot of trolls who purposely give fake ratings on your books. My books had high ratings; then all of a sudden, I found a bunch of one-star ratings on my books. I did report this to GoodReads, but they won't do anything about it. If you’re an indie author, please be aware of this.
I just noticed that Good reads has all…
I just noticed that Good reads has all of your reviews and comments on every book on google, this is a major breech of my privacy, as I do not want the whole world to see my private reading and comments. This is not good enough and I have emailed them to take them down.
Potentially a good site but with many mistakes that they refuse to correct
I find Goodreads to be basically a good site. One can have friends that one can easily communicate with. One can update some of one's books.
But there are so many faults.
They do not like one to read more than a very few books at once. Previously one could update all the books one was reading. But somebody new must have been put in charge and that person will not permit updates of more than a few books. This person apparently himself//herself only reads at most a very few books at once and wishes to enforce his or her view on everybody else.
Also, some people "like" one's reviews when one hasn't written them yet! The truth is that they have liked one's updates. But many people like one's updates and it says that they like one's updates. Very strange. I've written to Goodreads several times and asked them to fix this mistake. But they won't. Or else they can't. Under any circumstances, it's extremely frustrating. Because when it says that people have liked one's review before one has written it, then when one has written and posted a review one doesn't know if they actually have read it or not. It says one has, but that was before it was written. So have they read it, or not? Goodreads apparently don't understand that this is a problem or else they don't care, don't want to get things right.
Goodreads could be a great site, if they were only willing to correct their mistakes.
Overall great site
Overall great site, but I need to complete a captcha to select at what year I've read a book! Seriously?! I am already logged in. Why would I ever need a captcha at a simple selection???
Very poor mobile site…
I have a mobile account via the Good Reads App and need to change my email address. However, I can't find a way to do this, which is incredibly frustrating.
Also, I've compared the mobile account on the App to the the account on my PC and the menus on my mobile account are very limited.
I started writing a review on my mobile which was apparently saved. However when I came to finish it later, l couldn't find a menu heading for saved draft reviews. Really annoying!
Account Deleted by Error (not by me)
Hello fellow bookworms,
I recently had a troubling experience with Goodreads. When I try to log in, I receive an error message that "There was a problem. We cannot find an account with that email address." I was able to log in yesterday without any problems, so I am not sure why this is happening, so I submitted a contact form
I received an email from Goodreads support informing me that my account had been deleted. However, I did not request this deletion and was shocked to find out that all of my valuable data and connections on the platform were gone.
I reached out to Goodreads support for help, but they informed me that once data has been deleted, it cannot be restored. This is very concerning to me, as I had invested a lot of time and effort into building my account and connecting with fellow book lovers.
I am writing this post to caution other Goodreads users to be aware of this issue and to ensure that their accounts are secure. It is also a plea to Goodreads to take a more proactive approach to prevent accidental deletion of user accounts and to offer more support to users who have been affected by this issue.
Has anyone else experienced a similar issue with Goodreads?

Horrible
Horrible! The app has serious security issues and I deleted my profile. I keep getting spam emails from Goodreads and I unsubscribe every time, but to no avail. They keep spamming me. Serious warning if you don’t like being bombarded with unwanted email: have nothing to do with this app!
Interesting idea, but let down by selling your info.
Thought this was a good site, allowing you to keep track of the books you have read, set reading goals for yourself, even see what friends are reading.
Unfortunately, quickly found the site shares your information on a massive scale. A few days after signing up, I saw a huge influx of spam and scam messages being sent to me e-mail address.
Been reporting and blocking these messages for a 2 weeks now, and there seems to be no end to it.
Definatel has to be this site, as there are no other new sites I've joined in the past few months.
