Much better options exist.

Grammarly used to be a powerful tool, but it has steadily declined to the point that better options exist. For one, the interface is far too intrusive; having a small circle hover over and block your work is never acceptable. For two, it does not work on more and more websites...why pay for a tool that doesn't work when editing your blog? Finally, customer support is nonexistent. You can only submit an email, and response time is weeks if you get one at all.

Waste of money.

Waste of money and patience

I used Grammarly for years and cancelled. I will not go back. It went from helpful to noisy and unreliable.

On Android the floating G gets in the way. It pops up, blocks buttons, and covers text fields. On Windows the new side panels and widgets add clutter and slow me down. I open a document to write, not to fight a sidebar.

Corrections are not reliable. I kept seeing bad fixes. It even shoved commas inside words. The worst was ok turning into o,k. That is not clever. It is broken.

The price is a joke for what you get. I paid each month to be annoyed and to fix Grammarly’s mistakes. The free tier is not worth it either. I would not use this even for free.

There are better options. Microsoft Editor, LanguageTool, or ChatGPT do the basics without getting in the way.

Avoid Grammarly.

Poor Renewal Transparency

I like this product; it delivers good results. However, I’m disappointed that they don’t send reminder emails before automatically renewing annual subscriptions. It feels a bit unfair, especially given the high cost. I expected clearer communication and better renewal practices.

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE / CAN'T DELETE APP!

Sorry to report a TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE with Grammarly when I tried to DELETE the app from my laptop! My Macbook Pro already has an excellent Grammar App; as a Web Designer, I was curious about whether Grammarly might help. BUT THE CONTINUOUS POP-UPS ARE VERY DISTRACTING AND UNNECESSARY. AFTER HOURS OF VAIN ATTEMPTS, I CANNOT DELETE THE APP; EVEN CONTACTING GRAMMARLY HAS NOT LED TO A SOLUTION! I'm hoping that they'll see this Review and something will be done about this obvious BUG!
NOTE: I'm VERY au fait with Desktop skills as it's my area of expertise. ***PLEASE don't try Grammarly out, unless you plan to PURCHASE it! You can find MANY other cases like mine online***.

It is going down hill with the over-reliance on AI. The website for support in incoherent, in so many ways it is untrue. I am writing as a an expert in user experience and user design.

I used to love it

I used to love it. But what they won't tell you is they're discontinuing Grammarly for Office. The new format is awful. It's much more difficult and labour-intensive to use. It takes you three times as long, and sometimes you have to restart a document several times because the Grammarly assistant won't load. Considering going in another direction.

Extremely and almost non-existent…

Extremely and almost non-existent customer support. They expect me to wait 48 hours for a response! Chat widget is a scam as there is literally nobody there on chat and you can deal with the bot that turns your enquiry into ticket that has 48 hours response time. . The app has not been functioning for several days on the annual plan, and there has been no response from support—avoid and find alternatives quickly. This is very unstable, it keeps breaking up and support is non-existent. I have requested help as a 5-year customer and they don’t care.

WARNING SCAMMERS!

WARNING! This Company continues to take money from you AFTER you cancel subscription! Today I had to have a lengthy call with Barclays Fraud department after Grammarly took another annual subscription. I cancelled in June 24 by email. They then took a years subscription in October 24. I got absolutely nowhere in trying to contact them. I requested my bank to block any further payments to them, which they did. Grammarly attempted a payment last week which was declined. However, yesterday they attempted again and this time were successful! The bank have refunded me and the Fraud dept are doing further work to recall and understand exactly how they have managed this so that another payment does not go out next October. Untrustworthy Company, Scammers!

★☆☆☆☆ Absolutely Useless

★☆☆☆☆ Absolutely Useless — Don’t Bother

Grammarly’s free version is a complete joke. I downloaded it hoping it would help with school assignments, but it’s barely more useful than the spellcheck already built into Word or Google Docs. It misses basic grammar issues, suggests nonsense changes, and constantly shoves “upgrade to pro” in your face like that’s supposed to justify how broken the free version is. This isn't a writing tool — it’s a glorified ad for their paid plan. Total scammy bait-and-switch. If I could give zero stars, I would. Don’t waste your time.

Becoming bloatware

What happened to this once fine piece of software?

It's minutes away from being uninstalled. Sick of the constant annoying pop-ups to buy it ALLLLL the time, the annoying coloured underscoring for change suggestions, that are poorer than your own words you have entered. It's annoyed me that much to come here and enter this 1 star review.

Feels more robotic than human lately

I was pretty disappointed with Grammarly’s AI writing assistant. It catches basic spelling and grammar mistakes, but a lot of the suggestions don’t fit the tone or flow of what I’m actually trying to say. Sometimes it even changes things that were already correct, which gets frustrating fast.

It also tends to make writing sound stiff and robotic, especially if you’re trying to write naturally or creatively. For something that’s supposed to “improve” writing, it often feels like it’s just flattening it instead.

Not completely useless, but definitely not as smart or intuitive as it’s advertised to be.

Great app with nice service. Its function is really great. I can not afford to use it annually; however, I forgot to cancel my membership. I sent my trouble to Grammarly, and they solved it quickly. It just took 2 days to receive my refund.

Do NOT buy the paid version

Do NOT get Grammarly premium. It is a total scam. The software does not perform as you would expect. I paid for the Premium version and it writes like horrible AI. When I tried to cancel it, there is no customer service, no one to contact. I opened a ticket and waited for a response. Three weeks went by when I got an email saying they “are still reviewing the ticket”. I contacted my credit card company and they reached out to Grammarly and Grammarly said that there is no record of me trying to cancel the subscription. It is a scam.
