People Make the difference
People are what differentiates a service and today we were pleasently treated to a first class tyre fitting service by your representative "Tyler" from the Barker street branch.
A very personable and pleasent young man who provided an excellent tyre fitting service and showed us what a difference one person can make.
We would like to thank Tyler for a professional job when he visited us today and wish him well in his employment with the Halfords company as he was a great ambassador for the company.
This the second time we have used the mobile fitting service with National tyres/Halfords and we will encourage others to use this excellent service too.
Dangerous technical incompetence and appalling customer service at St Albans branch
I had an incredibly distressing experience at the Halfords St Albans branch regarding a simple battery replacement.
1. System Failure & Product Misguidance:
I used the Halfords website to match a battery to my registration and booked a 1-hour fitting. Upon arrival, the technician told me the website-recommended battery was incorrect. It is deeply concerning that your official tool provides wrong technical data, forcing customers to spend time rectifying it in-store.
2. Technical Incompetence & Risk of Damage:
Despite claiming 4 years of experience, the technician clearly did not know how to handle my car model. He attempted to pull out hoses with brute force instead of removing the necessary screws and fittings. I had to look up a YouTube tutorial myself to show him the correct steps, and at one point, he even asked ME how to disassemble it. Most alarmingly, he caused coolant to spray all over the engine bay. The reassembly was equally shambolic—missing screws and parts forced back into place without any care.
3. Product Knowledge Gap:
The staff struggled to identify the correct battery, initially suggesting the wrong model multiple times. When asked about the differences between products, they were unable to provide any clear explanation, leaving me feeling completely unsupported as a consumer.
4. Billing Absurdity & Poor Service:
Because the correct battery found in-store was actually cheaper than my online order, I expected a refund of the difference. Instead, due to a discrepancy between the Retail and Online systems (£160 online vs £120+£40 fitting in-store), the staff member at the till tried to charge me EXTRA.
Despite showing my digital receipt, the staff refused to resolve the internal system error and told me to "call CS myself." I spent 30 minutes on the phone at the counter with no help. Eventually, they waived the extra charge but still failed to refund the price difference, which I am still chasing.
Summary:
This branch demonstrated a total lack of professionalism, technical skill, and basic customer care. I am now worried about the long-term impact on my car due to their forced handling. Avoid this branch at all costs.
Halfords Tyre failed but they’re not liable?!
Why does Halfords Mobile Expert have two profiles on TrustPilot? One profile with a decent rating and the other with a poor rating?
I bought two tyres in September 2025, and recently I noticed one of those tyres has a bulge the size of a golf ball in the wall of the tyre that is growing from inside out.
There is no damage to the tyre wall or tread.
Today a mobile fitting technician was sent out to inspect the tyre who told me it has clearly failed due to a fault, but when he phoned through to his hub, he was told it has not failed and that it is the result of a pothole despite there being no external damage and the other three tyres being completely unaffected.
I have taken the tyre to an independent garage who has told me the tyre structure has failed and that this is not the result of a pothole.
Today I raised a complaint with someone in Africa, only to be told I would have to wait 7 days for a response because there are no managers on the floor. When I asked how the company is run with no managers, he said there is a manager on lunch and that when he gets back he will be very busy dealing with his other work, which obviously makes me feel as though Halfords are not taking this seriously.
The mobile expert
The mobile expert, Rich, based in Bristol changed and recoded my battery yesterday. Very efficient and a job well done.
Booked mobile tyre fitter on Halfords…
Booked mobile tyre fitter on Halfords Samlet RD website for Sunday 15/03/26 paid for tyres on booking. Waited in all day and evening , tyre fitter didn’t show , tried to get in touch without success . Phoned Halfords Samlet Rd and was told nothing to do with us ( booked on their website ) . Here’d nothing Following day although I had emailed customer service on three occasions, with no reply , tried to speak to a person on the phone , impossible the web sites don’t allow it two days later still no communication from Halfords , sent another email, still no reply . I got in touch with my payment supplier ten minutes later they got back saying Stuart Harvey would contact me (he didn’t ) three days later text message from Halfords to cancel , no explanation no apology. Sorry this review is long , iff you ignore all the reviews about Halfords this is what to expect . Shame on you Halfords , shame on you Stuart Harvey whoever the hell you are .if I could have given 0 star .
Disaster that is Halfords
Had to have my locking wheel nuts removed today which cost me £200 because Halfords so called technicians tightened them up too much and stripped the locking wheel nut socket.
Interesting isn't it how they airgun the nuts up way over tight and then use a torque wrench which is obviously going to click as they are way over torqued already.
Apparently the Manager of Derby hub called Andy has no manager and is next down from the CEO. Extremely flat management structure which is clearly not working as the operation is a shambles
Mixed reviews on Trustpilot but my…
Mixed reviews on Trustpilot but my experience was certainly 5* - Booked appointment online at 10.30 for a replacement battery, Elliot (West Yorkshire) arrived 13.30 and fitted the battery within 30mins he was friendly, professional, and knowledgable.
Certainly a credit to Halfords Mobile

Feedback for Jay at Chelmsford as I don't have QR code activator. Jay was polite, helpful and efficient. He answered all my queries with confidence, which was reassuring. Thanks Jay
Booked a battery fitting all went horribly wrong
Booked a battery fitting, they got the fitting wrong 3 times. First they installed the wrong battery and came back round to my house at 9pm to replace it (without a meeting they just turned up). Then the battery died after about a few weeks. Called for a replacement they fitted it today and fitted the wrong battery again. This time they fitted a stop start battery when my car is not stop start so now I have a car that doesnt work. Seriously and I cannot stress this enough avoid Halford at all costs
Ordered 4 tyres for mobile fitting but wrong ones were set to be delivered.
Ordered 4 tyres for mobile fitting. They cancelled the first appointment because the tyres hadn't arrived from their warehouse. We rearranged for a few days later but I noticed that the Tyres had changed from the ones I'd ordered, to a worse rating but a higher price? It was only a subtle change in the same brand and size but instead of the ABA Fuel Wet Noise rating the alternatives were CBB rating and more expensive. This was done without asking me, and the fitter would have turned up with Tyres that looked right but weren't. I wonder how many this has happened to before as I'm sure most people wouldn't have noticed until they got the higher bill? When the fitter phoned I queried the tyres and he told me what his paperwork said. They were the wrong ones, and I cancelled the order. So it got worse an Invoice was e-mailed to me charging me for the call out that I didn't have?? And the Phone number and Email address on the invoice were both not in use!! I've now had to phone Halfords Twice to make sure of my full refund! Amazon it is from now on!!
I put 1 star as there wasn't an option…
I put 1 star as there wasn't an option for zero stars. My tyre was fitted, it went flat within 10 miles, some one came to look at it and said we hit a pothole or kerb. That was not the case. Halfords just washed their hand of it and didn't want to know.
I'll never use Halfords again for anything.
We received excellent service
We received excellent service, punctual, no faffing about. 25 minutes - job done. He was curtous to my wife (who delt with the fitter). Treated her with respect and not as a dumb women with a car.
Rude and inconsiderate
8.30 on a Saturday morning, van running its engine for 40 minutes, blaring music and mechanic shouting conversation with neighbour over the top of all this. Thanks Halfords
Useless service for fitting tyres DO…
Useless service for fitting tyres DO NOT USE.
quick and efficient
Turned up on time, polite and professional. Quick and efficient
Rang to book an appointment for a tyre…
Rang to book an appointment for a tyre repair and could hardly understand a word the operative was saying.
Eventually managed to make a booking and was told someone else would call me to take a payment. This didn't happen but I received emails confirming an appointment on the day of booking and another the day of the appointment so I assumed that I would pay on the day. Nobody turned up so I called to find out why to be told the appointment hadn't been confirmed because no payment had been received even though I'd received confirmation emails. Again, I could not understand the operative as his English was very poor. Cancelled appointment - complete shambles - do not touch them with a barge pole.
RUDE ARROGANT MOBILE EXPERT DAMAGED MY CAR!
On Saturday 28th Feb I was due to have a Halfords Mobile 'Expert' to come to my car and fit a new paid online battery. Even thou I had booked the 8am - 8pm time slot, something unexpected had come up, so I called the customer service at about 9.55am to see If there was anyway they could give me at least a rough time of the mobile fitter coming to me, they kept me waiting on the call whilst he tried to call the fitter, the customer service came back on the call and said that he can not get in contact with either the fitter or his manager, then advised me that the fitter will call when he is on way, and also for me to use the Halfords tracking link via the confirmation email. I checked the tracker at 10.30ish and it confirmed that the fitter had started his jobs at 10.20am. At around 13.50pm I looked at the tracker again and it said that the fitter had completed 7 out of 8 jobs, me being the 8th, then at 13.56pm it read that he will be with me shortly, whilst waiting I saw a Halfords mobile fitter van go straight past my house then literally 5 minutes later went past on the other side of the road! I waited until 14.15pm and still no fitter! I called customer service once again to ask what was happening? The advisor again tried to call the fitter and once again no answer! At 14.45pm the fitter called to say he can not find my address, even thou strangely he was using a sat nav! When I explained that my car that he was looking for was in clear plain view within the road, and had been all day, he then proceeded to say that apparently he was looking for a Hyundai, not my car which is a Peugeot, as it says on my invoice!! He eventually found the correct address and my car, only to open the bonnet and say "oh for f... sake its one of these ones" not very professional in any companies standards. He then continued to moan that he couldn't get the battery cover off, this is when he snapped off the battery terminal cover, then when he forcibly removed the air filter housing, I heard something snap, I asked him what was that, he denied hearing anything, to which I pointed through the engine and told him that there was 2 pieces of black plastic laying there, that wasn't there before! he thought I never saw him when he then pick up the 2 pieces of plastic and throw them in the hedge next to my car!! I have since been told by a mechanic that the plastic was in fact holding the air filter, which now moves around! He proceeded to very hastily fit the battery, slamming down my bonnet and got in his van and drove off before even checking to see if the battery was fitted correctly or that my car started okay!. I am to say the least absolutely disgusted in the attitude (which was obviously down to being caught out on his start time and whereabouts) but most of all the rudeness and the fact that he thinks its okay to swear like that in front of customers. This experience, is for sure going to prevent me from EVER using Halfords supposed Mobile Experts again. I will be contacting the Ombudsman for Halfords and use every site that I can with a review like this one! It is disgusting that you allow members of staff to behave in this manner and damage my car!!
damaged my car
Called out Halfords mobile fitting service to replace a flat battery. After removing and refitting items to gain access a warning light came on and stayed on. The mechanic turned it off using diagnostic machine and disappeared. Light came back on. Complained to Halfords and took it to Canterbury garage. They diagnosed a DPF issue and turned off the warning light. Took it to Ford and they found a damaged connector and wiring linked to air box which they repaired. Don't expect Halfords to fix damage, they will fob you off.
Went in to Halfords to get a basic…
Went in to Halfords to get a basic repair, headlight done today. Paid in advance for for blub and fitting. Store empty. 2 people in pop in spaces. Came out, with in 3 mins a space was available. One man working on the last car in the other space. That took about 10 mins. No problem. He then left the pop up store to do two other people in the store, regarding something else. Came back out 15 mins later, no sorry nothing. His work colleague came out enquiring about a red car that was parked up. I intercepted their convo and stated I had been waiting for 25 mins, only then was I priotitised. Absolute disgusting customer service, for zero queues. 2 years ago when I got them to replace a blub, the turnaround was 5-10 mins but that was with people booked in. So disappointed.
Worst Tyre Buying Experience I’ve Ever Had
I ordered five tyres from National Auto Tyres, to be fitted by Halfords Mobile (as they’re the same company).
Only one tyre was fitted — to my Fiat 500. The other four were for my MINI Cooper, but the fitter refused to install them because they were 215 width instead of 205.
For context, 215/45/17 is a size I’ve run on MINIs for over 15 years without issue, and it’s even a factory size option on some models. There was absolutely no valid reason to refuse fitment. It felt like a box-ticking exercise rather than someone applying actual knowledge or common sense.
They told me the tyres would be cancelled.
They weren’t.
I then spent nearly two weeks chasing via emails and phone calls. Emails were completely ignored, and getting through to someone competent on the phone was almost impossible. When I finally reached someone who could sort it, there was no apology — just a blunt and rude attitude, as if I was the inconvenience.
An absolute joke from start to finish.
This is easily the worst customer service experience I’ve had when buying tyres. I will never use Halfords or National Tyres again.
