It’s one of those things I thought was…
It’s one of those things I thought was a good idea. However, I found the reality harder. We’ve had the hotbin for a couple of months and it first took a while to get it hot and that was only when grass was added. To keep feeding it is a great thing but it’s a struggle to keep also supplying the shredded paper and cardboard, and the wood chips that need adding are also expensive. The hotbin itself is expensive. Given all this to me it’s cheaper to put everting in the green bin and just buy compost. So I’m not sure it was a wise choice to get this.

Always use the internal thermometer to measure the temperature as it can be up to 20 degrees hotter inside than the reading on the lid.
The ratios of paper and woodchips are only a guideline and you will find that you can vary these quantities based on the types of waste you are adding e.g. if adding leaves you can add less paper than if adding vegetable peelings. You can also use hard garden pruning's as a substitute for the woodchip

Love the bin but the door at the bottom…
Love the bin but the door at the bottom keeps coming open and I’m not able to tighten it up very easily. Some sort of easy to use catch would make it a five.

The door straps can be a little fiddly. The simplest fix is to pull the strap as tight as you can while holding it steady as you fasten it. If you’re still struggling to get a snug fit, a handy trick is to place a small wedge between the bin wall and the strap to help take up the slack and tighten it down. Hope this helps!

I came to HotBin Composting through a friend
I came to HotBin Composting through a friend, so I bought the 100l bin. It's very good, heats up with very little effort on my part and is neat and tidy fitting into a small corner. I did get the base and extra chippings to help but I have barely used the chippings. I may get another next year, just see how I go with this one.
I am very happy with the hotbin and the whole experience was easy and quick.

Great to hear the 100L is heating up without you having to fuss over it, and that it’s sitting neat and tidy in a small corner (composting that doesn’t take over the garden and saves space).
The base (plinth) is a smart add-on to help drain the liquid fertiliser. And don’t worry about barely touching the wood chippings. Users typically find they come in handy when you are adding “wetter waste" like peelings, tea bags, coffee grinds and grass, a handful of chippings here an there help to aerate the bin!
