A waste of a day!
After a nightmare journey to NEC they wanted to charge us £40 each to walk "through" a car show, to get to the auction door, where it would then cost us another £10 to get in to pay them 18% commission on purchases. When you take into account the £18.50 it costs to park the van there, I think they're taking the proverbial. We decided to try and bid online, so we went to the national motorcycle museum for a coffee and to register online. With Bonham's or H&H thats a simple thing to do, but not with these clowns (Iconic auctioneers).... After phoning them twice, to get help registering on their useless website we gave up and went home. During one of the calls, the lady said "it does tell you on our website that you have to buy tickets for the car show" ... Actually what I read (and I have double checked it) is "a ticket to the auction does not allow you to enter the car show"! That's fine because I'm not interested in entering the car show. I never saw it say"you have to buy a ticket for the car show (@£40 each) to then pay another £10 to enter the auction
Believe me, I've left a lot out of how bad these auctioneers were!
I've been attending classic motorcycle & classic car auctions on a regular basis for over 25 years and never had an experience like the one today.
I did have issues with them once before. They used to be called "Silverstone auctions" a few years ago. I went to one their auctions in London. I was after a BSA they had. First, after driving all the way from Derby with my trailer, they told me any purchases wouldn't be released until the following day 😳, as it happened I didn't buy anything anyway. But what really rattled my cage was, certain lots advertised as "No Reserve" didn't sell after reaching what I would say was decent prices! The following day I emailed them for an explanation. Their reply was unbelievable! They said the auctioneer didn't receive any bids and he was making them up to try and get interest 😳 Now I know that happens but I would have thought it was illegal. No reserve should mean no reserve!
Today was the first time I've been to one of their auctions since. I'll definitely be the last.

Dear Mr Dickens. It appears you had a very frustrating experience!
I have looked in our system and you did successfully manage to set up an online bidding account, but I am sorry if you found the set up difficult. It is not that dissimilar to other auction houses.
With regards to entry fees, it does clearly explain on our website that " If you plan to visit the show or bid in person at the event you will need a show ticket" and that "Entry to the auction saleroom is by catalogue only, available to purchase on the day for £20 (admits two people) £10 on Sunday." This is the case with all our event based auctions.
The NEC parking charges are out of our control, they are operated and managed by the venue, not us or the Show Organisers. It did say on our website that if you pre-pay for parking online you can save up to £5 off the price.
