Slowish delivery but good tracking once despatched. Product is good but instructions are poor. No OCR software included. Price varies according to what offers Canon Iris has. Don't pay full price.

Since my acquisition of the Good acquisitionIRIScan

Since my acquisition of the IRIScan - Desk 5, I have been delighted with its use, simple and quick but a shame that it lacks the possibility of adjusting the color, brightness and contrast. That would be a plus!!!

I chose pro6 for book and magazine scanning. It is better than what I had but still needs improvement for scanning open books.

Great devices!

The scanner was delivered in a timely manner -- as promised. I have used the desk 5 pro for a year or so and gave it to my son and bought a desk 6 pro for me. Both devices work just as advertised. I even recommended one for my brother -- which he bought last week.

Overall happySpeed of scanning

Speed of scanning. However it is difficult to keep a book open and as flat as possible, because you need a finger of both hands so that someone else need to push the scan button.

IRIScan Desk Pro V6 first use experience: Book Scanning

I just bought the IRIScan Desk Pro V6. I found the following with my first use:
- If you use the standard settings, it is easy to use, as promoted.
- If you want to produce good quality, it becomes cumbersome:
My Task is to scan elder books of which no more reprints are available. So I got such books from friends, even with good black & white contrast quality. My goal is to get a searchable PDF which can be read in good quality. I do not want to destroy the binding of the paperback books, but keep them in good condition, because they are borrowed.
- 1st attempt to use picture setting color: As I cannot press the back to hard, the paper is curved. This results in different light reflections to the camera which results in different colors instead of the black&white and some blue oval forms an each page of the book. The result is no where near what I would like to have. So my decision ist to forget about the blue of the oval form and try black&white picture setting.
- With black&white picture setting I recognize very shortly that the result is not usable for OCR recognition, as the writing was incomplete (letter missing, incomplete letters depending on the light reflection of the paper) due to the different light reflection of the curved book pages. I did not find any setting for the level of grey to be used as clipping point between black and white. So my decision was to try picture setting greyscale.
- Using greyscale picture setting results in readable text with
1. more or less grey background depending on the light reflection due to the curved book pages.
2. Fingers holding the book were only partly removed automatically (despite option hide fingers).
3. Partly curved writing lines depending on how good I was able to hold the upper curved page margin parallel curved to the lower page margin. (Cropping: Curve Fitting)
So my solution was as follows:
1. Scan the book pages in picture setting grayscale trying to keep the upper and lower curved page margin parallel.
2. Use a picture editor for any page to remove the grey background by changing contrast and brightness manually to an optimum. Mostly the remainders of the fingers were removed with this as well, if not I used white forms and pasted them on top.
3. Use IrisScan 17 to perform the OCR function to produce a searchable PDF. (I did not find any possibility to input the optimized page pictures back to Iris Scan Desk pro V6.).
So finally I got usable results but with much more effort than I expected.
Starting Conditions: The book was nearly new quality, very good black & white contrast, page size A6. I used the 4 LED of IRIScan Desk pro, trying different brightness. Best result was at maximum.
OS: MacOS Sonoma.

Very disappointing

Operating the device is hard, because the buttons do not respond. When scanning a book with the Iriscan Book 5, the results are hopeless. I can get better results with my mobile phone and Adobe Acrobat.

I love scanner

I love scanner, but thought it came with additional software options of readiris and cardirus but it keep requesting an activation key I can't find. Does work with IRISScan Desk Pro though.

IRIScan Executive 4 Scanner and software

Initially I purchased IRIScan Executive 4, but then found out that the associated software did not fully support the scanner as the software was effectively out of date. After discussing this with the HelpDesk, they provided a solution which fully catered for what I was wanting to do. I was very impressed with the manner in which they provided assistance and for the end solution which very satisfactorily met my expectations.

Ordering process was straight forward

Ordering process was straight forward, and notifications of delivery status were good.
When opening the package and following the instructions on how to install product, I was directed to a website with very simple videos about what is in the box and what the product can do, but no clear instructions on how to fetch and install the software. I eventually downloaded a zip file, but without any instructions I unpacked this zip file and then tried launching different executables within the contents and got a few applications related to the product installed, but no centralized "control centre" type app with a link on the home page.

when using translation in Dutch…

when using translation in Dutch sometimes letters are not correct on the screen, but they are strange graphical signs....?
installing and using Readiris 17 was a problem because I still had the former REadiris 16 on my laptop. Advice should be to remove 16 prior to installation of 17. (17 could not find the scanner untill I removed 16... then it went ok)

Better way to start feeding the paper…

I would like a better way to feed the paper in. A small edge to lay the paper on to get it to feed squarely into the machine. Also, would like more video on using button feature,
The product is very good and both sides come out great. Saves a lot of time to flip the paper and feed it again.
