Selling misleading items that don't even work
My first experience with an auction site was not worth the stress. I received a different item than the one advertised, and it doesn’t even work. I feel extremely disappointed. I just hope karma catches up with those scammers.
How can this company survive
How can this company survive. After buying from them on 3 occasions I realized that I should have taken notice of the terrible reviews and steered awsy. My advice would be...pay a bit extra and buy from a reliable source.... avoid these scammers at all costs.

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!!
AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!!
I purchased a carpet cleaner from here for not to much under RRP believing the product should be a good item. When i recieved it the box looked like the images shown on the website. Upon removing the cleaner there were visible internal wires on show, all extra parts were missing, it was absolutely filthy as if been used and when i went to see if it actually worked, it wouldnt even power on.
Daylight robbery and absolutely no way to get my monet back as they hide behind their sold as seen comment.
Please keep your hard earned money and buy elsewhere.
Awful
They are appalling. This is the unclaimed profile. They have another profile where you should leave your complaints as that one has has been cleaned. These are awful awful people.
completely junk and broken products…
completely junk and broken products they sell to people with ridiculous fees and delivery charges. I bought stuff and now I stopped because they are extremely rubbish products and its a waste of money

Avoid .They post nice pictures online ,items boxed but when you receive you will get rubbish.
Electrical stuff will be either used ,like a toaster with breacrumbs in it for full price or totally damaged but in a brand new box.
Avoid them at all cost ,this company should be closed check them on facebook is a group with thousand of people who’s been scammed by JohnPye.
This company says customer service is…
This company says customer service is their top priority, whilst scamming their customers, selling faulty, filthy and potentially disease ridden items. They provide an extremely vague description of items, but also list the RRP to lead you to believe the items have some value, for them to be delivered faulty, filthy, filled with old food debris and leaving a stench within the house once opened.
Once contacting the company, they told me the photos they use are from Stock, even thought the boxes in the photos are the EXACT boxes I received. They also copy and paste a part of them terms and conditions which basically says they are exempt from any consumer laws, because they offer a 2 hour window on a Friday afternoon to view their lot. They have no care for their customers, they hold no accountability or empathy, and I cannot advise seriously enough to avoid this company.
One box, which was clearly for an air fryer, within the lot I purchased actually contained an iron, which was not noted in the lot description. The Ninja Air fryer that they detailed in capitals, with an RRP of £270 did not turn on. The drawers were vile. It stank as soon as I opened the box. The entire thing was covered in rust, mold and food debris. They hold no accountability for any food related bacteria that entered my home when they delivered the item. I'm not joking when I say this could have caused someone to become seriously sick from the amount of mold and old food the air fryer was covered in.
I would never buy from this company
I would never buy from this company. The item I purchased wasn’t the one in the auction pictures! The item in the auction lot were brand new and when I collected the products they were badly used. They said in their terms and conditions that the lot may vary from the pictures! How is this acceptable and fair.
I bid on some power tools and all 5…
I bid on some power tools and all 5 items that i 'won' were useless. 4 items had the battery terminals smashed so of no use, and 1 item was marked up as a display only model not working. You could not see any of the faults on the images shown.
A complete scam, stay away.
Terrible experience
My experience with this company has been extremely disappointing. I was dealing with a representative named Persephone, and sadly, the level of service I received was unacceptable from start to finish.
We purchase a garden furniture set, which was supposed to include a sofa, two armchairs, and a table — but one of the armchairs was missing upon delivery. Despite clear evidence that all items were dispatched from the auction house, the company failed to locate the missing piece and showed absolutely no compassion for the situation.
What made it worse was the complete lack of empathy or responsibility. The process was incredibly stressful for both me and my wife, yet the company treated it as a minor issue and only offered £50 in compensation for the missing armchair — a gesture that felt dismissive and insulting given the circumstances.
They were more concerned about the numbers than about customer satisfaction, and it’s shocking that they were willing to lose us — and potentially future customers — over such a small amount.
I requested to escalate this to senior management, but that too was not made easy. I will not be using their services again and strongly advise others to think twice. This review reflects the reality of our experience, in hopes of warning others
Misleading listings, poor condition items
I bought a Ninja Blast through John Pye Auctions and it arrived completely dead. It flashes once and never powers on, even after charging for days. The listing didn’t clearly say it might be spares or repairs or untested, only that it was an auction item. For £72, I expected at least a working or usable unit. Customer support refused to help and said all sales are final.
It’s very disappointing and I’ll never buy from them again. If you’re thinking of bidding, be aware that items can be faulty or incomplete, even if they look new in the photos.
Supports false advertisement
I was sold a falsely advertised product with entirely different specifications to what I had based my bid on and John Pye simply doesn't care. They responded once to my initial ticket creation asking for evidence (prior to delivery since I was trying to stop the item being delivered) and never responded after that, even when I provided multiple evidence pictures. They seem to just ignore customers when they have a legitimate issue with no regard as to the service they provide.
I've been forced to initiate a dispute with my bank to get my money back and report this incident to trading standards.
I would avoid John Pye at all costs, and just opt for other platforms like eBay where they respect and protect consumers, as well as your money. John Pye is nothing short of a scam.
Horrendous company, junk!
Complete junk. Bought three seperate items and none of them worked and had missing parts. Made a complaint and received a cut and paste reply basically saying you buy at your own risk. I bought in good faith assuming things were in working order. Fees and delivery costs on top are ridiculous. There's a reason they don't provide any information about the items condition on their auction site, The photos are very misleading. They have a very bad reputation for a reason. Stay away, don't waste your money.
Do not waste your money … a complete scam …
I bought a Turbo Henry vacuum cleaner for £70.
When it was delivered I opened the box and it was obvious from the smell that it was second hand. It smelt of dog and it was broken. I cannot use it. The head of the brush was completely smashed . All the accessories were missing. It was a complete waste of £70 and it will be going to the tip.
BUYER BEWARE
I bought a 34 inch monitor from this company. Total cost £160.
When I took delivery of it firstly half the stand was missing... Not mentioned in the advert although the screen was out of the box so they would have known this but failed to reference this in the auction listing.
The bigger problem with this auction item is that the screen is damaged and this was not visible in the photograph of the screen. Again they failed to mention this in the advert despite clearly stating this in other auction listings for monitors. So in the whole scheme of things, with this not being referenced, a buyer would reasonably expect it to be in working order.
They said how they invite customers to attend to view but when it would mean a 200 mile round trip to the nearest location, this is not practical so buyers are reliant on their description and quality of photograph.
They are now saying the damage was visible in the photograph (which it wasn't).
Q. So why did they not label it as damaged as they have done with others?
A. Because it wasn't visible.
So I now have paid £160 for an HDMI cable, a power lead, half a stand and a 34 inch paperweight in the shape of a computer monitor because of their misrepresentations.
If you want a good deal on your auctions with meaningful customer service and consumer protection probably best sticking to eBay. If you don't then absolutely use John Pye & Sons Ltd.
Probably treating customers unfairly since 1968!
The John pye action site came up on my…
The John pye action site came up on my phone so I thought I would have a go at buying and selling a few electrical goods. In total I purchased 9 items toasters, microwave,s x (2), steam iron, One set of GHD,s.
The microwave,s. One was dented badly the other not working. Airfryer working has should. GHD broken, Steam iron,s not working ( used ). Both toasters have clearly been used bread crumbs at the bottom both not working.
When engaging with John Pye by email the simply remind you about the terms and conditions I ticked, which is fare enough. That being said, I would not expect in any circumstances to be able to purchase someone's old used electal goods, (just put them in a skip, which is what I'm going to have to do.
Your purchased goods will be delivered boxed and packed professionally to protect them from being damaged.
Absolute Joke Of A Place
Absolute disgrace service from Birmingham auction house. Bought a sofa and paid right away in June 2025, contacted them in July and told they would raise the issue and I would here back in 3-4 days. 2 weeks later contacted again and this time I received an email confirming they would get back to me within 3 days. No one contacted me so 30days later I contacted them to be told customs won't send it over to Northern Ireland lol.. when my friend bought a sofa in July and is sitting on it in his house? Anyway customs don't have any problem with sofas coming across the water to Northern Ireland UK.
I JUST FIND THIS TO BE ABSOLUTE JOKE FROM BIRMINGHAM AUCTION ROOM
it seems if you get a bargain they run into postage problems. THE FIGHT GOES ON👍
Never ever again
Wish you had a zero star bought a palet it was advertised and pictures taken where misleading a whole big pallet with a tall box containing 15 broken waste vacum cleaners of the 15 items only to things worth less than £20 never ever again
