We absolutely love Kent Veg Box

We absolutely love Kent Veg Box, we order by weekly and is something we all looking forward to receive on delivery day! The variety in the boxes, the option to exclude if we know something isn't going to be consumed, how we know is from farms nearby so we are helping local friends and how fresh is everything just makes us happy. We do own an allotment and paired with the Kent Veg Box we try so many new veggies that simply, we wouldn't try or find in the supermarket for such good quality. If then I can just mention Steve and Becca who are super helpful anytime you have a question, a request, and are a delight, that is why I marked this a 5 star review!! Thank you for doing a great job, it mustn't be easy week on week to organise, support all customers and farmers and deliver the goodies for everyone!!

Fruit and veg very fresh and flavorful

Fruit and veg very fresh and flavorful. Yes, it's caked in mud when it arrives. It's not as pretty as conventional veg, but it tastes way better and I find that with supermarkets in London getting more and more expensive, this is actually not much more. I decided to try out the subscription when I had got yet another sad, dry bag of supermarket tangerines that I didn't want to finish. The oranges from the box were so sweet and bursting in flavor, we finished them in just a few days. Plus it supports local farms at a time when needed the most. I think it's a perfect solution for car-free London folks who want to delicious produce.

Fresh, seasonal and fair

Really enjoy being able to receive quality, fresh and seasonal produce, knowing it supports a local economy end not creating air miles.
Communication is great, never had any delivery issues and the price is fair.

Fresh fruit and veg that's great quality

Kent Veg Box do exactly what it says on the tin: good quality, very fresh fruit and veg from farmers in Kent. I rather like that carrots can arrive crusted with mud that reminds me how they grow, and the apples are hugely much tastier and crisper than those from the supermarkets. more varieties too.

Great veg box

I have subscribed to Kent veg box for years. I feel that it offers good value and the vegetables are great quality (much better than odd box). Yes the vegetables come with a little mud on them, but that's part of the enjoyment of preparing them, planning different recipes and cooking them up! I would recommend the add on farm eggs.

I was sad to see the previous reviews…

I was sad to see the previous reviews because I love my veg box. I live alone so I've had to change from weekly to fortnightly to manage the contents. I have had turnips in previous boxes and I would not usually buy these but accept that winter is not the most productive time. Having said that this weeks small box contained sprouts on their stalk, broccoli, celery, kale, leeks, a huge white cabbage, parsnips and beetroot. I admire the ethos behind this company and am not worried about keeping the vegetables for a week or so as they are so fresh.

Very disappointed new customer

I was sent an email to say try Kent veg box for half price… this I did and had to subscribe at the same time. Well I am so pleased that I did not pay £18 which would have been full price. The contents in the box are as follow.
I marrow ( half soggy and off)
carrots ( 5 small edible others mostly full of black insect holes ) straight to compost bin.
2 beetroot’s
( l large and 1 like a spring onion size)
2 sweetcorn’s ( very nice)
2 squash’s ( very nice)
1 bag floppy salad ( straight in bin)
1 bag x 3 chicory ( really that much, who uses chicory that much) most of the edible leafs were given to my tortoises.
1 small cabbage ( quite soft)

Am I being unreasonable??

I emailed to cancellation my subscription a few days ago and asked to confirm that this has been done… nothing confirmed as yet!
I will drive further afield to a village farm shop where I can choose my produce and not be mislead.
I thought it would be good to support the local farmers but sorry this company is not for me.

Be prepared to prepare

I really like being able to support UK growers, and have used Kent Veg Box on and off over the years.

Not everything is in perfect condition, and I do feel like it's just haphazardly thrown into a box with a wing and a prayer.

But in the summer when there's a lot of variety, I like to subscribe. Just remember it's going to come straight from the field, and you'll need to do some prep when it arrives. I scrub everything really well, prep it how I like for my use, and essentially make it into how it'd come from the grocery store.

It's not as cheap or as easy as getting it from Ocado but it's tasty and I know I'm supporting local farmers.

Real food

The food is so very fresh and delicious. We love inventing what to do with it each week - it is not ever a problem. Wouldn't do without it. There are only two of us at home now and a medium box plus fruit, eggs and milk usually lasts until the end of the weekend.

Really poor

Really poor, 1st box was half price. I received 2 x parsnip, 1 x purple broccoli head (floppy), 1 x bag of baby salad leaf, 1. X cucumber (soggy and mouldy), 5 x tomatoes (over ripe), 1 x savoy cabbage (floppy) and a cigarette butt. A complete waste of money! I’m just glad I didn’t pay full price for this. Poor quality and not value for money. Shame on you KVB!!

Really really disappointed

Really really disappointed. I ordered a medium box for half price.
Carrots had excessive mud on them which was hiding the worm holes. Carrots were inedible.
The brussel sprouts had mould on and also inedible. For the money I paid even at half price was not worth it.
Save your money and go to oddbox.

Rather disappointing

Great berries the strawberries and raspberries are super sweet. The strawberries are from Hugh Lowe farms and their berries are phenomenal.
Unfortunately while I would have loved to support local the veg boxes are not fresh and caked in mud. Wonky veg is just as wonderful as regular ones however muddy broken carrots are not wonky just damaged and dirty. The spring onions also caked in mud had to have most of the leaves removed as they were yellow and mushy. And a single serving of gritty purple tender stem broccoli is very underwhelming.

First off, let's talk about the impeccable quality of the produce. From the moment I opened my veg box, I could see that only the best of the best had made its way into my kitchen. The vegetables were so fresh and vibrant that they practically jumped out of the box, begging to be turned into mouthwatering meals.

Fresh veg on the doorstep

I have been using Kent Veg Box for a few weeks now. We buy the medium box for two of us and it works out about right as we eat a lot of veg. You can buy extras from them either on a weekly, or on a 'as and when' basis. And they have a good website to organise this. A major like is the fact that there's minimum packaging and when you open the box it smells good and fresh. At first I didnt realise that I should check the website if I wanted to see what i would get each week but I've come to enjoy that the contents are often a surprise, and I'm learning how to use veg that i would normally bypass through lack of knowledge or laziness. It's there on my doorstep each week which is great and it's as if its been picked from an allotment. Lastly, the low food miles: the veg hasn't travelled far. I would recommend that you give it a try, if you're prepared to be flexible about it and understand that it's a local company with values about supporting local farmers and the environment. It feels good to bodyswerve the big supermarkets.

Really wanted it to work…too expensive

Firstly it’s a subscription service so be sure to cancel in advance if you don’t want a recurring order. They do offer 50% first order and then can postpone orders.

We really wanted to make this work. We want to support local and eat seasonal fruit and veg to the UK. So got the large box and included the following:
- 2 leeks
- large bag beetroot leaves
- bag of Brussels sprouts
- large head broccoli
- 6 carrots
- 2 fennel roots
- 1 swede
- 8 tomatoes

The quality was good and can tell it was fresh. Delivery was included as well so I think there is a market for this service.

However for £17 per month, for us it didn’t feel like great value for money, so our next option to eat local is to shop at our local greengrocers instead and hope (will ask) they use local farms. We’d have liked a mix of some fruit in with the veg for it to be worth it for our budget.

Overall good service, local and good quality, just not enough for us to continue receiving this.

Great local veg, straight from the ground

Lovely flavourful veg, miles away from the supermarket stuff. Presentation is a bit lacking, veg is just chucked in an open cardboard box with no note to explain what you've received this week (which results in some guessing games), but affordable and tasty.
