Atrocious hotel with a manager who lies.
We checked in after a long drive and the bath was broken in the room the tap was stuck on hot and the manager didnt know how to fix it. We asked for another room and she said no because they were fully booked so she said she would go off and call people to see if the bath could be fixed. As I have surgery early in the morning and its now late we decided to book another hotel. Once we booked another hotel the manager suddenly said they could give us another room by giving us another guests room and giving our room to that guest despite us having been in the room. Refused a refund despite the room not being fit for use as tried to claim there was a solution. Giving another guest a used room with a broken bath is not a solution. Manager was miserable and useless. Staff disinterested. Hotel lobby was filthy

Disappointing Spa Facility
Do not use this venue for a Spa package. We booked as part of a gift. Very small facility - you can fit 4 people max in the 1 x sauna and 1 x steam room. The pool is very small and while there they had baby swim class. Not relaxing, dirt and a tired hotel swimming pool. Avoid at all costs

Been to this hotel a few times with family and friends and had a great experiences the staff are very accommodating and can’t do enough to help you found Lisa very helpful on reception and nothing was to much trouble and we also had food and was served by Chloe who was very polite and served us our food with such good manners and if we needed anything saw to it that we got it , will definitely be coming back for another visit

This is now our goto hotel for a get away, been there twice, once to arrange a party and then the party. OK, so some rooms are a bit tired, however it is being updated over time. A working hotel cannot be renovated overnight. The grounds are magnificent, only exceeded by the staff. We were there for my wife's 80th birthday and we could not have enjoyed it more. From the minute we walked in, when greeted by reception as long lost friends, to departure we enjoyed every minute, with particular reference to the kitchen staff whom we did not get to congratulate. I will mention Francesca, Paul, Jan who did our room, Yacob, Chloe, and Ramm, the only names I remember. but a big hug and thank you to all the staff. Next visit we'll book for her 90th; maybe the one after!!!

I had a lovely stat at Kenwood Hall and the experience was made even better by the staff! In particular, Lisa, Reanna and Elise on reception, they went above and beyond to make sure that my stay was wonderful. Whatever the request, they were always on hand to ensure that whatever I needed was sorted.
I can tell the hotel has recently invested a lot in it's appearance with fresh paint, the gym has had a refurb (although some of the equipment is quite old) and I had a relaxing and quiet nights sleep. I would recommend staying there.

Faulty Towers
I booked a room through Hotels.com for Thur 26th June. I was not told when I booked that there was a prom that night and all I wanted was a quick meal and an early night.
The restaurant was full, as no other guests wanted to sit near the unbelievable loud music. There was also a coach tour of what can only be described as pensioners so to say it was busy was an understatement.
I stood 5 deep at the bar to order a Lamb Kofta hanging Kebab and a glass of wine. I asked for a receipt but because the music was so loud they ignored me and served the next person.
As you can see my food was very undercooked and ended up being eaten by the dogs sitting next to me. Please see the attached photo.
When I finished I asked to speak to the manager, he said that they were too busy to print my receipt but reception will print it for me in the morning.
I messaged the hotel from hotels.com to ask for the receipt in the morning and nearly a week later no response.
In the morning reception said that there was no manager on shift last night. They said I spoke to a supervisor and he should know that reception cannot print out bar receipts. One week later and after emails and messages, none have been replied to they do not care about customers at all.

Please don’t stay at this hotel over a weekend if you want you and your family to be able to sleep. The disco in the room below our family room was so loud we could hear every word and feel every beat. Reception staff just said it’s an event venue and there is nothing they could do.

Stopped here for two nights after we got married and also had our dog.
The receptionist Nicky was such a lovely lady and treated us so nice. Even had a complimentary drink which was very nice. Later on in evening whilst having some food, took time to ask us how we were and if everything ok, which was lovely of her.
Facilities were great. Pleasantly surprised with a dog bed and bowls in room already for the dog. Never had that in any other hotel.
Gardens and grounds were lovely.
Alisha was very helpful. Gave us some great recommendations for places to visit and were great. Thank you Alisha.
Would definitely recommend and would stop there again. Xx

Room cancelled after being booked for over 6 months, just so happens on the night of a big concert in Sheffield. Shocking
ALL AROUND DISGUSTING
Visited here in February for a spa day. I would give this zero stars if I could. The hotel was described as luxurious, an escape and relaxing however it was completely the opposite. Rather than luxury, there were dirty floors, mouldy windows surrounding us, hairs getting stuck to our feet and no sight of the complementary gowns or slippers to go alongside the day.
Rather than an ‘escape’ it was in fact cramped and the tiny pool was unusable due to 5 children occupying it, splashing (which covered the area people could sit), screaming and shouting. When we asked reception about this she was less than helpful, seemed confused and said she thought there were child restricted times (12-3pm off the top of her head). If this was the case, then she should not have let the children in at the time we were there (arrived at 10am) but it also should have been advertised that it was used for domestic use. We then found out there would be swimming lessons held there shortly after!
Rather than relaxing it was dirty, uncomfortable as the plastic sunloungers had no cushioning, loud, cramped, sweaty and the list goes on. We couldn’t even get into the green and misty pool as it was so small there was no possible way to avoid the screaming children inside it from splashing us.
We obviously didnt stay for the 2 course light lunch, and upon further investigation we were told it was basically a 1 course sandwich platter which again, was not as advertised.
We ended up leaving after just 30 minutes due to the poor conditions and paid additional money to go to a different spa to have the relaxing experience we were hoping for.
I had booked this experience for my pregnant friend, expecting it to be a calming and enjoyable time for her before going into labour. However, it ended up being quite the opposite, causing unnecessary stress and discomfort which can only be described as labour-inducing.
To top it all off, I've emailed them multiple times to try and get a refund and I have not heard a thing. Absolutely disgusting place, disgusting customer service.
The staff couldn’t be friendlier
The staff couldn’t be friendlier! Ellise on reception and check in was so friendly and polite and Nikki on check out. Felt like they had known us years. Chloe in the restaurant was so sweet and did great to say it was only her second day. Really felt all the staff would have gone above and beyond to ensure our stay was as blissful as possible. Can’t wait to come and stay again!

Guests: I have my suspicions that the hotel is desperately trying to juggle normal fee paying guests with what would appear to be a significant numbers of refugees/asylum seekers which spoilt the overall experience.

Stayed for four nights via Shearings.
Stayed for four nights half board via Shearings.
Expected a set menu for dinner but were allowed to take anything from the main menu.
Food very good. Breakfast excellent.
Room spacious and clean.
All staff friendly and helpful.
Only downside, hence four stars, was the bathroom not great in terms of black silicone and slippy bath with shower over. We also managed to pick the one week that the spa and pool were out of commission.
Plan to stay again next year.
Be VERY careful when booking in
Be VERY careful when booking in. They took a £100 deposit and despite OVER 12 attempts to get the £100 released back to my account and numerous promises, from the Manager and reception, nearly 1 week has passed and still no refund.
I have contacted Mercure directly as well but they have totally ignored ALL my e-mails.
I can only presume that this is a standard practice with this chain of hotels?
