I have used Lulu to produce several revisions of two books, and the experience has been very good. The publishing process allows an author to upload, revise, proof, and refine a book until the printed result is right. The online preview tools are useful, and the finished books have matched my expectations very closely. Print quality, binding, and especially the glossy cover reproduction have been excellent. Lulu has made it practical for an independent author to turn a Word manuscript into a professional-looking physical book without having to order hundreds of copies. I particularly appreciate being able to order individual proofs while continuing to improve the work.

Satisfied time after time
Over the years I have used Lulu for nine different books. For all of them I had a very limited number of copies produced. I received all in perfect condition and exactly as I expected them to be. I have recommended Lulu to others wishing to publish books.

My first experience wasn't good
My first experience wasn't good. The proof book showed errors that weren't visible online. Some of the interior text was faint eg. Chapters and although the cover looked correct online, the proof showed unacceptable white spaces around the edges of the book. The printing machine wasn't properly aligned. I asked for refunds for two books and my request was declined. The final outcome after I made changes to the interior was spot on and although I made no changes to the cover, someone on your side made the correct adjustment. The third proof was acceptable so it was approved and is now on sale in the Lulu Bookstore.

Two Miracles in One Week, Thank You, Lulu
I was tasked with writing a biography for my Dad. Now in his 80s and facing failing health, he’s been eager for me to finish, because his deepest wish was to sign copies and gift them to family and friends while he still can.
I ordered a prototype on July 27, along with 30 copies, knowing there might be changes to make, but time was of the essence, and the expected ship date was the week of August 11.
Needless to say, the 30 copies arrived at his home on July 31. That was the first miracle. The second miracle was that no changes were needed for global distribution.
We are beyond excited that he’s able to sign these 30 copies while he still has the strength. We even took photos and a video to capture the moment. I am truly grateful for Lulu and the service they provide; the books are absolutely outstanding in quality.
As an Indigenous author, I write with a message for the next seven generations, and this book is a treasure. Thank you, Lulu.

The quality of my coloring book
I absolutely love the look and feel of my Menopause Art coloring book covers. The pages look great too but I really wish they offered 80 lb uncoated card stock for our more serious artists wanting to work in colored pens and markers. Otherwise great prices and turnaround time, and great communication.

While mainly only using the site to print personal copies of my stories for myself and some family members. It is a life long dream having physical actual fully produced books from my own imagination on my shelf. Lulu makes it extremely simple, fun and affordable each time I finish another project. NO payment after 4 years
I've attempted to publish two books with lulu. The first one went smoothly and was successfully published, but after about 4 years, lulu refuses to pay me my $55.99 balance, i gave a second payment account, and every time I have contacted support i've been met with obstacles, at one point being told that the book was not fit for global distribution (which was totally fine before) and that was the problem, attempting to change anything has led to me being forced to order a second proof copy (which i do not need), and still not a single payment

We reviewed our records but were unable to locate any previous Support tickets associated with the information provided. We recommend submitting a new Support ticket. Our Support team will be happy to investigate what may be preventing the payment from being issued.
Regarding the proof copy, a new proof is required when a print book with distribution is revised. This occurs when the Project Creation Tool is reopened and the project is republished after changes are made to the interior and/or cover file. Once a project has been revised, the proof requirement cannot be bypassed. This allows the updated book to be reviewed before it is resubmitted to retailers and helps ensure it continues to meet the applicable distribution requirements.
We also understand your concerns regarding Global Distribution. Retailer requirements can change over time, and these requirements are determined by the retailers and distribution partners. As a result, a project that previously met the requirements may require updates before it can be resubmitted for distribution. If you include the Project ID in your Support request, our team can review the project and provide recommendations based on its current status.
Even if a project is not currently eligible for Global Distribution, you can continue selling it through the Lulu Bookstore while you work through any required updates.

Great Print Quality, Room for Better Author Pricing
I previously worked with IngramSpark, and to be honest, their paperback pricing is significantly better, especially for an author who really depends on decent margins. However, Lulu clearly wins when it comes to speed and print quality. Even such a simple but crucial thing as having the title and author name printed straight on the spine — not shifted to one side, not creeping onto the front or back cover — is something Lulu uniquely does well, and I sincerely hope you continue to maintain this level of quality.
I also really appreciate the regular monthly discounts — thank you for those.
