Non-existent customer service
I have been trying to contact Lycos for over a month now, used the ticket system - no response, emailed their info@ address several times - no response; emailed their marketing@ address - no response. Given that I pay for this service (and only because I've been a customer for 25 years or so), this is rubbish customer service. Since starting to pay for the email access, I get more spam emails and more of the standard emails get put into spam. Awful.
Had Lycos since 1998 Do not use LYCOS
Had Lycos since 1998. TBH they've been useless from day 1. I delete 90 to 150 spam phishing emails a day. My setting are on high. I tested on low and it was no different to high setting.
Always problems. Unbelievable.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND EVER USING LYCOS.. USELESS. INNEFICIENT. INCOMPETENT.
I've had my domain register with them…
I've had my domain register with them for 22yrs now. Two years ago, my desktop mail stopped getting my domain emails. All my other devices could send and receive email for this domain. Now I can't access my email on any device or web mail. Says my PW is wrong, which it's not. So I change it and that one won't work either. No way of talking to anyone either. I sent a ticket in but no response on alternate email account
I bought about 3 or 4 domains from…
I bought about 3 or 4 domains from Lycos through Angelfire with privacy protection. Last week April 16-17, 2020 my domain barrysscientificbasedproducts showed up missing on the domain manager through lycos domain manager. I published my science and technological works on my site yes they were copyrighted through Canada and I placed my trademark Barrys Scientific Based Products on the site to insure I have the final say. I contacted their registrar Tucows and showed them my domain was good until 06/01/2020. My work had IT product Design motherboards, Network Topology, Cryptographic Models. My security had sitelock and a positive SSL through comodos. Tucows claims that Lycos is a domain reselller. The idea I am getting is that they sold my domain without my permission since I held the rights to my works. I would like to see Lycos domain manager no longer able to sell domains through tucows or any other organization. Domain selling without the authors right to compensation is blatant robbery and theft. They should pay me for my loss. I will probably not buy any more domains through angelfire, lycos and associates. I spent over two years working and developing the website and it is a real shame. my other website barryequalityfieldequation was being redirected to porn, domain for sale, sound woofers when I asked to transfer the domain and am in the process. I had a good relationship with the company but these issues have caused me to give them a poor grade of two.

I've been TRYING to work with Athena Advantage support and they are hopeless. I've been trying to get their support to move some software from an old server to a new server and they helping me and avoid my questions. Their support is the worst I have ever come across.
Aviod paying for Lycos !
I paid the 3 year subscription before the end date but since then i have had up to 40 spam emails daily . I spend more time deleting spam emails than my genuine ones . I have opened several tickets to complain , at first they said the provider needs to learn the spam and it will soon stop , however it has not and the only thing that has stopped is the support response ! I have had free Lycos for well over 20 years and never had this spam issue . I'm regretting the 3 year subscription and will spend the remaining time transferring to a alternative email and phase this pitiful site out !
I had no clue who Lycos was until I…
I had no clue who Lycos was until I checked my PayPal and they charged me 4.95 for no reason. I dont understand how this happened but I put a block on my account so they wouldn't do it again. Thieves.....
Paid account deleted without warning!!!
Ainsley jo Phillips. How did you contact them to fix it??? This just happened to us!! Paid account. Used it earlier today. And now gone. No messages. No warnings. We are a paid account!!! 20+ years of contacts, account subscriptions just gone. WTH! How do you contact them???
Lycos Mail Ripped Me Off In The Middle Of The Night For No Good Reason!!!
SECOND UPDATE:
Today is Thursday, February 7, and my Lycos account is still behaving. My view of the service has gone from a single star to three stars and, now, four stars.
I still have no idea what caused that serious (an understatement!) glitch, but the important thing is that the people at Lycos got on the ball and corrected it with everything now back in place as it should be.
The first UPDATE (shown below -- and you can scroll on down after that to read the review) -- was written later in the day.
This shows a lot of dedication on the part of Lycos to get things corrected in a manner that was both prompt and efficient.
Thank you, Lycos, for a job well done!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~
UPDATE: My email has been restored, so I'm going to rate it higher now, Lycos is on probation. Will see what happens next. For now, it's up to a three. Will see how it behaves. It might even make it up to five stars if it's still behaving in December. Just call me Santa Jo and know that I can stuff a stocking nicely or bring out my coal, switches, and reindeer poop...
Today's Date: February 6, 2019
THIS is the date that I went from where, if I had reviewed it, giving my Lycos mail service five stars to actually reviewing it with a single star rating because there was no zero stars option.
My email was deleted without warning in the middle of the night as if it were a free account when, in fact, it was a PAID account with nothing due until several months from now.
They said that, if I paid my $49.95 for a three year subscription, it would be restored -- but my back emails wouldn't be.
This is pure BULL!!!
I had the payment arrangements where they would be taken out automatically through the Master Card that goes with my bank account.
As I said before, nothing was due to come out until the last part of the this year (2019).
When I tried to get help through their so-called support, my email address and password were no longer recognized.
How convenient! They can avoid confrontation that way!
I usually try to give individuals and businesses the benefit of the doubt...which is probably why I needed to give them at least one star.
And I WAS able to receive a lot of emails over the years, so that single star might be for taking that into consideration.
And, at one time, it DID give me free email until such a time that I could afford to have a paid account.
However, this is so costly to me when it comes to loss that my rating of it isn't actually zero stars but at least minus-one star and, most likely around a minus-three stars with a wind-chill of 50 stars below zero!!!
Obviously, I am NOT a happy camper!!!
I'm sorry for the confusion
I'm sorry for the confusion. Unfortunately, as of July 15, all accounts that didn't upgrade to a Lycos Mail Plus plan were deleted.
We provided a month as a grace period to activate and recover all emails. It is impossible for us to retrieve any data in those accounts.
We're sorry for the inconvenience. If you require further assistance, let us know, and we'll be glad to help.
If you need to get in contact with Lycos Inc. Please open a support ticket.
DO NOT USE LYCOS!
DO NOT USE LYCOS!! THEY DELETED EVERY BIT OF EMAIL IVE HAD BECAUSE I TOOK TOO LONG TO UPGRADE. I PAID THEM MY UPGRADE FEE AND THEY DELETED 20 YEARS WORTH OF EMAILS AND DID NOT RETURN MY MONEY!!!
Broken DNS and holding domains hostage
Trying to help a client fix their site. Lycos has been extremely unresponsive and we cannot even get them to fix DNS (broken in their system for one of the domains) or send auth codes so we can be free of their system and transfer the domains away. They are more or less holding these domains hostage. Completely unacceptable and possibly illegal.
They just closed my free email account…
They just closed my free email account and deleted all my messages. I have contacted the customer service and they told me that they sent a message warning me about the account deletion, that all free email accounts were deleted and unfortunately I couldn't recover any messages even if I pay the premium service!
I had an account for more than 15 years! So I haven't noticed their warning message amongst the email spams I receive everyday and lost my account and all messages.
Really disappointed with Lycos. I will not use any of their services or recommend them ever.
Extremely bad
Extremely bad, I would give their service -1 star if I could. Also, their customer service is a lottery draw. Maybe you'll get an answer, or maybe not! If you actually get lucky, and they respond to your request, problem, questions, it usually takes them a week or two to answer. Which doesn't mean at all they will resolve your issue! In my case, they just deleted my account, without any notice, and all.my files were lost. When I contacted them about it they just told me it is deleted... No explanations, no apologies, no any kind of compensation... Really awful company, avoid it at any cost.
Lycos Who?
Used to be free, not that great, but free like other E-mail providers. Now it costs for some reason, maybe not enough pop up ads. Just use another site, hopefully you won't lose any addresses in the transfer.
I lost my email because before June…
I lost my email because before June 15th till now I've been trying to pay for the service so I wouldn't lose everything, well now its gone. The site would not take my payment. I tried with two charge cards and PayPal. PayPal and the two banks said there is nothing wrong at their end because the charge never hit their bank.I emailed the company about the problem and haven't gotten a reply yet.
Very slow and problems with security…
Very slow and problems with security certificate. It becomes of no use
Starting on May 15th
Starting on May 15th, 2018 we will no longer be able to offer free Lycos Mail addresses.
Lycos suc%+!!
Zero rating
My domain account with Lycos is 10 years old. I am loosing business because of Lycos. They do not know how to point my domain to my website. It's been 12 days with customers unable to see my website because of too many redirects. Lycos closed several service ticket by sending me a request for info on how to point my domain to my website at go-Daddys. I am having to google, write code and send them coded info back. There appears to be no oversite for support services. My advise to all, is stay away from Lycos products. Lycos will stress you out. Lycos doesn't value its customers.
Really
Really, if I could give 0 stars, I would. They don't give a f____ about their customers. Absolutely disgraceful service, many many screwups. If you want to be frustrated big time, well they will comply!
